There's a dog in my house

There's a Labrador in my house and I don't know where it's come from. DH appears to of left the back door unlocked by mistake, but it was shut? He's at work and knows nothing about it, I've just got home from work and I have acquired a dog. Collar but no ID tag. What is going on?! How did it get in?! Can labradors open and close doors? My little King Charles cavalier spaniel seems to think he's his new best friend so has obviously enjoyed this unplanned play date (thank god a friendly dog decided to break into my house and not an aggressive one) no idea how long this lab has been here but house has been empty besides our dog since 11am. Someone please tell me how this is possible. I'm baffled. Waiting for DH to get back with the car so I can get him to a vets before they all shut and see if he's chipped.

No help but I want a lab to pitch up randomly and think it’s my best friend!

Darkbaptism · 14/01/2019 17:00

Very odd!
I don’t suppose you have a dog walker who dropped another back along with your dog?

DoneLikeAKipper · 14/01/2019 17:00

Could you knock on neighbourhood doors whilst you wait? Or put a note on your door to say a dog has been found if anyone is looking around for the poor thing.

Freezby · 14/01/2019 17:01

@frankie001 He's lovely. Been waiting for DH for about an hour and a half and already don't want to return him. I'm just so confused how he got in here it doesn't seem possible.

The curious incident of the dog in the house.

Sorry, couldn’t resist. Hope you find his/her owner soon.

werideatdawn · 14/01/2019 17:01

Random new Lab is my dream scenario 😆
Hope he is chipped haha

BovrilOverkillOhMyInsides · 14/01/2019 17:01

It's almost comical.
Weird.

Celebelly · 14/01/2019 17:02

Maybe it's a witch or wizard who can shift into Labrador form.

I wish I came home to random doggos in my house. Hope you can find where he belongs! Maybe try local community FB page and contact local vet to get him scanned?

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 14/01/2019 17:02

I have no idea but this is an awesome thread to follow ;)

bengalcat · 14/01/2019 17:02

How sweet . Yes take it to a vet - it might have a microchip .

StandUpForYourRights · 14/01/2019 17:02

Have you got a lost lost pets group on fb, someone is probably desperately looking for them.

You could take him/her to local vets who will check for a chip

Nothingoriginalhere · 14/01/2019 17:02

Aw lovely, my lab can't open doors but our Airedale can - enjoy your visitor!

FangTasticBeast · 14/01/2019 17:03

Oh I’d love that

Freezby · 14/01/2019 17:04

Dog walker came at 12.30 and returned our dog at 1.30, he is insisting he has only returned one dog and didn't have a lab today. He has key for front door and I came back to it locked so he wouldn't of checked back door to see if unlocked., I keep trying to go into a different room and shut lab in another room to see if it can open and close doors.. but it just sits and waits for me to open the door. He's very well trained I hope my little terror is taking some tips

I can only imagine what fun the two of them have had today Smile

SoupDragon · 14/01/2019 17:04

As the owner of a spaniel with Houdini skills, I have had to walk round the neighbourhood calling him and listening for suspicious noises on many occasions. If you listen outside, someone might be along shortly.

cheesywotnots · 14/01/2019 17:05

Maybe the door was left slightly open and doggy pushed it, maybe it can open a door handle. I wish this sort of thing happened to me.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 14/01/2019 17:05

Ha, just to say I have a KC too and this would be his dream afternoon!

TooTrueToBeGood · 14/01/2019 17:06

Have you checked you haven't got a very confused blind person in one of your other rooms?

Freezby · 14/01/2019 17:06

Pic up on local Facebook page for over an hour, nothing yet. DH said he had a meeting then he'd come back but still not heard from him. Getting a bit worried as nearest vets is half hour away and no buses at this time (rural Wales)

Have you not seen The Secret Life of Pets?

Perfectly normal. He’s probably been popping round for chinwag with your dog for years.

Dragongirl10 · 14/01/2019 17:07

can we have a photo op??

squee123 · 14/01/2019 17:07

maybe a neighbour found it wandering and mistakenly thought it belonged to you so helpfully put it through the back door? Or someone wanted to dump it and thought you would take good care of it, in which case congratulations on your new dog.
