To ask how much rent you pay?

I was reading this Mumsnet thread about how much mumsnetters were paying each month on rent (2014) www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2049466-To-wonder-just-how-much-rent-you-people-are-paying?pg=1&order=

And I was quite shocked at how high rent rates were back in 2014. Now I am wondering how bad it is five years later?

I rent a 3 bed semi detached house in Warwickshire for £440 a month, in a good area with good schools. How about you?

£550pm for a 2 bed flat in Glasgow.

optimisticpessimist01 · 04/05/2019 15:30

I should've maybe been more specific with the area- the (only?) city in South Yorks

Justanothernamechange2 · 04/05/2019 15:31

East midlands - we have a mortgage but my neighbours in a like for like 3bed semi pay £575 p/m.

Often a convo we have cause our mortgage is considerably less than their rent

Curious2468 · 04/05/2019 15:32

I own my home but standard 3 bed mid terrace with no parking is about £1100 here. South east

RubyWho · 04/05/2019 15:34

Surrey; almost Hampshire. We are south of Guildford. £1000pcm for a tiny two bed cottage. No parking, tiny outside space. It’s under the going rent for the area.
Our council tax is almost £300 a month though, water is £70, joint gas and electric £80 (yes we’ve shopped around).

I was house sharing in SW London prior to this and paying £890 for my rent, but £200 in joint bills.

@hazell42 don't bother answering then! Nobody forced you to!

teenagetantrums · 04/05/2019 15:35

We pay £625 for 2 bedroom flat in South West. We could probably get a bit cheaper but it's a lovely flat very near to where we both work and rent not gone up for last 3years.

Gin96 · 04/05/2019 15:38

Next door pay £1400 a month rent for a 3 bed detached Milton Keynes, I pay £500 on my mortgage for a bigger house, it’s scary how much rent is.

KindnessCrusader · 04/05/2019 15:38

3 bed semi one reception room south east village with outstanding primary and secondary schools. £1100 a month but that is amazingly cheap and hasn't gone up in the 6 years we have lived here.

DerelictWreck · 04/05/2019 15:39

Until 2years ago I was paying £1000pm for a room in a shared flat in London!

Many of these rent rates are more than my monthly income Sad
I am fortunate that my home is a council house, many private rentals in my area £750-850 per month. The rise in HMO properties make me feel like many families will struggle to find affordable private rentals in the future.

What is the point of these threads? Different people pay vastly different amounts of rent depending on how big their home is and where they live. If you find that hard to grasp check Rightmove. And Rightmove has photos.

BelulahBlanca · 04/05/2019 15:43

£600 for a room in Kent

murasaki · 04/05/2019 15:45

1340 for two bd terrace in Croydon. Ho hum.

Branleuse · 04/05/2019 15:45

4 bed, north essex, 950 a month

FuzzyShadowChatter · 04/05/2019 16:07

4 bed and 2 and a bit reception rooms in Derbyshire, went up to £675 per month last year. The area is good, I think, with easy access and some facilities. The schools generally need improvement or inadequate, though the local college is good and has programmes from Y10 up and one of the new secondary schools is showing a lot of promise.

YANBU and while it does vary widely and rightmove and similar could give more detailed results, generally being open about finance and discussing the numbers and concerns around it can be very helpful.

Tent in Ireland is very expensive. A two bed flat in a town is about 1200, Dublin more than London. For perspective I moved to Ireland from London. I rented my flat in SE London for 1200 but paid 1500 fir same shabbier place not in Dublin. Criminal really. Fortunate now said flat sold so have small mortgage.

MotherOfDragons90 · 04/05/2019 16:15

I moved out of my rental two years ago cus we bought but it was £625pm for a one bed flat. It was Victorian though so had massive rooms, but no garden or parking.

Think it was on Rightmove for £650pm after we moved out

MotherOfDragons90 · 04/05/2019 16:15

Sorry should have said that is SW, Bristol area

Shmithecat2 · 04/05/2019 16:16

Last place I rented, 2/3 bed cottage in Wiltshire, £700 a month.

BetsyBigNose · 04/05/2019 16:18

£875 for a 3 bedroom flat, 5 min walk from the city centre in a lovely part of Exeter, with a 3m x 6m outside terrace.

Sickofphd · 04/05/2019 16:19

OP I'm also in Warwickshire and was going to say you must be getting a steal but now you've said it's council housing it makes sense. We pay £725 for an old 2 bedder and consider ourselves quite lucky!

Indie139 · 04/05/2019 16:20

2 bed london- £924

PositiveVibez · 04/05/2019 16:22
