To ask WTH happened to me?

LeukaeLucky · 22/04/2019 09:56

Hi mumsnetters
The weirdest thing happened to me last night and I'm hoping to get some reassurance or guidance on what it could be.
So I'm about to go to bed but realise I have forgotten to take the clothes from the washing machine out.
I'm getting to the kitchen and my legs start feeling really heavy like I'm about to faint. I decide to not take any risk and lie down on the kitchen floor. My whole body feels heavy. I call my oldest daughter (14) to help me stand. I try to get up but I literally feel like I'm weighing 200 tonnes
Even talking feels difficult
She encourages me to sit but my left side feels even heavier than the rest of my body so every time I manage to sit I fall down on my left side. I end up soiling myself and somehow manage to stand and shower. I then go to the toilet and bang my head on the sink my entire body weight seems to be going toward my left
I ended up managing to go to bed with the help of my oldest child but I'm freaking out. What was that? Why couldn't I lift my body up? Shall I see a gp tomorrow?
TiA

I wasn't offered any of these @Passthecherrycoke
Is the physical check up enough to dismiss something that serious?

OP posts:
Pleatherandlace · 22/04/2019 15:18

I think it’s very likely that you have had a TIA given the description of your symptoms. The amount of time that has elapsed since onset would likely mean that there would be no residual neuro signs by now. I would make an urgent GP appointment and ask for a referral to your local hospital’s TIA clinic for proper investigation. TIA’s are often a warning sign that you are headed for a full blown stroke. Unfortunately I have treated many patients in their 20’s and 30’s age is irrelevant here.

“Stress”???

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 22/04/2019 15:19

Stress does not make you incontinent . It may give you other symptoms but that would be a huge red flag
You need a full cardiovascular bloods work up at the very least

90percentvodka10percenthuman · 22/04/2019 15:21

Glad you were seen but it doesn’t sound like they took you seriously.

I had a tia at 33. It only lasted for about 2 minutes and was well and truly over by the time I decided to go to a&e. They put me on a high dose of aspirin, told me I couldn’t drive and referred me to the stroke clinic.

If you had indeed had a tia then you’ll be at a massively increased risk of having another or an actual stroke. And honestly, reading your op, the description of heaviness, really reminded me of my tia.

LeukaeLucky · 22/04/2019 15:24

Thanks. I will try to get a follow up gp appointment JIC and stay vigilant

Littlechocola · 22/04/2019 15:33

Glad you are okay. How scary. Call GP first thing tomorrow.

hellenbackagen · 22/04/2019 15:37

Op you've been well and truly fobbed off.

Phone your own doctor tomorrow and get an appt ASAP.

Stress = we don't know are are busy and can't be arsed to refer you or check you out properly.

You need to see someone else they e not taken this seriously.

If it happens again - 999. None of this oh I'm fine don't worry - you need to o tell dd that it's 999 time .
Get back to gp and be a little more demanding!

steff13 · 22/04/2019 15:39

No. Did they know you've had cancer?

@steff13 I told them and also mentioned that I had shingles a couple of months ago as I saw that there could be a link between stroke and shingles but they seemed to be happy with my response. @hellenbackagen I'll do that. It's frustrating to wait for so long and not have a proper check. They were probably too busy. I'm not even sure the guy was a doctor as he was wearing a nurse blouse. I hope it was a one off, I'm feeling quite scared it might happen again.

Spoke to my children, DS thought he should call 911 and youngest DD had the most random number combination in mind. DD 14 said she wasn't stupid and knew about 911 but wasn't sure who to call as I said I was OK but at least we've had the talk and I'm hoping it will be useful in the future.

TheInvestigator · 22/04/2019 15:57

I thought you said you moved to Britain when your daughter was 5?

It's not 911.

LeukaeLucky · 22/04/2019 16:00

@Myheartbelongsto that's fine.
I'm not asking you to believe, we're not talking about the easter bunny or santa or even god.
I could have done a selfy in the emergency room or could post my uber receipt but I'm not here to gather believers just to get outside pov as I tend to dismiss things quite easily and not look after myself so well. I'm glad some people believed me and forced me to take action whether it was going to A&E or having an overdue conversation with my children

OP posts:
LeukaeLucky · 22/04/2019 16:03

Yes when the oldest was 5 in 2009 @TheInvestigator I'm not sure how it's relevant with my last post. She's now 14 +. It's the youngest 2 who suggested it was 911 probably from Netflix shows or cartoons we watch (we're not American)

OP posts:
LeukaeLucky · 22/04/2019 16:04

Sorry oldest knew about 999 I see how it's confusing

OP posts:
Sunlov · 22/04/2019 16:05

This was posted on a thread yesterday.
It was a 3 year old. The mum had dialed 999 and given the phone to the 3 year old.

It's really not acceptable for your children not to know how to get help for themselves or anyone else.

And completely off topic, but do they have internet access since they have no TV? If you had gone unconscious would your dd have been able to google how to call an ambulance?

TheInvestigator · 22/04/2019 16:05

DD 14 said she wasn't stupid and knew about 911

If she thinks it 911 then she's not exactly enlightened about this topic.

@AndOutComeTheBoobs but wouldn't your mum have called an ambulance? Rather than blame the daughter, it would be nicer to suggest the OP could have rung the ambulance, or asked her daughter to ring. I suspect if OP was actually unconscious, the daughter would have rung.

MotherOfGodFella · 22/04/2019 16:15

FYI if you dial 911 you’ll get put through to the emergency services the same as if you’d called 999. I have experience of this thanks to ds Angry

hellenbackagen · 22/04/2019 16:15

Part of me really hopes all the sanctimonious arses find themselves in a position in which they realise they were being sanctimonious arses one day.

Op yes you've definitely played it down and it's important you go back to gp ASAP and tell them everything. It's worrying you've not had better care at a&e but my fil went to a&e in a Friday and was discharged - he died Sunday. They completely missed a massive catastrophic illness .

Do go back and ask for a referral back to the right dept.

Sounds strongly like a TIA. Surprised it's been discounted. Do you have a follow up appointment? Sorry if you've already said.

Did you have bloods taken? And SATS? Could it be some kind of poisoning?

mrsg2019 · 22/04/2019 16:23

I'm no doctor but my mum had the same symptoms as you and when it happened to her she was in Norway. When she felt as you described she asked for an ambulance and when it arrived she started fitting. She was diagnosed with shingles on her brain after several tests and is lucky to be alive (Mum
Was a fit and healthy 42 year old at the time with no health issues at all). She was lucky she was in Norway as they took it very seriously and she had a lot of tests - from what you're describing and the brain fog you seem to be having (911 instead of 999) I think you've been fobbed off and if I was in your position I'd be going back - you do not feel that way to the point you soul yourself because you have a stress headache. I'm so sorry they have dismissed your concerns, I do hope it turns out to be nothing.
