To ask how much rent you pay?

I was reading this Mumsnet thread about how much mumsnetters were paying each month on rent (2014) www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2049466-To-wonder-just-how-much-rent-you-people-are-paying?pg=1&order=

And I was quite shocked at how high rent rates were back in 2014. Now I am wondering how bad it is five years later?

I rent a 3 bed semi detached house in Warwickshire for £440 a month, in a good area with good schools. How about you?

£315 for a 1 bed, undesirable area (unless you're running an AirBnB - there's a guy on my street charging his guests about £70 a day, and as far as I can tell, doing very well).

I thank my lucky stars my landlord wouldn't have the time to do that.

daphine2004 · 04/05/2019 18:46

£925 Manchester for a three bed.

ihatemyjobsomuch · 04/05/2019 18:50

I don’t know why but Hazels answer made me laugh so much I nearly choked on my cup of tea.

I pay £625 for a (tiny) 2 bed in North Yorkshire

WireHeart · 04/05/2019 18:52

£850 2 bed flat, Edinburgh

I wss lucky to be able to rent off a friend for 8 years and I paid £500 PCM for a 2 bed new build with a garage. It was in a lovely area. I have since moved a mile up the road to a council house where the rent is £375 including water. It is a two bed mid terrace. Both rooms are huge I took it for the security of tenancy.

I live in South Wales near Cardiff.

ChicCroissant · 04/05/2019 19:11

A two-bed terrace on the estate I live on is up for rental at £750pcm! I think we paid less than that for our three-bed detached on the same estate when we rented it a few years back - we're in the South West. Prices appear to have risen!

£1300 pm for a 3 bed house in herts.

Council tax is £217 PM.

LaganBubble · 04/05/2019 19:50

Southern med. 3 bed, 3 bathroom bungalow. 650 EUR a month.

CamillafromCobham · 04/05/2019 20:04

I rent out a few properties in SW London. The 4 bed house rents for £1000 per week. By comparison the mortgage on the property is 1/3 of that. It’s crazy but it’s the going rate locally.

QueenOfPain · 04/05/2019 20:09

£550 for a two bed first floor flat with a fairly large roof terrace, in the East Midlands. The flat has some nice features like a vaulted ceiling in the living room and exposed stonework, it’s in a listed building.

2 bed + bedroom terrace in Manchester, £500pcm. We've been here since 2011 and don't make demands on the landlord. We handle most upkeep ourselves and only contact them for big things. They've not raised the rent in 6 years. Next door went up for rent for £800 recently although to be fair its had a lot more done to it in terms of upkeep and the landlords would be looking at a lot of work and expense and a good few months with no rental income if they wanted to kick us out and get new tenants paying that much.

WheresAllTheGoodInTheWorld · 04/05/2019 20:14

Hampshire HA flat. 2 bed. 650pm

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 04/05/2019 20:18

I own, but the house along from us is split into two flats (we know the owner), each one is one bed, but reasonable size - living room, kitchen diner and bedroom with half a 100ft garden each and a space for one car on the shared drive (rest is lawn), they rent for £895 a month that's Essex

TheDarkPassenger · 04/05/2019 20:33

Huge Victorian 3 bed plus attic room with big yard and front garden plus garage- £535 Durham

I honestly can’t believe prices down south Shock

Rosielee93 · 04/05/2019 20:39

£1250 a month for a 4 bed detached house in bristol. That's cheap for bristol.

jamoncrumpets · 04/05/2019 20:43

3 bed terrace in Kent, £925 a month.

Was paying £1600 for a 2 bed house in E London.

LynetteScavo · 04/05/2019 20:44

I am fortunate that my home is a council house, many private rentals in my area £750-850 per month.

Ha! You didn't tell us that in your OP!!!

If you really want to know rental prices around the country there's always Rightmove.

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 04/05/2019 20:55

@TheDarkPassenger we paid more than that for our student house in Durham in 2005!

NamelessGem · 04/05/2019 20:57

@goldenchicken

Nope it’s £62 a week :) so a little more than £240 my mistake but yep very cheap, I never want to leave but it is a very small place !

MsHybridFanGirl · 04/05/2019 20:57

£524 per month for a 2 bed mid-terraced Housing Association home in Berkshire

Mummadeeze · 04/05/2019 20:58

£1400 per month for a one bed flat in SW London. It is a nice flat though in the catchment area for an outstanding secondary school. We sleep in the sitting room. It works fine for now.

Osquito · 04/05/2019 21:02

£600 for an old 2-bed terrace, with a decent backyard, Greater Manchester. Last time I checked online it said average rent for this kind of property in our certain post code was about £750 Shock

Iwantacookie · 04/05/2019 21:03

£425 for 3 bed semi ha house in west Midlands.
Same houses in my street private rent £750!

tanpestryfirescreen · 04/05/2019 21:12

These all seem low. I live in Yorkshire- we own but next door is split into flats and the basement - 3 bed is £2000 a month. Compared to a mortgage of £400,000 that seems ok?

masktaster · 04/05/2019 21:18

2 up 2 down in an almost desirable part of a less desirable West Midlands city - £355 a month.

Cheaper than most around here (it was amongst the cheapest when we moved in, but others like it have gone up more since, seemingly), but the LL doesn't seem to give a damn about it, so it isn't especially nice (think cupboard doors falling off, unresolved damp issues, etc) - who knows, he might make it nice and up the rent when we leave?
