All found on a baby name site, these are the ones that interested me -

Boys:
Buzz
Atlas
Aries
Bear
Pluto
Loki
Basil

Girls:
Echo
Lava
Saga
Phoenix
Eartha
Indigo
Lyric
Sage
Lux
Saffron
Lennon

Only ones I don't particularly like are Saga (oap holidays) and Pluto (God of the underworld)
Also wouldn't use Saffron or Bear as I think these are very popular now.
The rest I think are lovely and a refreshing change!

user1480880826 · 08/06/2019 18:48

These are mostly ridiculous. Especially lava and saga. Do people ever stop to think about what these words actually mean? It’s like calling your kid Mumps.

Hopeygoflightly · 08/06/2019 18:50

So, I know kids named:

Buzz
Bear
Basil

Girls:
Phoenix
Indigo
Sage
Lux
Saffron
Lennon - a boy though
Hendrix
Fawn
Misty

Parents are all 'arty' types, or really posh.

But think of the jokes if you named a kid Atlas? The constant, hey Atlas where's Timbucktoo... and poor Basil would be barked at Sybil style, no?

Lunde · 08/06/2019 18:55

Saga is a really common Scandinavian name - there were 2 Sagas in DD2s class one year. There are 16,000+ Sagas in Sweden

PumpkinPie2016 · 08/06/2019 18:58

To me, the only ones vaguely usable are Basil (but makes me think of basil fawlty) and Misty/Saffron.

The others are all awful.

Atlas - that's something you look in to find out where places of the world are, not a name for a child.

RosemaryRemember · 08/06/2019 19:02

Indigo had a moment a couple of decades ago to my knowledge. I really dislike it due to associations I have.

WitheredfromtheLake · 08/06/2019 19:08

Boys' names: none.

Girls' names: Indigo, Saffron, Lilac (plus maybe Lyra instead of Lyric...)

Anarchyshake · 08/06/2019 19:14

Known of a Buzz. Two Saffrons, one was a teen friend of mine, we called her Saffy. Knew a few Indigos. A male Lennon. My friend's wife is Misty (they are American though). Atlas is pretty cool.

AhhhHereItGoes · 08/06/2019 19:16

I know a Basil he's around 32 and a really nice guy.

OneHanded · 08/06/2019 19:17

If it helps there were at least one or two saffron’s per year in my high school which was only years 9-11 as we’re three tier.. 🙈😂

OneHanded · 08/06/2019 19:18

Might steam Fawn for my own though... I’m a fellow f initial 🙈

KurriKurri · 08/06/2019 19:23

Basil wasn't the dog in the Herbs IIRC - he was Sir Basil, lady Rosemary's DH. The Dog was Dill.
The Owl was Sage.

Buzz for those of my era is after Buzz Aldrin, one of the first men on the moon and therefore as cool as all get out. His real name was Edwin Eugene though - so understandable that he went for a nickname Grin

Obnoxiousbeanie · 08/06/2019 19:25

I used to look after a little Phoenix, Phe-Phe for short. Not big on the name but she was an angel.

RedSuitcase · 08/06/2019 19:28

Sorry but almost all those names are asking for the child on question to be bullied at school and, at best, have a significant amount of rolling eyes from even the nicer of society.

POP7777777 · 08/06/2019 19:35

Bear, Loki, Phoenix and Saffron are fine.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 08/06/2019 19:38

No they're all bloody awful

I heard a mother calling for her DD "Phoenix" in a supermarket the other day and it sounded terribly pretentious and quite frankly stupid

Your child will have a job someday and they're never going to be taken seriously with names like that

whippetwoman · 08/06/2019 19:43

The trouble with Loki is that people think he was just mischievous when in Norse mythology he is actually evil and essentially kills his brother Baldur. He is not someone you would want to name a child after!

AgentCooper · 08/06/2019 19:45

The only one I like out of your boys’ names is Basil. I know a really cool Basil in his 50s and it suits him.

Of your girls’ names I actually love Lux. Saga, Echo, Misty, Fawn and Lilac are alright. But you can’t call a kid Lava, please. Lava destroys villages. The floor is lava.

Dippypippy1980 · 08/06/2019 19:49

Loki only boys name I would use

Saffron, Lennon and lux on the girls

marvellousnightforamooncup · 08/06/2019 19:50

I've known a Loki, Saffron, Indigo and a Basil. Also a Bear and an Oak.

Eartha is rhyming slang, Eartha Kitt. Lennon and Hendrix, just embarrassing try-hard cool. Buzz, NN Lightyear for ever poor kid.

GreyHare · 08/06/2019 19:50

All names that I would associate with dogs, horses and a friend has rats called several names on that list.

justonecottonpickingminute · 08/06/2019 19:54

My DD is Artemis (a name with which you could govern the country, if not the universe, was my reasoning) but 99% of the time, she is Misty. She loves it as do most people we know.

Greenandcabbagelooking · 08/06/2019 20:04

Boys:
Buzz - Not bad as a middle name or nickname
Atlas - No, don't like it
Aries - Not a big fan
Bear - Again, cute as a nickname but I can't picture a judge called Bear
Pluto - awful
Loki - great for a cat, not so great for a child
Basil - Too soon for this to come back into fashion.

Girls:
Echo - really no
Lava - even more no
Saga - no, this is a long drawn out story!
Phoenix - Not bad for a boy, although I do know a female one
Eartha - Just looks like a mis-spelling of something else
Indigo - I like this
Lyric - I don't mind this
Sage - Good middle name
Lux - Not my taste, but it's not as bad a lava
Saffron - Like this lots
Lennon - Great for a boy
Lilac - Bit too cutesy
Hendrix - Boy's name
Fawn - Like this
Misty - Like this too, I know an adult one
Story - Nope, nope and nope again

Basil, Sage, Saffron - sounds like ingredients for a recipe.
