To think baths are completely overrated

Single parent and my children are with their father this weekend.

I’ve worked flat out all day on laundry, chores, admin. Thought I’d have a bath as a treat. Usually I love a long scalding shower. However I’ve got a bad back and thought that soaking in a bath with my book would be perfect.

Wrong.

I’d forgotten I don’t enjoy baths!
It’s lovely and warm for first five mins but I can’t stand the temperature gradually dropping. And so begins cycle of release of water, top up with hot water. Repeat. Repeat. But never really warm enough, or nor beyond a few minutes.

So many, especially women, love.

What am I missing?!

I'm with musical and llangennith. We got rid if the bath a couple of years ago and I occasionally miss it bit it's the idea of the bath rather than the actuality. Much prefer the ease of the shower

Glitterblue · 23/02/2019 19:59

I love a bath. We have a little table that we use at the side of the bath so I put my tablet on that on a stand, and a cup of tea or glass of wine. If I get the temperature exactly right the bath doesn't go cold, I rarely have to top it up. We have a mixer tap so it's easy to get it right and I usually get in soon after I start running it so I can keep an eye on the temperature. I don't get the whole lying in your own filth thing, I shower every morning so I don't every feel dirty.....

Zoflorabore · 23/02/2019 20:00

Hate them so much. Until 18 months ago we only had a bath so had little choice and had one daily but it wasn't a long soak type bath, just a quick in, wash bits and bobs and out.
Then we got an amazing shower and I've had one bath since. It was my birthday last month and I went to Lush and bought some nice stuff and as I have fibromyalgia I though that it would be nice to lay in hot water for my back pain. I was back out in 5 minutes feeling horrible and then had a shower.
One thing I can't stand is Soap and Glory. Those FB posts where someone says that they're having a lovely long soak with their S and G products. Why would you say that?

I can't imagine putting on FB that I'm going for a shower with my bottle of Badedas Grin
Dd (8) likes play baths where she takes all of her dolls in and washes their hair. That's the extent of our bath use these days.

Hiddenaspie1973 · 23/02/2019 20:01

I love the bath. A hot, bubbly bath whilst listening to (and murdering) all my favourite songs is the only way I can relax.

ifoundthebread · 23/02/2019 20:02

In my first house we only had a bath, worst year of my adult life 😂...... My dp used to be like you, so he would leave the hot water on but not full flow so as the bath would fill it would go out the over flow but stay warm constantly

sideorderofchips · 23/02/2019 20:03

Disagree.

In the bath with a glass of red wine.

Amazing

Namechangedbecauseiwantto · 23/02/2019 20:06

Ooh I love a detox bath. Very hot bath, with lots of Epsom salts, and some lavender. Lie in it for 1/2 hr before bed, it's very good for you.

LunafortJest · 23/02/2019 20:06

Baths are disgusting, you don't get thoroughly clean as you were sitting in your own dirty water before getting out. A shower thoroughly removes all the dirty water and suds. Showers are much more hygienic. If I ever have a bath, I have to rinse myself off under the shower head before getting out, otherwise you have the dirty water still on you, so why bother having a bath at all since you are not getting totally clean?

caringcarer · 23/02/2019 20:07

If i am going to bath i always shower first to clean myself, then after a soak as water cools, i have hot shower to end. I generally prefer to shower as hate waiting for bath to run.

Poppins2016 · 23/02/2019 20:09

@Angie169, that's a brilliant idea. I'll have to give that a go!

I love baths.

YNBU · 23/02/2019 20:10

And they are so uncomfortable. I much prefer a good hot shower then snuggling under my favourite blanket on the sofa with a book.

tor8181 · 23/02/2019 20:14

we only have a bath so have no choice in the matter

Goodadvice1980 · 23/02/2019 20:15

Anyone else thinking about the scene in Friends where Chandler says he hates baths!!

EBearhug · 23/02/2019 20:24

I love being in water, whether it's swimming or a bath. A good shower (decent pressure and temperature) is also great, but a relaxing soak in the bath, just letting thoughts drift, that's best.

Was at a hotel in Windsor recently - we could have almost swum lengths in the bath, it was huge. Great shower, too.

wishingforalotterywin · 23/02/2019 20:31

My boobs float and are therefore always freezing no matter how warm the bath

ElspethFlashman · 23/02/2019 20:35

Hot face cloth over the boobs. Its the only way you don't get shivery nips.

.......Which is another reason I hate baths......Angry

Samind · 23/02/2019 20:37

A bath once for a treat when it's a cold to your bones sort of winter evening. Everyday is a shower day. Feel sweaty and getting out a bath. Would nearly need a shower to feel clean again 😂😂

TheShoeLady · 23/02/2019 20:39

YABU
You’re obviously not doing it right! Cup of tea, good book and all the bubbles. Can’t beat a nice bath Grin

To think baths are completely overrated
JaneJeffer · 23/02/2019 20:41

Don't like baths. They make me feel claustrophobic.

CallMeSirShotsFired · 23/02/2019 20:41

It all just feels so twee.

Bubbles, tea, wine, candles etc. So...twee. Like the flake girl or something.
(and who the fuck can make a cup of tea last an hour anyway?!)

if you want to snuggle in comfort with a book, why not just get in bed for an hour? No chance of dropping anything in the water, no temperature changes, no pruney figures, no waste of gallons and gallons of water....

LaurieMarlow · 23/02/2019 20:43

God I love baths. Bubbles, glass of wine, good magazine, absolute bliss.

As for the ‘wallowing in filth’ types, just how dirty are you? Must people shower/bath daily, don’t they?

LaurieMarlow · 23/02/2019 20:45

So...twee. Like the flake girl or something.

I actually don’t understand your point at all.

Do you know what the word twee means? The flake girl what now?

JaneJeffer · 23/02/2019 20:47

The flake girl what now?
You're obviously a youngster Grin

LunafortJest · 23/02/2019 20:49

What does the word twee mean anyway? It sounds like such a stupid and immature word.

MollysLips · 23/02/2019 21:02

@Angie169

I have insulated my bath by pulling the side panel off and stuffing the space with loft insulation it makes a huge difference , it only cost about £20 well worth it .

This is genius! I never would have thought of this. Did you do it yourself? How? I really want to do this. Any info would be fab - thanks!
