I'll start.

Céline Dion - Fly

Bloody hell, what a song. I only just discovered it today. The feel of the song and the lyrics are out of this world. Truly amazing. And extremely comforting if you've been through a child loss. Listen if you have the time Thanks

On a lighter note, Let's here it for the boy - Deniece Williams Grin

I love Denice Williams - Too Much Too Little Too Late with Johnny Mathis is my go to karaoke effort.

Also I think the Specials are criminally underrated - Message to You Rudy and Ghost Town are awesome --better than the Clash--

ALittleCrisp · 12/01/2019 21:31

right No way! Message to you Rudy was added to my playlist last week Shock it's played a lot now.

I can't say I've ever attempted karaoke... I think I've missed out tbh

Hurts- Help is one that always resonates with me when I'm particularly depressed.

One of my favourites though is Mmmbop by Hanson. Actually really insightful if you listen to the lyrics, especially considering their ages when they wrote it.

Elflocks · 13/01/2019 13:38

I like Freckles by Natasha Bedingfield. Smile

Elflocks · 13/01/2019 20:55

I'be never really taken much notice of that Hanson song before. I like the lyrics a lot actually.

GrouchyKiwi · 13/01/2019 21:05

Fly is one of the songs I listen to when I need a cry.

I can't think of individual songs that are underrated, but I think there are plenty of artists who are because their genres are considered uncool. The Carpenters and ABBA had some beautiful, deep songs.

CoughLaughFart · 13/01/2019 21:10

I also love ‘Fly’.

‘Will You?’ by Hazel O’Connor is one that’s underrated in my eyes. It’s not exactly obscure, but hasn’t become an 80s classic in the way it should have. That sax solo! Ditto for ‘Duel’ by Propaganda and ‘I’m in Love With a German Film Star’ by The Passions.

InspectorIkmen · 13/01/2019 21:13

Ooh good thread!

'Total Control' by The Motels - SO good!

HildaZelda · 13/01/2019 21:13

Santana - Smooth
Chris Issak - Wicked Game

Laiste · 13/01/2019 21:14

There She Goes
by The La's

and

Rush Hour
by Jane Wiedlin

Namechangedforthis79 · 13/01/2019 21:15

Wicked game is a beautiful song.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 13/01/2019 21:19

Will You is wonderful. That angst of wanting yer man to stay. (Bob Dylan's One More Cup of Coffee is similar)

I love Duel by Propaganda! I read somewhere (possibly Stuart Maconie or Mark Radcliffe) that they considered it one of the best 80s popsongs.

I'll add: This is the Day by The The, Immaculate Fools by Immaculate Fools and Hymn by Ultravox.

CoughLaughFart · 13/01/2019 21:20

‘Martha’s Harbour’ by All About Eve. Simple and perfect. People remember the Top of the Pops disaster, but forget how beautiful the song is.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 13/01/2019 21:20

And When You Leave by OMD.

Not that I'm stuck in the 80s or anything!

HowDidYouDo · 13/01/2019 21:22

Drinkin’ by Holly Williams. It’s a country song, it’s beautiful and heartbreaking all at the same time.

thesnailandthewhale · 13/01/2019 21:25

Tougher Than the Rest - Bruce Springsteen
Don't Give Up - Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush

angelwithalariat · 13/01/2019 21:25

ok its not exactly an underrated song, but the best version of hallelujah is the k d lang one.
seriously. listen to it.
not saying your favourite isn't good but ...

nowifi · 13/01/2019 21:26

"Late in The Day" by Supergrass, such a beautiful song !

angelwithalariat · 13/01/2019 21:26

and i'm going to give a listen to everything on this thread.

angelwithalariat · 13/01/2019 21:27

except there she goes which i already love

QuitMoaning · 13/01/2019 21:27

I thought I was the only person who loved Hazel’s Will You.
Brings back some fantastic memories of my youth.

angelwithalariat · 13/01/2019 21:28

and german film star which ditto

CoperCabana · 13/01/2019 21:30

Like a Baby by Wham!
Seriously

CoperCabana · 13/01/2019 21:30

Agree with Will You. Total goosebumps.

NRPDad · 13/01/2019 21:30

Valerie by The Zutons

This is the original version and in my eyes far superior to Amy Winehouse's version which is played far more often.
