To think baths are completely overrated

Single parent and my children are with their father this weekend.

I’ve worked flat out all day on laundry, chores, admin. Thought I’d have a bath as a treat. Usually I love a long scalding shower. However I’ve got a bad back and thought that soaking in a bath with my book would be perfect.

Wrong.

I’d forgotten I don’t enjoy baths!
It’s lovely and warm for first five mins but I can’t stand the temperature gradually dropping. And so begins cycle of release of water, top up with hot water. Repeat. Repeat. But never really warm enough, or nor beyond a few minutes.

So many, especially women, love.

What am I missing?!

I agree with you, I hate baths. It's showers all the way for me.

Bobbycat121 · 23/02/2019 16:05

I hate baths. But I dont have a shower so I tolerate them!

dementedpixie · 23/02/2019 16:06

I only have one when I want to shave my legs as I find it more awkward to do them in the shower

FlowerInTime · 23/02/2019 16:07

I agree, for me showers are much nicer. I just had my bath removed for a larger shower as I never used it.

whatswithtodaytoday · 23/02/2019 16:07

Make it almost intolerably hot to begin with, and have lots of bubbles as they keep you warm too.

It was very very hot when I got in! Practically scalding
Temperature falls so quickly

I can’t understand how the water is cooling that quick unless you don’t have it hot enough to begin with?

VanillaBlossom · 23/02/2019 16:09

I love a bath...sheer bliss!

Angie169 · 23/02/2019 16:11

I have insulated my bath by pulling the side panel off and stuffing the space with loft insulation it makes a huge difference , it only cost about £20 well worth it .

I listen to the radio and if I am feeling indulgent light a few candles too.
I love my bath.

Mmmmbrekkie · 23/02/2019 16:11

It does
As I say I like scalding showers
So I like when I get in to bath
But when begins to fall, I begin to detest.
It doesn’t take a scalding cup of tea to go from extremely hot to a temperature that can actually be ingested after all

I haven't had a bath in about 10 years. I hate them. Showers all the way.

Micom · 23/02/2019 16:12

I love baths! I've stay in for ages too.

ElspethFlashman · 23/02/2019 16:12

I force myself to "enjoy" a bath every few weeks. I always regret it.

The temperature faffing is a massive pain in the arse. Get it too hot, and you go all red faced and dizzy. But get it too cool and you spend half the bath topping it up with hot water.

The bubbles dissappear very quickly, leaving your body all magnified and ubatteactively bloated under the water like a pink walrus. Your toes stick out and get cold and if you submerge them, your knees stick out and get cold.

Where do you put your elbows?? Under the water and your hands aren't high enough to hold book/kindle/phone. But elbows out mean perching them painfully on the edge of the bath.

Oh and once you get into the bath, all ready for RELAXATION TIME!, you realise you've left something essential on the sink at the other side of the room and have to haul your dripping massive body across the room splashing everything.

Baths make me feel a) huge and b) incompetent.

Why do I keep trying? Whyyyyyy???!

ScreamingValenta · 23/02/2019 16:13

YABVVVVVU.

I love baths.

AlaskanOilBaron · 23/02/2019 16:13

Hate baths.

I also get a bladder infection just walking by one.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 23/02/2019 16:13

I don't like baths. You're sitting in your own, rapidly cooling, wet muck.

EnglishRose13 · 23/02/2019 16:13

Scalding water.
Bubbles.
Cup of tea.
Book/Netflix on the laptop.
An hour to myself.

Absolutely perfect.

LtGreggs · 23/02/2019 16:14

I invariably get in the bath, look at the bathroom from a new angle & notice all the bits that need cleaning (that you don't see when standing up beside the bath). Grime behind particular bit of tap etc. Much prefer a shower!

sockportal · 23/02/2019 16:15

@Angie169 I originally read you post as "I have insulted my bath." I thought to myself what good will calling your bath names do?! 😂 should have gone to specsavers

PuppyMonkey · 23/02/2019 16:17

I always like the “idea” of having a bath much more than the actual experience of having a bath. When I have a bath I last about ten mins before I’m bored and want to get out and do something else.

Amfeelingfline · 23/02/2019 16:17

I love baths, bubbles, salts, take my iPad and/or phone... bliss, only issue is I have a very small bathroom, 3 youngish kids and a partner who has a massive bladder but needs to pee all the time so before I know it, it’s Leicester Square in there and I spend half the time telling everyone to get out!!! 😂 think i’ll have one later on though 😁

IWantToUseAnApostrophy · 23/02/2019 16:19

Haye baths. Can't remember the last one I had. Ripped it out when I got a new bathroom. Love my new shower

IWantToUseAnApostrophy · 23/02/2019 16:20

Grrr *hate not haye!

PlatypusPie · 23/02/2019 16:22

Agree, OP. I used to love a nice soaking bath, candles lit, lovely bubbles. I can get in one now ( especially if we are in a nice hotel ) and enjoy it for about a minute before I get bored and just want to wash and get out ! We were upgraded to a ridiculous suite in a hotel recently, which had an enormous corner bath - spent ages filling it up, getting the bubbles right and immersed myself to admire the view across the city. Managed 5 minutes, to the bemusement of my DH.

ALongHardWinter · 23/02/2019 16:33

I hate baths,it's showers all the way for me. I can't understand the point of laying and wallowing in dirty water.
