Size 16 with a really horrible overhang/ apron belly. I have lovely bikini tops from Bravissimo but usually wear them under a tankini but it gets so hot on holidays! Would you??

Phew! The picture has been withdrawn and the vitriol deleted. Siameasy I agree that it is easier to carry more weight on an hourglass frame. Personally, it’s my legs that I don’t like and any swimwear short of a wetsuit is going to show those. I think I’d get gawped at a lot more of I climbed into the pool at my gym in a full wetsuit every week or laid out on a sunlounger on holiday wearing one than in my bikini.

I spent way too many summers sweltering in cardigans and tights, constantly batting off concerned questions about how hot I must be. I know that confidence helps people to carry off a lot of different types of clothes and that the ability to not give a fuck what other people think is invaluable and will enrich your life more than anything else.

WindsweptEgret · 08/06/2019 12:34

That said, there no way I would wear budgie smugglers on the beach, or anywhere else.
Yep, if I was a man I doubt I'd be in speedos either. I'd be in swim shorts like my 13 year old.

PlaymobilPirate · 08/06/2019 12:42

I'm ignoring the negative stuff as the majority of you have been uplifting and positive. I'm ordering these. I have a plain black bikini top already (usually worn under a tankini) and plain black big pants.

Just buy high waist bottoms

TheRedBarrows · 08/06/2019 12:58

OP: I am very pleased you are going for it.

The pieces you have linked look great. Have a fantastic hol.

blibblibs · 08/06/2019 14:18

CalmdownJanet please don't let this thread put you off wearing your red swimming costume, I bet you look fab. And no one will think anything about you wearing a one piece. I've never ever worn a bikini and never will but no one stares because of it, I've never had negative comments and I don't think I stand out anymore than anyone wearing a bikini.
Wear what makes you happy and confident. I'm sure that's what was intended from this thread - - so long as you do as the bikini wearers do! - -

Thank you for this thread. 3 C sections and an awful overhang and a size 16, this has made me feel so much better about hanging on to my bikini's.

feelingverylazytoday · 08/06/2019 17:51

Blokes really don't have to worry about this shit, do they
I don't know, I think quite a few men hate having 'moobs' and are quite prefer to wear a top.

whyohwhyowhydididoit · 08/06/2019 18:01

Wear what you like. I actually think a structured bikini looks more flattering on larger women than an all in one and it’s not as if by encasing our bodies in Lycra we trick people into thinking we are thinner.

CalmdownJanet · 08/06/2019 20:36

blibbblibs thank you, I think I will. It's either wear a swimsuit I feel nice in but stand out (at least I am standing out when j feel good) or wear a bikini I feel shite in and blend in, decisions decisions

blibblibs · 08/06/2019 21:03

Definitely stand out and feel fabulous, not that you'll stand out cause you've got a swimming costume on but because your doing what makes you feel good. Which is always better than doing what randoms on the Internet think you should.

Ninkaninus · 08/06/2019 21:14

There’s nothing wrong with standing out! If you prefer a swimsuit then wear that, with pride. Like I said to the OP, don’t be afraid to claim your space in the world - stand tall. You’ve got just as much right as anyone else to be there and enjoy life and feel good in the body you have. 🌷

KinderSurpriseBump · 09/06/2019 09:51

If you feel comfortable and confident go for it.

sonjadog · 09/06/2019 11:53

I have a question about the bog pants with hold in stuff at the front. I have seen them in shops but never tried. What happens to the fat? Does in get sucked in or does it end up escaping out the edge of the pants? Asking because I can do a pretty impressive muffin top, which I would prefer to avoid.

BringMeTea · 09/06/2019 14:11

I think the trick is to size up with the big pants that have control properties. As you say having them so 'strong' they dig is no good to anyone. I have some Land's End ones that are good. Not too 'controlly' but smoothing. Actually I just went with my usual size with them as reviews said they were generous.

sonjadog · 09/06/2019 14:16

Thanks! I'll check Land's End out.

PlaymobilPirate · 09/06/2019 18:23

Thanks, I've ordered s couple of sizes in the bottoms and will return what doesn't fit. I'm on a mission so will order from other places too and send back!

PlaymobilPirate · 13/06/2019 13:48

They arrived! Not tried the top on yet but popped the bottoms on over my tights. They fit and contain my tyre. Need to decide whether I'm confident enough to wear them!

whothedaddy · 13/06/2019 14:03

I always get really worked up before a beach holiday. I do own a sports bikini but I only really wear it under my wetsuit.

I prefer a 1 piece as they are more flattering and you can actually swim in them...important for me who likes to swim long distances (5k)

I'm only a size 10 but I don't like parading around in what looks like underwear. I am fully aware I'm in fairly good shape and I'm not the 'biggest' one on the beach, but it isn't about other people it's about what I am comfortable in. Anything that needs adjusting I just don't have time for

PlaymobilPirate · 13/06/2019 19:26

I got wound up last year then ended up hot and bothered in a giant tankini!

PlaymobilPirate · 15/07/2019 15:29

Just thought I'd update... I'm on holiday now - wearing a bikini and nobody dropped down dead!

The pool is full of women in every shape and size. Hardly and swimsuits. Nobody gives a shit. I'm so happy, thanks everyone! X

I wear with high waisted bikini bottoms to keep my worst flabby bits contained, then just go for it. I get no more or less stares than women in tankinis, thongs, swim shorts and rash vests etc....

Orangesox · 15/07/2019 15:45

I’m all about the underwired bra sized bikini tops and high waisted bottoms and I’m a size 22. Not least of all because said bikinis tops become the default day wear bras for the entirety of my holidays, and I don’t get any rubbing issues when warm and sticky. I honestly couldn’t care less what other people think because that’s their own issue to deal with!

Nobody, I repeat nobody wants to deal with me being hot and flustered covering myself up in an ill fitting unsupportive one-piece with matching tent like cover up! Life is too short for that shit!

Chochito · 15/07/2019 15:49

A bikini is sooooooooooo much more comfortable and practical than a one piece! Wear one if you want, OP.
