To ask how often you empty your kitchen bin?

Ours is emptied daily and is usually full to the brim each time. DH says we clearly have way too much rubbish and shouldn’t be emptying it so often. Confused

How frequently do you empty your bins?

once a week unless there is a special reason why it is full or smelly earlier

I recycle glass/paper/plastic/tins separately and compost food waste

RedSheep73 · 31/05/2019 18:30

When it's full, usually once a week or less if I can get away with it.

PickAChew · 31/05/2019 18:33

Pretty much daily. We don't have food waste collections so chose a bin appropriately sized for not having it sitting around the house, stinking, for days on end.

tor8181 · 31/05/2019 18:36

never

we dont have a kitchen bin as kitchen is too small for one(funny shaped house as living room is massive),we collect in a carrier bag then put in the right bins straight away

bumblingbovine49 · 31/05/2019 18:36

About how once a week but we empty the recycling indoor bin which is smaller about every 2-3 days and the small food bin about once a week as well. There are 3 of us in the household

Our kitchen bin does not smell at all as all the food waste goes into to the food caddy

Shelbybear · 31/05/2019 18:37

Ours is massive, I got the biggest one we cld for in a cupboard but it still needs done every 1-2 days and there's only 2 adults and a kid and we recycle plastic, cardboard and glass. I don't know how it gets so full but my little girl still in nappies so hopefully it can go down to once every 2 days once she is out of them.

Bubbilish · 31/05/2019 19:26

Don't have a kitchen bin. Everything goes out to wheelie bin daily

AliTheMinx · 31/05/2019 19:29

Once a week. It's a full size Brabantia and there are 3 of us. We recycle cardboard/plastic straight away, but the actual bin only needs emptying once a week.

LoadsaBlusher · 31/05/2019 19:32

Daily
We are a family of 5
Also it’s just part of my evening tidying routine , so kitchen fully tidied / wiped down / everything away / empty bin and take outside and have a nice fresh empty binbag for the next day

Keeps everything fresh

viccat · 31/05/2019 19:34

I only have a small 5 litre one (I live alone). It's full after 3 days usually. My council is quite good with recycling though and I've been making an effort to further cut down on waste (plastic mainly).

Mummyshark2019 · 31/05/2019 19:35

Daily.

Isleepinahedgefund · 31/05/2019 19:38

Normal size kitchen bin, once a week. I seem to do the recycling every five mins though!

morallybankruptme · 31/05/2019 19:52

When it's full ( every second to third day) or smelly ( dds nappies are 😬)

Whiskyagogo · 31/05/2019 20:06

3/4 times a fortnight. No nappies and we use a food caddy. I recycle as much as possible. Still think it's too much.

lboogy · 31/05/2019 20:10

Couple of times a week. It's a small under the sink bin. I don't understand people who produce so much waste like my ndn. Their black bin is full 3 days after bin collection which is only twice a week. Our black bin takes at least 6 weeks to get full. Recycling we fill up every two weeks

TantricTwist · 31/05/2019 20:12

I also have a 30l brabantia bin. I recycle practically anything that's not a food stuff so crisp packets the lot.

ScreamScreamIceCream · 31/05/2019 20:18

General rubbish once a week but it's a small bin.

Nappies daily.

I also have food waste collection and pretty decent recycling. I try not to buy stuff that cannot be recycled.

Ohyesiam · 31/05/2019 20:20

At the end of the week we have one black bag of rubbish, a 5L thing of food waste(about half full) lots of compost ( that we keep) , big bag of cardboard recycling, carrier bag of paper, one recycling bin full of plastic, glass, foil, tins.
Two adults, two teens.

Far2go46 · 31/05/2019 20:27

When it's full? Christ

FinallyHere · 01/06/2019 11:48

Your DH has rules about how often a bin should be emptied .. other than when it is full?

Okaaaay

PompeyBez · 01/06/2019 11:54

Once a week before bin day for general waste. It's never full but usually a bit whiffy by that stage. I want to start composting to reduce this.
Recycling just goes out as and when, I don't have a bin for that, it just gets piled up until it annoys me.
The extra recycling we do (tetrapac, yoghurt pots etc) that wont go in our recycling gets taken in the car to the supermarket recycling about once a fortnight

nakedscientist · 01/06/2019 12:06

My wife: Empty bin?? Why do you need to empty it? There's always room in it, even if I have to stamp it down, ripping the bin liner in the process.
It always fits.

Me: EVERY. PISSING. DAY!!!!!!!

How wonderful! What a bastard she is.

PregnantSea · 01/06/2019 12:13

Every day. I live in a very hot and humid climate so if it's left anymore than a day it stinks. It's never full though and it's quite small.

Ronsters · 01/06/2019 12:17

When it's full, its a medium sized bin and I empty it about twice a week. If it smells I will empty it before its full.

jackparlabane · 01/06/2019 12:29

Food waste caddy - 2-3 times a week
Recycling bin and black bin are both about 50L, recycling 1-3 times a week, black bin usually just on bin day. It's only plastic film and hoover contents, mostly - used to have a few baby wipes and nappies but mostly used cloth.
