To think baths are completely overrated

Single parent and my children are with their father this weekend.

I’ve worked flat out all day on laundry, chores, admin. Thought I’d have a bath as a treat. Usually I love a long scalding shower. However I’ve got a bad back and thought that soaking in a bath with my book would be perfect.

Wrong.

I’d forgotten I don’t enjoy baths!
It’s lovely and warm for first five mins but I can’t stand the temperature gradually dropping. And so begins cycle of release of water, top up with hot water. Repeat. Repeat. But never really warm enough, or nor beyond a few minutes.

So many, especially women, love.

What am I missing?!

@chillpizza Fair enough. I'd probably feel cleaner after a shower too.

greenelephantscarf · 23/02/2019 18:06

I have eczema, so need a shower after bath to rinse off.

WhatAQuandry · 23/02/2019 18:15

Bubbles, candles, wine... can't do that in a shower!

Babdoc · 23/02/2019 18:16

I love my bath. When I was working full time and a widowed single parent to 2 DC, I never had time for one- it was always a mad rush into the shower in the morning.
Now I’m retired and the DC have grown up and left, I have a nice lie in past 8 o clock, a leisurely bowl of porridge, then go and wallow in a lovely hot bath for a good half hour.
I don’t understand how PPs baths are going cold so quickly - mine is very heat retaining. It’s wonderfully relaxing for old bones and aching muscles, especially in the gardening season! My shower is utterly unused - I just pop in to dust it if I have visitors coming.

Ragwort · 23/02/2019 18:19

Love baths, have one every night before bed .... but I don’t spend long inthe bath so the water doesn’t get cold.

Chickychoccyegg · 23/02/2019 18:20

i love my bath, can easily spend around 2 hours in there, reading or just messing about on my phone, with a glass of wine even better.
i hate bubbles and bath bombs or anything else slimy that people put in the bath though.

MulticolourMophead · 23/02/2019 18:27

I prefer showers, popping in and out and done. I'd rather then have my leisurely relaxing time by getting into clean pjs and curling up on the sofa.

AhFeck · 23/02/2019 18:27

You must be one of those mumsnetters who only lets their central heating go up to 10 degrees if your bath is going cold instantly Confused

I can spend at least an hour in the bath before I have to top it up and even then it is still very warm to touch. You need a glass of Prosecco, a fag, chocolate, a bath bomb and the iPad to get the full experienceGrin

Does anyone have a jacuzzi bath? I keep thinking that could be the key to enjoying baths.

Or are they even worse???

chillpizza · 23/02/2019 18:39

Jacuzzi baths are full of grime and dirt and I say that as a hot tub owner. The pipes on the baths just fill with scum. It’s horrible. Imagine the children’s bath toy that fillers with Water and has sat for a while. You squeeze and black crap shoots out. That’s an jacuzzi bath unless the pipe is cleaned after every use.

AnnieHawk · 23/02/2019 18:46

For medical reasons I won't bore everyone with, I haven't had a bath since 2010. Even prior to that I had them extremely infrequently and, if I'm honest, I don't miss them. If I want to get warm I fill a hot water bottle, make some cocoa and go and get into bed for a while - which means I can enjoy a bit of MN or Netflix.

fussychica · 23/02/2019 18:50

Agree with OP. Don't like baths at all. Only time I did was when I was pregnant.
In this property we replaced the bath with a full length shower. So good!

frothysloth · 23/02/2019 18:51

Yanbu

daisypond · 23/02/2019 18:52

I love baths. With showers there's always a bit of you that's not under the water, and you can't lie down or read a book.

lerrimknowyouretheyir · 23/02/2019 18:55

Agree. I had my first bath in about 3 years a few weeks ago. No desire to have another any time soon despite having a lovely rolltop back in my en-suite. Find them a bit boring and always have to have a shower after anyway to wash my hair.

woollyheart · 23/02/2019 18:56

With jacuzzi baths, there is the hygiene aspects that I wouldn't like as mentioned earlier. Plus they are much too noisy. No good for relaxing.

Caggie09 · 23/02/2019 18:56

I love a bath. One of the best things in life! I have different things to pop in the tub! Posh oils, cheap bubbles, bath bombs and bubble bars. Nothing beats a hot bubbly bath and diving into fresh warm bedding afterwards!💕

Jaxhog · 23/02/2019 18:57

I love both. I shower to get clean, but if I've been for a long walk outside in the brisk cold air, nothing beats a hot bath. But the water has to be really hot. It also has to be MY bath, which is wide and deep. Never use a hotel bath unless it's really, really cold outside. Hotel bath's are like bathing in a basin.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 23/02/2019 19:05

I love a bath. Really hot water, loads of bubbles or a bath bomb, cup of tea on the side and a book.

Musicalmistress · 23/02/2019 19:09

I love the idea of a bath...the reality, however, never lives up to my expectations!

ElspethFlashman · 23/02/2019 19:29

OK so jacussi baths are definitely out...... 🤮🤮🤮

Angie169 · 23/02/2019 19:36

I do love a bath ( as said in PP ) but sometimes i wish I had a shower , I dont think I would use it very often but it would be nice to be able to jump in one when i am in a rush .

poglets · 23/02/2019 19:38

I watched 'A Star is Born' in the bath today with wine.

Baths can be wonderful.

llangennith · 23/02/2019 19:39

Yes!

Ginny008 · 23/02/2019 19:52

I love my bathtub. I have a shower first to get clean then fill the bath as close to the top as I can with hot water and add essential oils (ginger and black pepper if I'm achy) add my neck pillow and ease myself in slowly, read my book and have soothing music on and relax. Aaahhh!!!
