Me,parents and ds 5 went out for an early dinner,we were asked for our order then told that all salads and hummus were off.
Dm is vegetarian and was really looking forward to one of the salads but she sucked it up and ordered a cheese sandwich, all good..so far.Server then came back and told me I couldn't have lettuce on my sandwich because of the salad situation,ok then.
Finally my sandwich came,I had ordered Turkey stuffing bacon and mayo.It came with no stuffing,no mayo but with bbq sauce which I dont like so I sent it back resulting in me eating alone as everyone else had finished.
The server came over and said they weren't going to charge me for my meal I replied well good because I didn't feel like paying for it,we've been messed about and you didn't get my order right! Am I an entitled bitch or is my reaction reasonable seeing as there was a lot off menu and then they got it wrong?

It wasn't an error - sounds as though they'd under ordered or were waiting for a delivery.

The sandwich with half the ingredients missing and no consultation over what they were subbing was a final straw. I don't blaming you for saying something. Not charging for your sandwich was the least they could do.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 22/05/2019 20:11

@wowfudge thanks glad to see I'm not in some sort of twilight zone!

OP posts:
wowfudge · 22/05/2019 20:13

Do you think you would have stayed if they'd told you they had no stuffing or mayo either?

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 22/05/2019 20:14

@Absolutepowercorrupts.Im in a customer facing role too unfortunately, the first port of call is the person in front of you surely?.Asking to speak to a manager would have been worse surely?

Cariadne · 22/05/2019 20:14

You were really rude - they had already told you they weren’t charging you. But you still felt the need to be stroppy with a server who is probably paid peanuts and who is hardly responsible for the fact that the salad had gone off.

People treat serving staff like absolute shit even when they’re trying to remedy a situation and it’s so unfair. Imagine if someone made a bitchy, public comment every time you slipped up at work!

SparklesandFlowers · 22/05/2019 20:14

Definitely NBU to complain that they got your order wrong.

YWBU to be rude when they said they wouldn't charge you. They were trying to go some way to rectifying what had happened. Are you usually rude when someone tries to apologise or make up for a mistake? I wouldn't like to ever accidentally step on your toe!

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 22/05/2019 20:15

@wowfudge dunno I was very hungry and probably hangry as per my reaction.

donquixotedelamancha · 22/05/2019 20:15

Sounds like better than average service for a Toby Carvery.

Antigonads · 22/05/2019 20:16

I said something similar on Christmas Eve. Two similar dishes on the menu. Ordered one and pointed out that I wanted that one and not the other as it contained meat. Wrong dish arrived. Sent it back. Everyone else ate and finished. I called the waitress over and told her to cancel mine. Manager came over to say mine was almost ready but I told her I didn’t want to sit and eat on my own. When the bill came I was informed they had not charged for my dish to which I replied ‘I should think not as I didn’t have it’.

Was I rude?

codenameduchess · 22/05/2019 20:16

Yabu got going to the Toby carvery for hummus and salad, I almost understand if one person from a large group wants something like that but 2 of 4 why even bother?

Yabvu for being rude to your server, who didn't make your food and isn't responsible for the restaurants ordering and subsequent shortages. They had acknowledged the problem and you were unnecessarily rude and seem proud of that.

Sn0tnose · 22/05/2019 20:17

surely youd be pissed off in my situation? It’s completely reasonable to be pissed off because they didn’t have the food you wanted to eat. What is not reasonable is assuming your server has any say over how much food gets ordered in, what gets taken off the menu and how long the staff in the kitchen take to rustle up an incorrect sandwich. Why would you be an arsehole to them when it sounds like they were doing the best they could to make the situation better for you?

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 22/05/2019 20:17

@Cariadne I totally appreciate serving staff,I know it wasnt their fault but I was voicing my opinion which is my right.I wasnt rude I just stated that I was glad I wasnt being charged as I didn't want to pay.

OP posts:
Blueemeraldagain · 22/05/2019 20:17

You were that rude after they had not charged you for your meal? I could understand being a little frustrated and snappy if presented with the full bill but they had already taken your meal off!

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 22/05/2019 20:19

@Antigonads no you weren't being rude! You were informing them that you weren't happy as was I.

OP posts:
JacquesHammer · 22/05/2019 20:19

You were very rude.

They had already dealt with the situation.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 22/05/2019 20:20

@coden I'll go to the toby Carvery for whatever I want that they state is on the menu tbh.

“I’m not afraid of speaking my mind” I think sums this all up..

feelingsinister · 22/05/2019 20:21

You were rude. You weren't charged so you could have just thanked the server. They aren't responsible for the lack of salad or wrong sandwich and are probably paid shit wages to be spoken to like shit.

And as others have said, why the fuck would you go to a Toby for a salad or sandwich? That's just odd.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 22/05/2019 20:22

@user sums it up that 3/4 of their vegetarian menu was off

OP posts:
herculepoirot2 · 22/05/2019 20:22

Normally if something like that happens to me, I say don’t worry, these things happen. Be more gracious.

BrilliantYou · 22/05/2019 20:22

YABU!

They made you aware of the situation before you ordered - you agreed and ordered.

They made a mistake with your sandwich, they put right the mistake plus didn't charge you.

What else do you want?

Nofunkingworriesmate · 22/05/2019 20:22

You should have said it to the manager orhead office not the wairtress who has no control over anything

CarolDanvers · 22/05/2019 20:22

Not only are you an entitled bitch you're also rude.

very rude

What?! 🤷‍♀️

You weren't rude OP. I have reported @CustardCreamLover and her horribly aggressive response to you. I do not believe that people would have this much go wrong at a meal and not speak up. MN is so odd at times.

feelingsinister · 22/05/2019 20:23

Also, why are you even asking because you're not listening to the many people telling you that you were rude.

wowfudge · 22/05/2019 20:23

Oh fgs - there's no indication they actually apologised. A lot of people would rather have an apology than simply not be charged at the stage where you have actually eaten. Also the waiting staff are the intermediaries between the customers and the kitchen staff - the server played a role in this farago.
