To ask how much rent you pay?

I was reading this Mumsnet thread about how much mumsnetters were paying each month on rent (2014) www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2049466-To-wonder-just-how-much-rent-you-people-are-paying?pg=1&order=

And I was quite shocked at how high rent rates were back in 2014. Now I am wondering how bad it is five years later?

I rent a 3 bed semi detached house in Warwickshire for £440 a month, in a good area with good schools. How about you?

SimonJT · 04/05/2019 14:57

Not long left rented to buy, my rent for a small two bed flat was £1300 pcm.

hazell42 · 04/05/2019 14:57

Not telling you, or anyone else

There was a time when no one ever asked about people's finances.

I miss those days

EL8888 · 04/05/2019 14:58

Last time l rented a couple of years ago: £620 for a 1 bedroom house (no garden or parking) in Essex

Applesbananaspears · 04/05/2019 14:58

We rented for a while while we did work to our house. It was £1800 for a 4 bed with no garden, in that there was absolutely no garden, not a yard, not a tiny space, nothing. Cheapest house we could find just outside London

EvilDog · 04/05/2019 14:59

Was 1695 per month in London for 3 bed maisonette.

Now 595 per month (includes water rates) in South Wales

Both private rent

Charlottejade89 · 04/05/2019 14:59

Zone 6 London - on Kent borders.

1960s terrace house - built for private owner rather than social housing. L shape open plan downstairs with living area, kitchen and dining area. Integrated garage. Upstairs 3 beds and a bathroom.

£1450 a month rent. £154 council tax. Plus all other bills.

SarahBeeney · 04/05/2019 15:01

I'm in SE London,it's an ok area but not posh. My neighbour's rent and they pay £1800 a month for a 3 bed terrace.
It's ridiculous!

I'm lucky has my mortgage is a fraction of that,if I had to rent I wouldn't be able to afford to live here. I work in the arts so I'm limited to where I can live and work i.e big cities only.

MrsPear · 04/05/2019 15:02

hazell42 you don’t need to tell as it’s easy to look up now!

SparklesandFlowers · 04/05/2019 15:02

Was private rent in Oxford - 3 bed semi (one really small room) for £1175.

We've just moved to our own house - bliss!

KATismyusername · 04/05/2019 15:02

£320 pm in the north west. Just a smallish town. 3 bed terrace

purpleme12 · 04/05/2019 15:03

£600 a month. West Yorkshire. 3 bedrooms (the third is like a box room)

motherheroic · 04/05/2019 15:06

@hazell42 The scroll button exists for a reason.

isseywithcats · 04/05/2019 15:06

3 bed semi west yorkshire £585 per month

feduuup · 04/05/2019 15:10

Most we paid was £725 a month for a 2 bed flat in the SE 10 years ago, least we paid was about £200 a month for a 3 bed house in London zone 6 (military quarters) it was quite scary going from peanuts rent to a mortgage. But we never wanted to risk going back in to private rent so thought we better buy sooner rather than later.

RezCowgirl · 04/05/2019 15:12

2 bed terrace £495 Derbyshire

quietmoon · 04/05/2019 15:14

Can't believe some of these prices, it's crazy how it varies so much from area to area.

£850 a month for a two bed flat in Kent

Thankfuckitsfriday1 · 04/05/2019 15:20

2 bed in Brighton £1,095

And to buy the prices are extortionate. We have no choice but to stay put in our area otherwise we'd move north

optimisticpessimist01 · 04/05/2019 15:29

SW of a city in the North- affluent area but I live in a 2 bed apartment in the area. A 3 bed semi-detached round here goes for upwards of £400k. I pay £675 pcm for the 2 bed apt

I pay a lot for the city I live in, my friends who live in a surrounding town pay £450 for a 3 bed semi house, but for the area I live in its around the going rate

coconutcurls · 04/05/2019 15:30
