To think baths are completely overrated

Single parent and my children are with their father this weekend.

I’ve worked flat out all day on laundry, chores, admin. Thought I’d have a bath as a treat. Usually I love a long scalding shower. However I’ve got a bad back and thought that soaking in a bath with my book would be perfect.

Wrong.

I’d forgotten I don’t enjoy baths!
It’s lovely and warm for first five mins but I can’t stand the temperature gradually dropping. And so begins cycle of release of water, top up with hot water. Repeat. Repeat. But never really warm enough, or nor beyond a few minutes.

So many, especially women, love.

What am I missing?!

Oh FFS green, are you seriously suggesting people who have normal baths stink of B.O.? That is such utter nonsense.

B.O. is generally caused by not washing often enough, not washing clothes properly, or in some cases medical issues. It is not caused by someone washing themselves in 80 litres of water with a bit of soap.

The mind boggles.

KimchiLaLa · 24/02/2019 20:13

I always get too hot in mine and they're usually not more than 40 degrees. Only a few Celsius more than a baby's bath really. Maybe because I'm hypothyroid? I dunno.

Bravelurker · 24/02/2019 20:44

Absolutely English, I set up my tablet /wireless speaker /glass of wine /candle and shave my legs and soak my tired feet whilst watching my shows. I may even use a face mask - all things you can't really do in a shower. I only do this once a week and on the same day I change my bedding.

You don’t need to rinse after a bath
You really don’t
I’m shocked at peoples ignorance sometimes

RomanyQueen1 · 24/02/2019 21:22

You don't need to rinse after a bath. I do to make sure the soap has gone, not to get even cleaner than clean, if that's possible.
for me te blast of hot water after is lovely.
i look forward to my Bashower

LancashireTea · 24/02/2019 22:06

A bath can be the most wonderful thing in the world.
Happy? Have a bath and think happy thoughts with tea/ fizz
Cold? Have a bath and warm up with tea/ red wine
Sad? Have a bath and a cry and drink londis gin from the bottle and bitter lemon just me?

Showers are functional for getting clean, but a bath can be a real problem solver.

@LaurieMarlow I am stunned that you simply cannot comprehend what we are saying. You are, at the end before you get out of the tub, sitting IN the water that you used to wash in. It is contains your sweat, your secretions, your dead skin cells. FFS it is not rocket science that some of that dirty water residue will cling to your skin.

It is like washing a glass but not rinsing it, and leaving the detergent etc clinging to the insides of the glass.

Do you understand now? Or do you need it explained to you in another way, or another analogy? omg smh Confused

LaurieMarlow · 25/02/2019 09:48

Wow, defensive Shock

I don’t think you really understand how soap works.

So I’ll give you a v quick run down. Soap removes dirt from the body by combining with the oil from your skin that harbours dirt/germs etc that you’re so scared of.

The soap/oil emulsion doesn’t ‘stick’ to your skin in the way that the oil does. It’s on the bathtub and will be drained away with water.

It’s perfectly hygienic to bath without rinsing. It may not be what you want to do, you may have aesthetic issues with it, I couldn’t care less. But to brand bathing as filthy is idiotic.

LaurieMarlow · 25/02/2019 09:49

Sorry that should be ‘in the bath tub’

Sakura7 · 25/02/2019 09:51

Luna how dirty do you think the average person is?

As for the science, the soap/gel binds to the 'dirt' and removes it from the body. It's dissolved in 80+ litres of water. Unless you're covered in muck when you get in, you're not 'sitting in filth'.

ChuckyHereToPlay · 25/02/2019 15:07

I love baths, I find it so relaxing. I only have a couple a month but will spend up to 3 hours in there. I usually fall asleep as well, I don't mean to.

reallyanotherone · 25/02/2019 15:46

I don’t rinse after washing up either. Grin

DarlingNikita · 25/02/2019 15:50

YANBU. They're boring and not very comfortable –I'm quite bony and rather tall and they are too hard and too short for me to get really comfy.

Also, what do you do in there? I like the idea of reading in principle, but in reality I'd be too distracted by the cooling water and my wrinkling fingers. Same with the radio or music.

I haven't had one in years, but seem to remember just staring into space for a bit before admitting defeat and getting out.

Sakura7 · 25/02/2019 16:04

I listen to music or podcasts (Desert Island Discs is a good one).

woollyheart · 25/02/2019 17:20

My fingers don't wrinkle in the bath. Not unless I stay in there hours. They used to, but must have got used to bathing

I have a cup of tea, and magazines to read. Or DH on the bath with me and we chat.

userxx · 25/02/2019 19:29

@LancashireTea Londis gin? Is it any good?

LancashireTea · 25/02/2019 19:50

@userxx no, but it works Grin

userxx · 25/02/2019 20:15

👍😏. Sometimes, that's all that is needed.
