To ask how often you empty your kitchen bin?

Ours is emptied daily and is usually full to the brim each time. DH says we clearly have way too much rubbish and shouldn’t be emptying it so often. Confused

How frequently do you empty your bins?

Twice a week usually, we have a 35l Brantia one and there's 6 of us.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 31/05/2019 12:29

We don’t have a kitchen bin. I got fed up of it smelling and needing cleaning all the time. We throw straight into the green wheelie bin in the garage.

babysharkah · 31/05/2019 12:34

Every other day but our bin is too small. This it is 30l.

Buggeritimgettingup · 31/05/2019 12:35

8of us here one on nappies (straight outside) we have three bins (general, paper and plastic/cans) they get emptied (by kids) 2/3 times a week different days

my2bundles · 31/05/2019 12:37

Once, sometimes twice a week.

Teddybear45 · 31/05/2019 12:39

When it’s full - approximately once a week. We recycle, reuse, and there’s very little food waste as I like to use most of the skins — but even then I think there’s a lot.

clarrylove · 31/05/2019 12:39

Once a fortnight, just put it out for bin day. But, food waste in a separate caddy and we recycle loads so it is only empty wrappers really, nothing smelly.

Seniorschoolmum · 31/05/2019 12:39

Every day, but it’s tiny. There are only two of us.

I recycle absolutely everything I can so have got main wheelie bin collection down to once every 6 or 7 weeks.

hummusscot · 31/05/2019 12:40

We have a 16l bin and it gets emptied twice a week roughly. 2 adults 3 cats. Most of the rubbish is cat food pouches. We are making a conscious effort to reduce our waste though and we also compost and recycle (they each probably go out 1-2 times a week depending).

Bubblysqueak · 31/05/2019 12:45

Once maybe twice a week, the recycling bin 2 or 3 times a day but it's small.

Bluerussian · 31/05/2019 12:45

Once or twice a day depending on how much in it.

PantsyMcPantsface · 31/05/2019 12:47

At least once a day for both the normal bin and recycling one - often more than once - but they're tiny carrier-bag sized ones.

Those doing the MN faux-shock and horror routine need to bear in mind not all councils allow the same stuff in each kind of bins... our recycling takes everything apart from glass whereas some areas want you to separate out sub-types, and we don't have food waste as a collection system around here.

EntirelyAnonymised · 31/05/2019 12:47

It depends.

Sometimes when it is full. Other times sooner because there’s something that might smell in there or because the weather is exceptionally warm. Generally a max of every other day as we have a cat who eats wet food so the sachets do get smelly if left longer. We have the big 60l Brabantia tough bin.

EntirelyAnonymised · 31/05/2019 12:48

Touch

EntirelyAnonymised · 31/05/2019 12:49

We have an ‘everything’ recycling bin (as per the council but no food waste recycling in our area.

bloodywhitecat · 31/05/2019 12:49

Every couple of weeks, it's a 30L bin and it is only used for stuff that isn't recyclable or compostable. We usually only empty it the week the black bins are collected. There are just two of us though but things might change once we start fostering next week.

TeeBee · 31/05/2019 12:53

Probably once a week. We recycle a lot of our rubbish.

4strings · 31/05/2019 12:57

45l bin, once every 4/5 days, family of 4. We recycle/compost everything we can, and have three-weekly general waste collections. It seldom smells.

FrenchBoule · 31/05/2019 12:59

10-12 littres bin here, approx twice a week

FrenchBoule · 31/05/2019 12:59

Family of 4

User1010 · 31/05/2019 13:01

Weekly however we have a recycling bin and a food waste bin.

Freyasmum1 · 31/05/2019 13:06

Every day. 2 under 2 so lots of nappies.

SherlockSays · 31/05/2019 13:09

Probably every 3 days - we also have a baby in nappies, although she's at nursery 4 days a week.

It's just a standard pedal bin, it's actually a bit smaller as it has one flat side.

wellhonestly · 31/05/2019 13:11

We have a bin cupboard with 2 recycling bins, a small compost bin and a small everything-else bin. Paper bin gets emptied once a week. Glass and plastics prob twice a week. Compost bin mebbe 3 times a week. Everything-else bin usually twice a week, but we are emptying it every day at the moment even though it’s not full, as it stinks in the warmer weather since it’s mostly leftover catfood, bacon wrappers etc. Yuck.

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 31/05/2019 13:12

Ours is 30L and is full after a few days. I recycle everything so the wheelie bin isn't too full
