To think everyone saying Shamima Begum should rot in Syria have completely overlooked the fact that she is pregnant

StepAwayFromGoogle · 14/02/2019 13:39

Just that really. She did a terrible thing going to Syria to marry an ISIS fighter. But she was only 15 and probably incredibly naive. She has already lost two children, one as a complication of malnutrition. And the child she is pregnant with has done nothing wrong. Surely we shouldn't leave him or her there to die too?

I’m not a fan of reporting either but neither will I sit on my hands when the playground mentality kicks in. Apologies if you don’t like that.

Back to the subject, that Specator piece is spot on.

brassbrass · 21/02/2019 13:24

Who is siding with SB though?

EveSaidWhat · 21/02/2019 13:26

I'm agreeing with you also, if you don't like comments though mnhq will delete. Telling others to lay off makes you look a bit silly that's all.

Alsohuman · 21/02/2019 13:27

OK, i’ll look “silly”, doesn’t bother me. Now about Begum ...

Xenia · 21/02/2019 13:28

MI6 also want these people kept out which is pretty compelling reason to keep them out. Both those who went out there to breed and those who went out there to fight for and with ISIS are a risk to the UK. I would rather they were stuck in Syria than here.

Italiangreyhound · 21/02/2019 13:30

I am not sure I feel any sympathy for her, she has put her parents through absolute hell. What she has done is utterly despicable. Having said all that I think she needs to stand trial for her actions, she needs to tell the government what she knows and I think her child deserves to grow up knowing the full story and not believing the British government kept him from knowing his mum.

"bertrand you are deluded if you think she's going to be brought back here to communicate with the government and explain all the ins and outs of her alleged grooming....and then engage with them to come up with plans to reduce it!!!!"

Why do you say that? Have you not heard of the poacher turned game keeper?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 21/02/2019 13:31

Ive got no problem keeping them out

Ive got a problem with letting 400 people in including men who actually went to FIGHT AS ADULTS and then the media going berserk over one women who went over there as a child

Unless its a new policy...which I'll bet its not

brassbrass · 21/02/2019 13:32

I disagree. Silly? Why? For calling out what she thinks is bullying? It's a public forum people are bound to disagree but going after one poster repeatedly ( calling her a man etc ) is making it a personal attack.

SmileEachDay · 21/02/2019 13:33

I would rather they were stuck in Syria than here

Why? Why are Syrian’s less worthy of protection than people in the UK?

IF we accept SB is a threat then why is it not the UKs responsibility to take her back and put her through the justice system?

Juells · 21/02/2019 13:36

calling her a man etc

Isn't it natural that posters will think you're a man if you use a male posting name? 😕

EveSaidWhat · 21/02/2019 13:37

'Ive got a problem with letting 400 people in including men who actually went to FIGHT AS ADULTS and then the media going berserk over one women who went over there as a child'

Exactly. I've rtft but can't see any stats how many people have had their citizenship revoked? Maybe it does happen frequently and we just don't hear about it.

Again, I've no sympathies with her at all and don't believe she is a victim of anything at 19yrs old but surely they have to follow some kind of policy regarding re entry to the UK?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 21/02/2019 13:37

What brassbrass said.....again

BertrandRussell · 21/02/2019 13:38

“bertrand you are deluded if you think she's going to be brought back here to communicate with the government and explain all the ins and outs of her alleged grooming....and then engage with them to come up with plans to reduce it!!!!"”
Possible but unlikely I’d say. But I imagine skilled interrogators would find lots of useful information about how she got where she is today. Knowledge is power, after all.

brassbrass · 21/02/2019 13:39

Ive got a problem with letting 400 people in including men who actually went to FIGHT AS ADULTS and then the media going berserk over one women who went over there as a child

Exactly this. Can you not see this is some other agenda being played out? It makes no sense at all, why is she being given so much airtime when we didn't hear a peep about the others?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 21/02/2019 13:39

Errm no

It’s disingenous to say that’s why BR was called a man on this thread.

SingleMumFighting · 21/02/2019 13:42

Can some please explain to me how her citizenship was revoked? Does it happen often? Why could she not be brought back and put on trial then jail?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 21/02/2019 13:44

Apparently 160 people have had their citizenship ship revoked since 2016

But that includes terrorists and criminals

brassbrass · 21/02/2019 13:44

Jeez how do you think the govt agencies like the CIA and MI6 have ever made any progress? What do you think they were doing in Guantanamo? Playing chess with inmates?

Xenia · 21/02/2019 13:45

It was revoked under the law - we can do that where people have two nationalities - and she does because her mother is bangladeshi.

It does happen from time to time.
Why should we hard working tax payers pay to bring her back and try her? That is not standard practice. if I murder in Australia and am caught out there Australia tries and jails me. She appears to have supported ISIS out there so is under the control of the jurisdiction running the camp.

BertrandRussell · 21/02/2019 13:47

And thank you anyone defending me. I don’t report attacks on me and i’d prefer it if other people didn’t either- i’d rather they stood. I’m used to personal attacks on here, and i’m used to people making stuff up about me- even though the assertion that I care more about this “Jihadi bride” than the victims of the Manchester bomber was a bit of a shock. But words on a screen.....

GirlsBlouse17 · 21/02/2019 13:47

Am happy for her not to be allowed back here but at the same time I'm not sure it's fair on Bangladesh for the UK to try and palm her off onto them

Juells · 21/02/2019 13:48

It’s disingenous to say that’s why BR was called a man on this thread.

I thought BR was a man, whenever I saw the poster on other threads, I don't think they were political, just general MN waffling threads.

time4chocolate · 21/02/2019 13:53

I believe I read somewhere yesterday that it was about 100 people who lost their citizenship.

I couldn't give a monkey's about her. She can stay and rot and all you bleeding hearts out there - it is that soft attitude that has landed us with all the shite that the UK is in at the moment - and Tony Blair and his right on wife - let them all come - houses, benefits whatever you want. Feel free to blow us up while you are living off us.
