Size 16 with a really horrible overhang/ apron belly. I have lovely bikini tops from Bravissimo but usually wear them under a tankini but it gets so hot on holidays! Would you??

Thanks so much - especially those who shared pics, you look amazing (although no big tummies on show!)

I have these pants that I wear with tankini...

I don't wish to turn this into a man/woman debate at all (too many threads go that way) - but i'm genuinely wondering - in a supportive way - how many men fret about showing their bellies when they go on holiday the way so many women do? Do as many worry so much about weather they'll show excess skin or fat or signs of their age that they wont wear perfectly normal beach wear on the beach?

Loving this thread!
Go for it OP 👍👍👍SmileSmileSmile👙👙👙

No.

NoSauce · 06/06/2019 21:34

It doesn’t matter whether you’re 20 stone or 7 stone. It’s about you feel. Whether you’re comfortable in a bikini. Some people are and some aren’t.

It’s a bit daft really us saying you’ll look fab etc and I know that’s done with good intentions, but if someone doesn’t feel fab in the inside it won’t show on the outside.

mollibu · 06/06/2019 21:34

I would and I do! And I'm bigger than you OP. I'm a size 20 and I find I just don't suit a one piece. High wasted bottoms and a well fitted bikini top- Can't go wrong.

Go for it Grin

furrybadger · 06/06/2019 21:36

Look at jessontheplussize on Instagram, she always have amazing bikinis on 😍

YeOldeTrout · 06/06/2019 21:37

Is OP even plus size nowadays? I think you've got to be at least size 20 to be truly plus size. Size 16 is quite ordinary. plenty that size wear 2 piece suits.

"but i'm genuinely wondering - in a supportive way - how many men fret about showing their bellies when they go on holiday the way so many women do?"
Actually my husband keeps going on about himself being holiday fit. He has been working out so his arms don't look skinny. So yes, men have hang ups too.

MonkeyTrap · 06/06/2019 21:38

OP do whatever makes you comfortable (and within the perimeter of the law). Grin

I’m not plus sized but find all this what can and can’t we wear tiring. Overheating to wear something more flattering is silly IMO.

ladymariner · 06/06/2019 21:38

Always wear a bikini and I'm a 16/18. I love Bravissimo, I wear proper fitted bikini bra top and higher waisted bottoms and I feel great! I'm no stick, but so what?
I think wearing a swimming costume makes you look bigger when you are big, it's like you're trying to cover up and hide. Why should you? You are what you are, be proud of yourself x

TheoriginalLEM · 06/06/2019 21:39

Size 20 here - i would!! Ive got great tits!!

JeSuisPrest · 06/06/2019 21:40

OP everyone is so preoccupied worrying about what they look like from a size 6 to a size 30 with their cellulite, mum tums, varicose veins, stretch marks, hairy bits and big boobs/saggy boobs/no boobs that no one is giving a second thought to you. Go for it.

Sussana30 · 06/06/2019 21:41

Only if you feel comfortable.
I'm a size 8-10 and don't have the confidence to wear a bikini these days.
But if you want to, go for it. You'll look gorgeous if you're feeling comfortable and happy. Enjoy the beach!

PlaymobilPirate · 06/06/2019 21:41

Ha! 34hh here LEM so they're a possible distraction from my belly!

What a lovely lot you all are Grin
Really refreshing to read these replies. And you ladies in your bikinis look gorgeous!
I agree with the majority, wear what you bloody well please and no one will care/notice and if they do they can fuck off!

BigRedLondonBus · 06/06/2019 21:42

Yes size 16 is definitely “plus size”

mindproject · 06/06/2019 21:43

Why the heck not?

I will always wear bikinis no matter what size I become. Swimsuits make everyone look older, frumpier, fatter and more self-conscious. If you are over 40 nobody is looking at you anyway; great news.

PlaymobilPirate · 06/06/2019 21:44

I'm 41!

OP posts:
NotMyCircusMonkeys · 06/06/2019 21:46

I'm a size 6-8 and I'm far more worried about how I look when I'm by the pool (flat chested, not toned, pasty white) than anyone else! I think most people are the same, you really don't pay attention to anyone else. Where what you are comfortable in Smile

zonkin · 06/06/2019 21:46

I always wear bikinis after years of hiding under hideous and unflattering tankinis.

Watching others full costume draws attention, tankini is worse. It always separates and draws attention to tummy area.

Wouldn't put my apron out tho, always choose high waisted bikini bottoms to tuck it in

NotMyCircusMonkeys · 06/06/2019 21:47

*wear not where, obviously!

TapasForTwo · 06/06/2019 21:48

As others have said, the reality when you are there is that no one at all gives you a second glance, whatever your age, sex, size or shape. Really they don’t

I agree wholeheartedly. TBH people in swimsuits stand out in the traditional Mediterranean beach destinations. Nearly everyone wears a bikini. And please don’t even think of getting one of those costumes with inbuilt skirts. They scream out “I am fat and don’t want to draw attention to myself”, and then do the complete opposite.

The only thing which would disguise your shape or size would be to go out wearing an actual proper triangular tent. You are going to look like a size 14/16/18/20/22 or what ever size you are weather you wear a one piece, a two piece, a '50s' swimsuit, 3 tiny triangles or a massive sheer 'cover up' over a tankini with a skirt down to your knees and a sarong round your ribs. Wear what you like. Women creeping about trying to hide their body on the beach draw much more attention to themselves and their body than the care-free wobbly ones going about life in a nice bikini. You are your size. You'll look your size. Accept it.

Never a truer word Laiste

mindproject · 06/06/2019 21:48

41 - great. You could probably stroll down to the beach in a fig leaf and nobody would even look up from their phone.

Butteredghost · 06/06/2019 21:51

I'm a size 16 and I wear a bikini. Agree that the super high waisted bikinis that have been in fashion the last few years is look great.

Although I recently I bought a one piece for lap swimming and I have to say it's pretty comfortable - the way it tucks everything in and no waist band to rub on the belly.
