Pretty is the same as tall?

AIBU

My partners opinion is that describing someone as pretty is the same as saying short or tall and as factual as their hair colour.
I guess I don't see it that way.

He said pretty and being attracted to someone are too different things.

He was describing a 14 year old and said she is quite tall, glasses, round face, quite pretty.
I thought this was odd. He says not.

AIBU is it semantics?

I’m just not good with names. Once I googled her I knew exactly who she was, and I’ve watched several of her progs. (And I agree, she always has lovely jewellery and a nice smile) I remember historian Lucy thingummies name because she looks and sounds like my friend Lucy. I also really like the auburn haired lady who does those living in the past progs, but can’t remember her name either.
I’ve never seen TOWIE.

I just googled her to see all the images of her unwashed and dirty looking - thought I’d missed something!

If I were describing Mary Beard I would say Dame Mary Beard professor of classics at the university of Cambridge. If I were describing Piers I'd say that odious little twerp who used to be a journalist.

What a ridiculous reaction! You clearly have some issues that need addressing OP. I wouldn't have been remotely affected by the description of pretty although I do agree that it is subjective.

The word in itself doesn't denote attraction, for me Natalie Dormer is stunningly pretty but that doesn't mean that I fancy her.

And for anyone who thinks men can't be described as pretty, they should take a look at Ben Barnes in Dorian Gray Grin

I agree with him. He is talking about the symmetry in their face. I see kids all the time and think they are pretty. Similarly as a woman I can look at other women and think their pretty without any hint of attraction.
I also think their are pretty men I don’t find attractive.

Yep- it’s all about the Golden Ratio!
