To ask how often you empty your kitchen bin?

Ours is emptied daily and is usually full to the brim each time. DH says we clearly have way too much rubbish and shouldn’t be emptying it so often. Confused

How frequently do you empty your bins?

It’s a 30L one and we usually have to empty it every 2-3 days. Family of six.

We recycle a lot.

Sexnotgender · 31/05/2019 13:13

Once or twice a week.

It’s 30L.

We recycle as much as possible. Grow our own vegetables and use reusable nappies and wipes so our actual rubbish is relatively minimal.

RavenLG · 31/05/2019 13:16

Once a week but it's rarely full ( just put it out the evening before bin day). We recycle and compost food waste and pet bedding. Not much goes into the actual bin.

RavenclawWriter · 31/05/2019 13:17

About once a month! But all that's in there is the unrecycleable plastic wrapping so much stuff still comes in. We also have a food bin which gets emptied every couple of days and recycling goes out straight away. I bet you could recycle loads more than you are to get that amount down.

WindsweptEgret · 31/05/2019 13:18

Every two weeks when the rubbish is collected, I think it's about 12L and there are two of us. It's really only soft plastics that go into the normal rubbish, everything else is recycled or composted.

RandomUsernameHere · 31/05/2019 13:20

About 2 to 3 times per week. I recycle all cardboard, paper, plastic bottles and tins.

Sparrowlegs248 · 31/05/2019 13:22

2 or 3 times a week. It is small, there's me and 2 dc. I don't put nappies in it, I put them straight in the outside bin.

ImMeantToBeWorking · 31/05/2019 13:24

I have a big enough one and it needs emptying roughly once a week. There is only me mon to fri and himself at the weekends.

Aprillygirl · 31/05/2019 13:24

It depends how long it takes to get full, which depends on how much rubbish we put in it. Confused

Lumene · 31/05/2019 13:25

How big is your bin? We have a 55L one, empty 2-3 times a week.

0DimSumMum0 · 31/05/2019 13:28

A few times a day. I can't bare to smell it especially in the summer if I don't. It's not very big though.

WheresAllTheGoodInTheWorld · 31/05/2019 13:40

Daily. Even if half full as can't stand the smell of food in there from dinner or peelings. Being in a flat there's no compost or anything so have no choice but to put in the general waste.

Damntheman · 31/05/2019 13:42

We have a family of four. Our bin isn't that big, bigger than a bathroom bin but still smaller than most UK kitchen bins. It gets full maybe once every week, or six days? We recycle all cardboard/paper, plastic, glass and metal though (this is really easy to do here in norway, none of the selective sorting faff you poor UKanians have to do) and food waste goes to the compost so there's not a lot left to go in the kitchen bin.

Emilydickensonsdogs · 31/05/2019 13:44

Usually once a day, sometimes twice. Small bin though. Can’t imagine leaving a bin for a week if it contained food stuff. Must stink.

SpeckleDust · 31/05/2019 13:45

Seeing (and smelling!) the number of disposable nappies in the general waste bin was one of the major factors in deciding to use washables. When our bin was only getting collected fortnightly, it became really obvious that they were a major contributor to the amount of pointless landfill waste we were contributing to.

LittleDoritt · 31/05/2019 13:47

We have about one bin bag a week. Our binmen only come once every three weeks though so we have to be tediously aware of our rubbish.

LakieLady · 31/05/2019 13:50

We have a small kitchen bin (the old Tesco carrier bag size) and it gets emptied approx every 5 days. It would probably be a bit less if our stupid council supplied a food waste bin that I can actually open, although between the dog and the compost, we don't waste much.

We recycle a lot though. Our recycling is collected fortnightly and the wheelie bin is usually at least 2/3 full.

Just 2 of us in the house.

BlackPrism · 31/05/2019 13:56

Once a week...

Recycling is similar, maybe twice.

Pretty big bin and only two of us. Though a LOT of visitors leave recyclables here.

Diamondbean · 31/05/2019 13:57

Family of 5, our kitchen bin is emptied once a week. It’s mainly plastics and the occasional bit of food waste but we don’t have much.
We don’t have a separate food waste collection.
We recycle everything that we can which helps keeps this down.

We have a second bin in the living room which is mainly for nappies and food packaging, this is emptied every couple of days.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 31/05/2019 13:58

We have a bucket in the cupboard for our kitchen bin. It needs emptying every other day. Family of 4.

SlimGin · 31/05/2019 14:02

Usually once a week sometimes more. The big outside bin gets collected fortnightly and there's never more than 3 black bin bags in it. DD's pooey nappies go straight in the outside bin and we don't have much food waste. I recycle what I can so all that really goes in it is wet nappies, non recyclable plastic, and scrapings. Should receive our food bin soon, too.

Duskyy · 31/05/2019 14:07

When it's full, probably once or twice a week. Although DP will claim there's plenty of room and push it all down first Hmm. The area we live only allows 3 bags to be collected every fortnight, so I can und why he's like that.

mynamechangemyrules · 31/05/2019 14:13

Teeny tiny mini bin emptied at least twice a day- live in the tropics so we'd be overrun with 'visitors' otherwise!

Hotterthanahotthing · 31/05/2019 14:22

We usually last out between collections so 2 weeks. That fills half a black bin liner.Recycling is emptied every 3 days or so.

AnnabelleBronstein · 31/05/2019 15:07

Once a week and it’s mostly only half full. We recycle everything possible and no food waste goes in.
