To ask how often you empty your kitchen bin?

Ours is emptied daily and is usually full to the brim each time. DH says we clearly have way too much rubbish and shouldn’t be emptying it so often. Confused

How frequently do you empty your bins?

Every day. It’s not very big though.

Rememberallball · 31/05/2019 11:51

When it’s full - which is usually once a week and generally the day before dustmen come. There are only 2 of us at the moment. We also have recycling for glass, plastic, cardboard, foil, and paper.

ToffeePennie · 31/05/2019 11:51

When it’s full. Maybe 2x a day. But we have a baby in nappies and it’s only a small bin.

BollocksToBrexit · 31/05/2019 11:51

Usually ever other day and it's only a small size pedal bin.

Astrid0208 · 31/05/2019 11:52

Every 2 or 3 days, same for the recycling bin. They're big bins though, a full black bin bag size.

TwelveThirtyTwo · 31/05/2019 11:52

Once a week often longer.

JeezOhGeeWhizz · 31/05/2019 11:52

Twice a week.

Glittertwins · 31/05/2019 11:52

Depends on how big your bin is!
Ours is a 35l Brabantia so reasonably big for 4 of us and it gets full after a 1.5 weeks or so. But we recycle a lot and we have another separate bin just for food waste.

Same here

lucymegan · 31/05/2019 11:54

Once a day or sometimes every other. We're a family of 7

CobaltRose96 · 31/05/2019 11:55

Every day, but it’s not very big.

Megan2018 · 31/05/2019 11:55

When it is full? Or if it has something that is likely to smell.
Surely part of this is decided by the size of the bin and your family!

Ours is integrated into a cupboard and is split into 2 sections - 50% mixed recycling, 50% general waste. The recycling gets emptied 3 times a week on average, the general waste I'd say averages twice.

Chasingsquirrels · 31/05/2019 11:56

Weekly, on collection day.
It's a largish swing bin lined with a black bin bag and it only really has non-recyclable plastics in, then on bin day I add the dog poo bags which are stored outside and empty the upstairs bins which again only have dry non-recyclables.
We don't have a general waste bin for collection, they just take the black bin bags, so there isn't really anywhere to empty it into.

All recyclables, and kitchen and garden waste and dealt with separately.
The dry recyclables (paper, card, tins, glass, plastics) go in a large plastic crate which is emptied about twice a week into the blue wheelie bin.
Kitchen & green waste (scraps, peelings, egg shells, bones etc) go into a large icecream tub and get emptied every day or so into the green wheelie bin.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 31/05/2019 11:57

Normal rubbish every week when the dustmen come.
Recycling about 3 times a week.

Fishywife · 31/05/2019 11:58

Every day? How big is it? Is food waste and recycling separate?
Ours is 30 litres, and gets put outside on bin day, which is once a fortnight. However, we do have separate recycling and food waste. The non-paper recycling (same size bin) fills up a lot faster, and gets emptied once a week. Food waste is two tiny bins (one for garden compost, one for collection) and they go out every week, sometimes more often.

Officially the most boring post ever... Grin

Oysterbabe · 31/05/2019 11:58

Once a weekish. It's only non-recyclable stuff that goes in it as we have separate sections in a drawer under the sink for recycling. So it's not loads and mostly plastic. How are you filling yours every day?

Bluebluered · 31/05/2019 12:00

Every 2/3 days. Recycling every 3/4 days. It depends on how big your bin (not bum, as autocorrect wants me to write) is though isn’t it, and how many people live in your house? Most of our rubbish is recycling rather than normal rubbish.

I don’t recycle food as it smells, makes me feel sick and have had too many maggot problems in the past whilst pregnant and I refuse to put myself through it now.

BiddyPop · 31/05/2019 12:01

Ours is a 30l black bin, a 13l brown bin, a recycling bag for life, and a black bucket (about 13l also) for the compost heap in the garden.

The Recycling is generally at least once, if not twice, a day.

The black bin is roughly every 2-4 days, occasionally more frequent.

The brown bin is roughly every 3-6 days.

The compost bin is roughly twice a week, sometimes less.

I will always empty the bins if I am putting out the relevant bin for collection the following morning.

The bins also get emptied once a fortnight, whether needed or not, when the cleaners are in.

shinyblackdog · 31/05/2019 12:03

We have a 12l (small) pedal bin for two adults and a toddler and we empty it once a week max. Most of our waste is recyclable and goes directly in the recycling wheelie bin, which probably needs emptying every other week.

SrSteveOskowski · 31/05/2019 12:04

Twice a week. It's usually not full, but I find any longer than that and it starts to smell. We have a separate recycling bin though. They're collected every other week, and a compost/organic bin which can go out every week.

I'm in Ireland though where it's a private service. The company we're with charge around €130 for 6 months.

Whenever it gets full, which is approx twice a week. It's a 20L one.

WhatHaveIFound · 31/05/2019 12:05

When it's full so normally every 3or4 days. We only have a small bin in the under sink cupboard but we don't have a lot of general rubbish. In fact i only put our wheelie bin out every 4 weeks (collection is every two weeks).

I have separate bins for recycling in the utility. That's collected every two weeks too but i can't quite stretch it to a month.

BroomstickOfLove · 31/05/2019 12:06

Every 5 days or so. It's a big, 52 litre bin, so it holds a lot, but my council is shit at recycling, so food waste and most plastic goes in the bin Sad.

DerelictWreck · 31/05/2019 12:07

Once a week. Take the bag out, add rubbish from bedrooms/bathroom/living rooms bins in, throw away.
