Size 16 with a really horrible overhang/ apron belly. I have lovely bikini tops from Bravissimo but usually wear them under a tankini but it gets so hot on holidays! Would you??

Ive asked for my photo to be removed also now after recent posts about the blogger who looks absolutely fantastic in her bikini .. But OP and anyone else ....absolutely, wear a bikini. Celebrate life and your body as much as you can , however it mat 'conform' to fashion standards or not. I still struggle to do this but as I have got older, It gets easier ..

PurpleFlower1983 · 08/06/2019 07:53

I wouldn’t but that’s my own hang ups. I’m in a size 16 wobbly post baby body at the moment! But if you have the confidence then go for it, no one will bat and eyelid!

WindsweptEgret · 08/06/2019 08:02

I don't get the concept. People would feel embarrassed and exposed to be out in public in their underwear but lots of bikinis are the same or smaller than underwear. This is how I feel. I am much more comfortable in my Speedo legsuit than in a bikini. No fear of losing my top in the surf either!

YesQueen · 08/06/2019 08:07

@CaptainBrickbeard she is a genuinely lovely person too Smile and let me choose a beautiful dress which she gifted to me

CaptainBrickbeard · 08/06/2019 08:12

I know YesQueen which is why I’m mortified to have put her picture up to receive that kind of vile commentary. All I would say if she did happen to see it is that the poster who made those comments is a name I recognise from any thread about weight; she clearly has a lot of issues about herself and absolutely cannot bear for anyone to be happy with their own body. Her comments reveal more about herself than they do about any of the people she criticises. Friday night was a bad time to post it though as I think it will take MN a little time to respond.

Laska what a shame it’s made you feel you need to take your picture down as well; it was a really positive and uplifting thread before. Sorry to have unwittingly triggered such a nasty change.

YesQueen · 08/06/2019 08:14

Definitely. She just looks like a perfectly normal woman to me

SmudgeChilli · 08/06/2019 08:37

Absolutely. Look at Bryony Gordon, she always looks great and happy

feelingverylazytoday · 08/06/2019 08:57

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in (long as it's legal, lol).

Regarding Kennehora's comments on the plus size model, I saw them more as critisising the cut and design of the bikinis and how they fit her body (and the tattoos, not really relevant to size), rather than critisizing the model herself.

Snog · 08/06/2019 08:57

To those who have posted bikini pics
YOU LOOK GREAT!!

Ivestoppedreadingthenews · 08/06/2019 09:10

I’m a size 10 but haven’t worn a bikini since I had kids. I don’t think anyone wants to see my wrinkled tummy (myself most of all!).

YesQueen · 08/06/2019 09:13

The thing is, FFFB is a model/blogger so she has to wear whatever she is gifted/advertising/modelling etc etc. So it might not always be what she would choose specifically as what looks best on her
Lord knows I've had to model stuff and been "Oh. My. God" Grin

Strugglingmum73 · 08/06/2019 09:17

If you have the confidence, do it!

feelingverylazytoday · 08/06/2019 09:48

YesQueen that's fine, but if you are modelling on instagram/blogging I think you have to be open to the fact that not everyone will think you or the clothes look great. And some people will feel free to say so.

Laska2Meryls · 08/06/2019 09:59

CaptainBrickbeard absolutely not your fault..This has been a positive thread and you posted a lovely positive post didnt change that at all.. She really looks fabulous in that thread but some people will be negative whatever..

I am not ashamed of my photo, and absolutely do believe that all shapes and sizes can look fab on the beach and elsewhere what ever they are wearing if they are confident and feel accepted . And to those who delight in being shamers and putting other people down because of their bodies ..

But its probably best my photo goes anyway (I think some of my work colleagues may be on MN) when MN can get round to it ..I hope my grandma in a bikini photo inspired some other posters to do wear what they like also

Wear it, love it and be you.. xx

ememem84 · 08/06/2019 10:06

I’m a size 10/12 with big boobs. I had ds in 2017. Last summer I was wary of my bikini. But wore it anyway. We live 20 minutes away from the beach in any direction pretty much.

Since having ds I even become more body confident. I wanted to run about chasing him on the beach. I wanted to splash in the sea with him.

I don’t give a flying fuck what other people think of me in my bikini. I wear it. I feel good.

The only thing I’d never wear is a thong bikini. Not for me. No one wants to see my bum cheeks hanging out.

Dc2 is due end of July. Once she’s here we’ll be on the beach as usual for swims splashes and sandcastles. Bikini on. ALways supportive (as above big boobs). Never triangle bikinis. NEver string tie pants (have lost a pair in the surf before...)

But who cares. I’ve used my body to have kids. I’m proud of it, of me, of them. Show it off if you feel comfortable

laska looking gorg!!!

Laska2Meryls · 08/06/2019 10:09

Hi Em !! Smile (waves!!) (I must pop back to the Frugaleers.. )

Mominatrix · 08/06/2019 10:10

If you feel comfortable in a bikini, wear one.

UnderPompeii · 08/06/2019 10:24

I would hazard a guess that Kennehora has her own huge body issues which causes her to scrutinise other women's bodies and be massively critical of them. To post those criticisms in such detail is just plain nasty and unforgivable in my opinion.
OP you go for it, luckily the negativity shown by Kennehora is in the minority of opinions on this thread,

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 08/06/2019 10:34

I went to Barcelona with a one-piece and felt a right twat on the beach, as I was the only one! I ended up rolling it down and going topless!

Definitely buying a bikini this year, at size 12.

CalmdownJanet · 08/06/2019 10:43

I have lost weight recently, feeling good about myself and I bought a beautiful swim costume. I usually wear black, I bought red, a big out of comfort zone but I was feeling good and now after this thread I feel like I'm going to stand out like a sore fucking thumb!! I just don't feel right in a bikini, I did feel good in the costume, now I'm back to being conscious again, fuck it!

Burlea · 08/06/2019 10:49

I'm on holiday at the moment. I'm 59 size 18 with a tummy. Yes I am wearing a bikini no one is even looking at me. I have a sarong to walk to the bar. There all shapes and sizes here. Go on OP wear your bikini with pride.

fedup2017 · 08/06/2019 10:49

I've worn a bikini at a size 8 to 14.
Wear what makes you happy be that a bikini a swimsuit or a kaftan. But remember that what other people on mumsnet or on the beach really doesn't matter. Life is too short !!

to wear a bikini when plus size?
BasilFaulty · 08/06/2019 11:22

Go for it! Blokes really don't have to worry about this shit do they Sad

Siameasy · 08/06/2019 11:27

Can I just moan?

These larger Insta body positive women (like Body Positive Panda) almost always have a really nice shape. The one posted about earlier has a shape. It must be genetics because if I was their weight I would look like a pregnant spider as I have no shape.

I would tolerate being heavier if I had that nice hour glass shape which is, for whatever reason, the favoured shape. You don’t see as many of them looking like a Terrys chocolate orange on two toothpicks ie Apple shape.

I’m slim but hate bikinis as I’m annoyed about being shapeless

RottnestFerry · 08/06/2019 11:36

Go for it! Blokes really don't have to worry about this shit do they

That's because we don't care what other men think about what we look like.

That said, there no way I would wear budgie smugglers on the beach, or anywhere else.
