There's a dog in my house

There's a Labrador in my house and I don't know where it's come from. DH appears to of left the back door unlocked by mistake, but it was shut? He's at work and knows nothing about it, I've just got home from work and I have acquired a dog. Collar but no ID tag. What is going on?! How did it get in?! Can labradors open and close doors? My little King Charles cavalier spaniel seems to think he's his new best friend so has obviously enjoyed this unplanned play date (thank god a friendly dog decided to break into my house and not an aggressive one) no idea how long this lab has been here but house has been empty besides our dog since 11am. Someone please tell me how this is possible. I'm baffled. Waiting for DH to get back with the car so I can get him to a vets before they all shut and see if he's chipped.

This is brilliant 😂 I have once come home and found a pug asleep in my dogs crate....I own a beagle....turned out my dog walker had left the pug (as it was being lazy and refused to walk) while she took my dog out 😂😂😂

Imagine if you go to the vets and they can't find the owners ! You'd have to keep him! It's only polite 😁

You are living my dream! So jealous Envy

@Namechangeforthiscancershit Normally our boy is a lunatic until about 8pm and then just passes out, but he is snoring away on the sofa. Very tired out! I'm sure they've had a brilliant time Grin

@TooTrueToBeGood 😂😂😂

Babyroobs · 14/01/2019 17:08

Was there any available food around - Labs are notoriously greedy !

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 14/01/2019 17:09

How random! My ds would be over the moon to find a lab had moved itself in.

WatcherOfTheNight · 14/01/2019 17:10

How lucky that he found his way to you op !
We've a 6 year old lab who can open doors ,thankfully he loves us so stays put Grin

Any chance of a pic ??

Chapterandverse · 14/01/2019 17:11

I would love this to happen! Grin

Maelstrop · 14/01/2019 17:11

How very odd! I had a chow puppy turn up in the garden one day and was just taking him to get his chip scanned when his owner turned up with his twin! Couldn't bring him in the house due to mine being extremely DA.

Hope you find his owner soon.

Freezby · 14/01/2019 17:11

Going to go knock all neighbours.. no immediate ones but a few in the village so just going to take a walk. My king charles is passed out and refusing to come with so god knows what they've been up to all day for him to be this exhausted 😂

OMG, this is brilliant!

Please have my very first shameless placemark! Grin

Bluelonerose · 14/01/2019 17:12

Are you in the right house?

Ballbags · 14/01/2019 17:12

No advice, but we left our front door open during last summer's heatwave and I shit you not, one the first night a dog came in, second night a seagull waddled into the living room and third night a slow worm. Kept the door firmly shut after that.

GlassSuppers · 14/01/2019 17:13

I hope yours is a girl and he is a boy and you will have some very lovely puppies soon Grin

GobblersKnob · 14/01/2019 17:13

Oh this would make my day. Secretly hoping you get to keep him Wink

itbemay · 14/01/2019 17:14

HoraceCope · 14/01/2019 17:14

lucky you, love how this was the secret life of dogs :)

Sexnotgender · 14/01/2019 17:15

How bizarre! Sounds like your dog found a friend.

yawning801 · 14/01/2019 17:15

We need pictures ASAP!

mama1980 · 14/01/2019 17:15

Wow! I've had stray cats before but never a dog. I hope you can find out where he came from soon, hopefully he'll be microchipped.

Topseyt · 14/01/2019 17:15

Very odd. Do any of your near neighbours have labradors? Knock on their doors to ask whether all of their dogs are accounted for?

Are there any gaps in fencing where it could have got in?

Put the word out to as many neighbours as you can. The chances are that it is a local dog and someone might be looking for it.

You'll be doing the right thing getting a vet to scan for a microchip. Your local Animal Warden can too, although that would almost certainly have to wait until at least tomorrow as I think they work office hours.

You could call the police on 101 because people sometimes report missing dogs to them too.

MrsTommyBanks · 14/01/2019 17:16

I need to know what happens. I love labs.

Shamalamalam · 14/01/2019 17:16

My daughter came home from school last week and found a random Labrador in our garden. God knows how he got in there, the gate was locked.

He was lovely. We phoned the dog warden and they came and scanned him for a chip and took him home

LakieLady · 14/01/2019 17:16

My first Lakeland could open doors, but even he never went in anyone else's house.

What mystery. I wonder if he could have snuck out someone's car or van, and the owner didn't realise he'd gone? Clever to get in your house though.

I think it's lovely that the pair of them seem to be such pals. You'll have to keep him if you don't find the owner, your KC would miss him!

elephantinstripeysocks · 14/01/2019 17:17

awwww i hope nobody claims him and you can keep him
