I'll start.

Céline Dion - Fly

Bloody hell, what a song. I only just discovered it today. The feel of the song and the lyrics are out of this world. Truly amazing. And extremely comforting if you've been through a child loss. Listen if you have the time Thanks

On a lighter note, Let's here it for the boy - Deniece Williams Grin

Oh and another is song called “Emily” by Stephen fretwell (don’t think he’s that well known but his song is the Gavin and Stacey theme tune)

ALittleCrisp · 13/01/2019 22:19

Thanks for everyone's contributions, I'll be listening to all of them!

Wires by Athlete. Any preemie mum will know Just listened. Was that played for the Great Ormond street advert a few years ago? Good song.

I shall have to add a few more of my faves that I think are seriously underrated -

Glory Days - Bruce Springsteen. I can't really explain why, but it makes me cry bitter sweet happy tears.

Goody Two Shoes - Adam Ant. I just love it. So catchy. It makes me want to do a gymnastics routine Grin

Sussudio - Phil Collins. Just a great song!

When I think of you - Janet Jackson.

In Dulci Jubilo - Mike Oldfield. It's a Christmas song, and I love it.

The First Time I ever saw your face - George Michael version. Simply stunning

Fade into you by Mazzy Starr (sp) also.

nowifi · 13/01/2019 22:19

Yes laiste to The The - Uncertain Smile it’s a huge favourite of mine.

Glitterball by Elbow
Pineapple Head by Crowded House
Please Please Let Me Get What I Want by The Smiths

IamFrauBlucher · 13/01/2019 22:21

@sunsalutations Polk Salad Annie is a bloody great song. GrinI'm sure it has rude connotations as most of those blues lyrics did. But that makes it even better. GrinGrinGrin

MondeoFan · 13/01/2019 22:22

I'm on fire - Bruce Springsteen

Heart - Pet Shop Boys

The Killing Moon - Echo & The Bunnymen

Anything on the album Disintegration- The Cure

alibongo5 · 13/01/2019 22:24

Ooh Bruce Springsteen - the one I love is The River (don't know if it's underrated but you don't hear it played much compared to Born in the USA and Born to Run). Also Sherry Darling - it's such a happy, singalong song that I love to murder at the top of my voice. Seems even better in the summer with the hood of my car down somehow!

alibongo5 · 13/01/2019 22:26

@alittlecrisp - I think you need to create a Spotify playlist of all of these and make it public so that we can all listen to it. Please?

alibongo5 · 13/01/2019 22:26

Sorry that should have been @ALittleCrisp

Hedgehogblues · 13/01/2019 22:27

Oh and another is song called “Emily” by Stephen fretwell

Oooh! I remember the first time I heard that. It gave me goosebumps!

MawkishTwaddle · 13/01/2019 22:27

Ooh, I’ve thought of more.

Motherland by Natalie Merchant.
Love Is Everything by Jane Siberry.
Killermont Street by Aztec Camera.
Just Like Fred Astaire by James.
A Minor Incident by Badly Drawn Boy.

Em308 · 13/01/2019 22:27

Making Out by Mark Owen, incredibly evocative song for me.

MawkishTwaddle · 13/01/2019 22:28

Tenth Avenue Freeze Out
Racing In The Street
Badlands

All completely brilliant but seldom heard Bruce Springsteen songs.

IamFrauBlucher · 13/01/2019 22:29

Tell me what you need - Jimmy Ruffin

Such an upbeat song that makes me feel a bit jealous of the lady he's singing too about giving her everything she wants.

Bernadette by the Four Tops. Such a passionate and urgent voice, like so many of the songs by the Four Topd

Tear you apart - She Wants revenge
Gimme your Love - Morcheeba

Those two are just pure sex

Spring to Come - John Butler Trio, totally uplifting when you are feeling down.

Threehoursfromhome · 13/01/2019 22:29

Thomas Dolby - Close But No Cigar

Briefly played in 1992; never heard again.

MawkishTwaddle · 13/01/2019 22:29

Allentown by Billy Joel.

ddodprob · 13/01/2019 22:30

@mawkish - lol we really do have the same taste

ddodprob · 13/01/2019 22:31

@hedgehogblues - it’s just gorgeous isn’t it-

trooth · 13/01/2019 22:32

@thefourgp hear you me is a beautiful song. I have always loved it.

Transatlanticism by Death Cab For Cutie. It makes me think of my Dad. We had a lot of issues but he died last year.
"The rhythm of my footsteps crossing flatlands to your door have been silenced forever more.
The distance is quite simply much too far for me to row; it seems farther than ever before"

MawkishTwaddle · 13/01/2019 22:33

ddodprob I’m going to check out that Stephen Fretwell song you recommended!

Laiste · 13/01/2019 22:33

Oh Threehoursfromhome, Thomas Dolby!

Wind Power. I'd forgotten all about that.

fruityb · 13/01/2019 22:34

Another for Rush Hour - love it.

Lean on me - Red Box. From the very very young to the very very old - can’t resist it.

Walk the Dinosaur

Tarzan Boy.
