Cleaning a rented house when you leave is standard. They can and likely will take some of your deposit to clean if you didn’t.

I’m sorry you are losing your home but if it’s in your rental agreement then you are going to have money for cleaning withheld if you don’t do it yourself.

Written into the agreement is to leave the house in a clean and tenantable condition. If you do not the cost of a professional clean can be legally withheld from your deposit. Why should someone else clean up after you?

In this scenario it was actually cleaned, hired rug dr, etc, but evidently not to their satisfaction although no details given so are trying to stiff for a hundred quid. Not sure where they got the figure from as surely a whole house clean would be more than that if necessary which it isn't. Plus this is now making me question why I went to so much trouble anyway given that I'm not profiting from sale of house and in fact was made homeless by it.

There was a thread on here recently about an owner occupier selling and general consensus re cleaning was run a hoover round and wipe surfaces. Not sure why tenants expected to do more when it's not even their fucking house and they're not getting anything out of the sale.

Oh behave and maybe have a bit of sympathy for someone who's yet again been evicted through no fault of their own by yet another private landlord being stiffed for part of the deposit when you have to scrounge a fortune to find somewhere else to live would stick in the craw of anybody.

The sooner the private rental industry is regulated the better so this shit can't happen as easy as it can.

FWIW I think expecting a professional clean is too much on move out for anyone. But a deep clean, by the occupant, is sufficient.

I wouldn't bother with more than a cursory clean because I always get stiffed for the price and honestly it's not worth breaking my back or paying someone else to do it when they're just going to charge for it anyway.

Are you suggesting that the landlord has no right to sell his own property? Or that you shouldn't have to clean a rented property properly if it's being sold? Either way you are being massively unreasonable.

Well you could look at it as the landlord generously ensuring the tenant hasn't been homeless while they lived there but that's bollocks too. It's a financial relationship. Money for housing. Not an emotional or parental one.

The issue is actually the progressive monetisation of housing for decades. That's why we're in the shit we're in. Convenient for the establishment for landlords to blame tenants and vice versa, rather than working out the structural issues involved.
