To ask WTH happened to me?

Hi mumsnetters
The weirdest thing happened to me last night and I'm hoping to get some reassurance or guidance on what it could be.
So I'm about to go to bed but realise I have forgotten to take the clothes from the washing machine out.
I'm getting to the kitchen and my legs start feeling really heavy like I'm about to faint. I decide to not take any risk and lie down on the kitchen floor. My whole body feels heavy. I call my oldest daughter (14) to help me stand. I try to get up but I literally feel like I'm weighing 200 tonnes
Even talking feels difficult
She encourages me to sit but my left side feels even heavier than the rest of my body so every time I manage to sit I fall down on my left side. I end up soiling myself and somehow manage to stand and shower. I then go to the toilet and bang my head on the sink my entire body weight seems to be going toward my left
I ended up managing to go to bed with the help of my oldest child but I'm freaking out. What was that? Why couldn't I lift my body up? Shall I see a gp tomorrow?
TiA

It's a good point
I have mentioned it and the docs were quite shocked but its a different hospital to the one I went to on Monday.
I'm considering making a formal complaint though once I'm over and done here. I can't help but feel very angry at the response given at A&E where I waited over 4 hours and no test was done.

I think a formal complaint is a good idea. You can ask where you are if they can get the PALS representative to come and see you.

I hope you're on the mend very soon.

How scary for you op. How does shingles trigger a stroke ? Can they stop another one happening ?

LeukaeLucky · 29/04/2019 08:33

@SirVixofVixHall my understanding, but I'm a profane, is that the virus goes to your brain (my shingles was pretty serious and it was disseminated as in, it had spread across both sides of my body and my face).
Once in your brain, it creates an inflammation of your nerves, the nerves press on the blood vessels and it stops the blood from flowing freely hence the stroke.
It has been reported in some medical publications but it's kind of a case study (the neurologist was quite excited to see a real life case as it was her area of interest)

I was given aspirin and antiviral to fight the virus so hopefully that will stop it from reoccurring

I so relieved for you that they at least now seem to know what happened and why. When you were told “stress” after the first episode it seemed highly unlikely given what you had said, so I was worrying about you. Women seem to often get told that stress is to blame. My friend ended up in agony with a ruptured ovarian cyst, having been told a month or so earlier that stress was the reason she was in pain, so I am very skeptical when that gets trotted out !
Wishing you a swift recovery now. Flowers Cake Gin

LeukaeLucky · 29/04/2019 12:04

@SirVixofVixHall that's madness! Yes women and their well-known hysteria...
Thanks à lot

Chartreuser · 29/04/2019 14:16

How funny that this female hysteria mimics both a ruptured ovarian cyst and a stroke?!

OP I am so glad to read your updates (but Angry about your initial hospital visit) as it so clearly seemed to point to a stroke or TIA. Regular I wouldn't wish one on anyone even worse would be an undiagnosed/untreated one, so glad you've dodged that but at least.

And Grin for being a real life case study, that should ensure you top-notch care going forward (and possibly a citation too)

Hope the headache has done one too

LeukaeLucky · 29/04/2019 15:20

@Chartreuser fingers crossed Grin

So glad you've got a good specialist, pne who's actually interested in what you have! While I'm sorry you've had it, I'm glad you've got a good doc. Good luck!

Hope you're feeling well again soon Flowers

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 29/04/2019 22:18

Get well soon lovely.

The virus that causes chicken pox and shingles can attack the arteries in your brain, they can cause the lining of an artery to collapse inwards cutting off blood flow momentarily or sometimes for longer before the blood pressure overwhelms this and restores flow)
This happened to my child twice in 4 days after having chicken pox, the first stroke was small and caused little damage, the 2nd was massive and caused a lot of damage to his brain, he had to relearn everything and still has deficits now 12 years later. It's such a scary thing and I'm glad you are being treated now and hope you have a full recovery. Push for OT and PT ASAP just so you can start to heal quickly :)

LeukaeLucky · 03/05/2019 12:26

Omg @ohmydaysagain I'm so sorry to hear that. How come it's not more advertised! Most children get chicken pox!

I'm still in hospital, hoping to be released today but my liver is suffering from the high dose of antiviral to kill off the virus so I keep my fingers crossed.

All the best for your son and you x

goodness! i hope you've got a better diagnosis now and some form of treatment plan.

But really - next time please do say the word Stroke and Ambulance when you call 999 and they'll make sure you get seen first.

winepls · 08/05/2019 07:23

How are you doing @LeukaeLucky?

LeukaeLucky · 08/05/2019 10:04

@winepls I'm finally back at home, with loads of steroids, aspirin and antiviral. I have another MRI next week to see if the inflammation has gone down. I'm feeling OK just puffy from the steroids and worn down. Thanks for asking
