To ask how much rent you pay?

I was reading this Mumsnet thread about how much mumsnetters were paying each month on rent (2014) www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2049466-To-wonder-just-how-much-rent-you-people-are-paying?pg=1&order=

And I was quite shocked at how high rent rates were back in 2014. Now I am wondering how bad it is five years later?

I rent a 3 bed semi detached house in Warwickshire for £440 a month, in a good area with good schools. How about you?

The last rent I paid was £875 for a two-bedroom and a box room. I would never call the box room a bedroom because you could barely fit a child's cot in it. It was in Wokingham in 1998!!

It makes my eyes water to imagine what that house would rent for now.

Fionadragon · 04/05/2019 16:31

£2650 for a four bed in west Kent.

x2boys · 04/05/2019 16:32

£360 a month in the northwest of England it's a two bed council house a private rented one would be about £400 in my area, .

NamelessGem · 04/05/2019 16:32

£240 for a two bed bungalow, huge garden, private parking and up on the moors. Gorgeous area to live, house is a bit dated though.
Cornwall !

Mamabear12 · 04/05/2019 16:38

When we were renting a 3 bedroom, it was 3,000 a month in London.

scaryteacher · 04/05/2019 16:43

Last house near Brussels, €2600 per month, with yearly rises. Current house near Brussels, €1800 per month, but house is part of a larger estate, so repairs carried out by l/l, and no rent increase so far.

I rent out my home in UK for about £1100 per month, but it's a large 4 bed period detached, well finished and well maintained.

850 2000sq flat no outside space in Lincolnshire. Not in the best shape but we don’t mind. It’s a pretty secure tenancy which saves us getting a mortgage (we really don’t want to buy with a mortgage but we don’t want to rent somewhere we could be asked to leave either).

MirandaWest · 04/05/2019 16:45

We were paying £1,425 for a large 5 bedroom house near York

NotSoThinLizzy · 04/05/2019 16:47

3 bed house with garden and 2 min walk to school and corner shop £320 a month. Scotland

pinotnoirismyjam · 04/05/2019 16:49

Zone 3 SE London, £1,300 a month for a 2 bed flat with garden and off-street parking.

15 minute walk to the station, which is why it's on the cheaper side for the area.

goldenchicken · 04/05/2019 16:52

@NamelessGem

£240 a month is super cheap. Or do you mean £240 a week?!

In the suburbs and small towns of the midlands, private let is about £600 to £725 per month for an ordinary semi, and maybe £450 to £525 for a 1 to 3 bed flat, and maybe a £800 to £1000 a month for a detached house.

Private rent in the city centres (of Birmingham, Leicester, Wolverhampton, Coventry) and so on is often 50% higher ...

Social housing is pretty much always semi or terraced, and is usually £350 to £550 a month. There is not much social housing in city centres.

You could probably find all this out on google though @quietmoon 😁😊

We pay £1000 a month for a 4-bed semi (essentially an extended 3 bed) in a nice area in Leicestershire. It’s fairly average for the nicer areas around here

YahBasic · 04/05/2019 17:02

2 bedroom flat in Bristol - 1250.

Our mortgage will be that on a four bedroom house, still south west but not Bristol.

Illy603 · 04/05/2019 17:04

Can’t believe how much some of you are paying 😖
I’m £495 a month for a 2 bedroom flat. Moving in July to a 3 bedroom house for £395 a month. North East of England.

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 04/05/2019 17:09

We were paying 1800e a month for a two bed in South Dublin. Bought recently and our mortgage is a lot less

checkingforballoons · 04/05/2019 17:11

This is like the MN chicken feeding a family of 4 for 3 days.

I also live in Warwickshire, in a nice area with good schools. A 3bed semi would be at least £800pm, and this town isn't particularly expensive compared to neighbouring Warwickshire towns.

Sometimes I think I live in a parallel universe when I read MN.

goldenchicken · 04/05/2019 17:15

@tor8181

That sounds fab! A big 3 bed in the valleys of Wales. Decent rent too. Smile

numptysod · 04/05/2019 17:16

£850 2 bed semi detached quite small but good size garden!

Asdf12345 · 04/05/2019 17:17

£600pcm but that includes council tax and water.

Four bed detached with a few outbuildings.

Zoflorabore · 04/05/2019 17:18

Just under £400 per month, HA property in the NW, 3 bedroom semi with a huge garden and parking.

KittyVonCatsworth · 04/05/2019 17:19

@YahBasic Bristol is blinking expensive huh! I looked at moving there a month back and I couldn't believe what they are charging! I would be paying £650 a month for a studio / bedsit in Bedminster 😨 instead I moved to Newport and get a 2 bed, end terrace 2 bed house. Folks moving over the border has pushed prices up in S Wales too.

cassiewoowoo · 04/05/2019 17:21

£695 per month for a small two bed semi with garden and driveway, Norwich suburb.

Lana1234 · 04/05/2019 17:22
