To ask how often you empty your kitchen bin?

Ours is emptied daily and is usually full to the brim each time. DH says we clearly have way too much rubbish and shouldn’t be emptying it so often. Confused

How frequently do you empty your bins?

Every 2/3 days . Its just myself and my daughter..barely any rubbish some days, so emptying it every day would be pointless

LouiseMiltonSpatula · 02/06/2019 12:21

Every 2 or 3 days, for a medium sized bin.

Are you recycling everything you can, including food waste etc?

Maneandfeathers · 02/06/2019 12:35

Mines full every 1-2days.

We recycle a lot though and I can’t leave food in it for long or the dog will tip it Hmm

Lovesgood · 02/06/2019 12:37

When its full. So pretty much every day.

We don't have a 'kitchen bin'. We have a recycling bin in the hall and a food waste bin in the garden. Anything that doesn't go in either of those goes straight into the wheely bin.

Bluesheep8 · 02/06/2019 13:47

Twice a week or thereabouts. We have a waste disposal though, so there is no food waste and recycle glass separately. So it's just packaging and tins.

whitehalleve · 02/06/2019 13:49

Once a day

Pinkprincess1978 · 02/06/2019 14:09

When it's full which is probably once or twice a week. Often it's only full because we have cleaned at the pets cage. If we didn't have them to clean out it would be once a week only. It is s big bin (50L).

thefairyfellersmasterstroke · 02/06/2019 15:07

I've just realised we have 5 indoor bins: paper/card; tin/glass; compostable waste; other food waste; general bin.

As so much gets recycled, the 30L general bin usually only contains non-recyclable plastic (the existence of which really irritates me) or the sweepings from the floor. It rarely smells and takes about ten days or so to fill up when it then goes in the wheelie bin. I only put my wheelie bin out for collection when it's full, which can take a couple of months.

Food bin gets emptied more frequently as it fills up quickly with tea bags and uneaten cat food (fussy buggers) and the flies love it in the summer.

I've also just started a "carrier bag" bag since discovering things like cereal box inner bags get recycled with carriers down at the supermarket. I'm kicking mysef at all these cereal bags I've sent to landfill over the years when they could have gone to Tesco!

Also have a small carrier bag for batteries, lightbulbs, broken earphones, chargers, cable, and other small electricals that get taken to the recycling centre.

Oh, and a cardboard box for cartons,. which also goes to the recycling centre when full.

So that's 8 separate waste containers - no wonder the general bin takes forever to fill up. 20 years ago it all went into just the one bin, emptied daily. Our poor planet. Sad

Twice a week, but the 2nd is never a full bag, just getting it out for the collection.
