they are not legally allowed to let your ds go home with him in his care if he is drunk, for a start

I really don't understand alcohol being at school or nursery events, particularly daytime ones.

Yes ds ok, but nursery have just phoned to make sure they got back ok because ds had been sick before coming home. Dp now asleep in bed!!!!!!

What a good example to set

We used to have wine at our nursery events, but the adults were sensible enough to know that you're supposed to have just one glass, or maybe two if not driving.

Sounds like jazzicatz's DP saw it as an excuse to chug back the free alcohol, and get hammered.

I am actually really pissed off with dp and nursery. One of the teachers offered to drive dp and ds home because dp so hammered

I'd take a pretty dim view of this personally. I'd probably break his jaw. And flush his chess set down the john.

If they want to have a boozy adults' social session, they should arrange it in the evening when the children aren't there. Sending all the children home with tipsy parents is just weird.
