Me,parents and ds 5 went out for an early dinner,we were asked for our order then told that all salads and hummus were off.
Dm is vegetarian and was really looking forward to one of the salads but she sucked it up and ordered a cheese sandwich, all good..so far.Server then came back and told me I couldn't have lettuce on my sandwich because of the salad situation,ok then.
Finally my sandwich came,I had ordered Turkey stuffing bacon and mayo.It came with no stuffing,no mayo but with bbq sauce which I dont like so I sent it back resulting in me eating alone as everyone else had finished.
The server came over and said they weren't going to charge me for my meal I replied well good because I didn't feel like paying for it,we've been messed about and you didn't get my order right! Am I an entitled bitch or is my reaction reasonable seeing as there was a lot off menu and then they got it wrong?

I’m not het up either 🤣

Bluntness100 · 22/05/2019 20:38

You took your veggie mother to a Toby carvery.. Of course her choice was limited,

This might need to go in classics. . 🤣

CarolDanvers · 22/05/2019 20:38

OP I'd stop engaging if I were you. People are just going to keep ripping into you. Some threads just go that way and there's little point in hanging around for it.

Chopinaround · 22/05/2019 20:38

I think any comment you wanted to make should be to the manager not the waiting staff as it’s totally not their fault and they are neither responsible nor paid enough to on the receiving end of stuff beyond their control.

SauvignonBlanche · 22/05/2019 20:39

You can tell a lot about a person based on how they treat waiters/ waitresses.

I agree, the shame of having such a similar user name to someone who is rude to a waitress is awful. Blush What if someone mixes us up on another thread? I’ve had this name for nearly 10 years and am quite attached to it but... Sad

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 22/05/2019 20:39

@CarolDanvers I'm thick skinned its fine

Fuming about not getting a veggie salad at the Toby CARVERY....

Sorry but if you loved your ma you’d take her somewhere better then that 🤷‍♀️

slashlover · 22/05/2019 20:39

My mums choice was limited.
Where did you take her?
A carvery!

I'm sure there was another restaurant somewhere you could have gone to rather than her getting a cheese sandwich.

theemmadilemma · 22/05/2019 20:40

YABU for going to Toby.

YANBU for being pissed off that they ran out of salad and food - bad practice.
YANBU for being pissed off that they got your order wrong.

YABU for speaking rudely to the wait staff who took off the cost of your meal to compensate your their obvious error.

Thank you even with a grimace would have sufficed.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 22/05/2019 20:40

@SauvingonBlanche time to change your user name maybe then? Over a carvery thread?Confused

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc
You can "speak your mind" without being rude.

If they already came to apologise and not charge you, not sure what else you wanted? Are you trying to get your sad face in the DM "My nightmare with Toby Carvery who let me starve and discriminated because I am a veggie"?

*@DailyMail& HELLO! There's a story for you here!
not

sel180 · 22/05/2019 20:40

I'm finding the level of animosity towards OP in this thread quite odd! We all say things when we're frustrated & annoyed that we question moments later. You're only human! I don't think you have to be as hard on yourself about it as the majority of posters on here are.

MissMary0fSweden · 22/05/2019 20:40

Well not to worry OP, you have ended up with a roast after all. Just not at Toby Carvery.

Ffsnosexallowed · 22/05/2019 20:40

I think you were being perfectly reasonable. As for folk saying that op shouldn't have taken it out on the waitress, should she have asked to speak to the chef? To the person responsible for salad ordering? Waitress get paid (poorly) to feel with customers.

ilovesooty · 22/05/2019 20:41

I think you were rude given that they had made it clear they wouldn't be charging for your meal.

You seemingly posted either wanting affirmation from people or to try to wind them up if they didn't provide it.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 22/05/2019 20:41

@Dh definitely dont want a sad face article,I've done my trip advisor review I'm good thanks

Ffsnosexallowed · 22/05/2019 20:41

Deal with!! They don't get paid to feel with customers...

CarolDanvers · 22/05/2019 20:41

@sel180

Me too. Utterly bizarre.

AnneTwackie · 22/05/2019 20:41

Well aren’t you a treat

JacquesHammer · 22/05/2019 20:41

She didn’t need to “take it out” on anybody Confused

They were advised of stocking issues before they ordered and chose to go ahead. A mistake was made, rectified and the bill adjusted accordingly.

What more was required?!

Goldmandra · 22/05/2019 20:42

As for folk saying that op shouldn't have taken it out on the waitress, should she have asked to speak to the chef?

Why did she need to speak to anyone. They had admitted their mistakes and told her they would not be charging her. There was nothing left that needed saying, apart from thank you.

OldUnit · 22/05/2019 20:43

Who the fuck goes to a Toby Carvery and asks for a cheese salad sandwich!?!

I bet they hadn't run out of, you know, CARVERIES.

YABU.

ilovesooty · 22/05/2019 20:43

I'm thick skinned

Finally some valid self reflection. Grin

Hefzi · 22/05/2019 20:43

If your mother being happy is so important to you, why the fuck did you a) go to a Carvery or b) assuming you only went because the salad that was unavailable is her favourite dish ever, didn't you leave once it was unavailable.

I have been veggie for over 40 years: in the event I am with a group going to the Carvery, I have a plate of veg (there's even this option on the menu, so I'm clearly not alone in this). If I am with family or friends, neither group would ever choose a carvery for us to dine in - not because my happiness is "very important" to them, but just because they have good manners. Likewise, I wouldn't take my dad to a vegan restaurant for dinner, knowing he only considers it a meal if there's meat in it.

None of us would be as rude as you were to the waitress (because, like it or not, your self-righteous attitude was rude. She'd done what she could to rectify - as far as was possible - the situation without being asked. Pretty poor manners to then do the whole "I should think so too" blather at her) because no one I would be prepared to share a meal with is an absolute twat.

People like you are why I always shake my head in mystification when people talk about how polite the British are - because as this thread has shown, you're by no means alone in believing your behaviour justified Confused
