To be unhappy to see dogs in the garden

I walk along a local sustrans route, there is a newbuild estate, lovey houses built on the site of an old farm, and a couple lovely springers.
I dont like seeing them loose in their garden:
they look like they want to go for a lovely walk,
they might be stolen
they look abandoned
They might take off of their own accord.

Is the garden fully enclosed? If no, then YANBU. If yes, then YABU. Maybe the dogs like being outside. My Newfie pup does, especially when it's windy and cold. She'll stand outside in the wind, enjoying the feeling of it moving her hair about. And when it's frosty she likes to sleep on the icy grass.

It's good for dogs to be outside, if they're in a fully-enclosed garden.

HoraceCope · 08/01/2019 09:01

I can't tell

Unless you see them 24 hours a day how could you reach the conclusion that they look abandoned? Dogs love being outside. If they're in an enclosed garden surely that's the perfect place for an active dog? As long as they can come in when they want to.

YepImafraidIchangeditagain · 08/01/2019 09:03

Do you go past at the same time every day?
Could just be that that's the time that get let out for a bit or fresh air and may get walk later?
Do they look unhealthy, underfed etc?

babysharkah · 08/01/2019 09:03

Hi that's some jumping to conclusions there when you don't know anything at all!

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 08/01/2019 09:05

My sil lets her dogs out every day in the garden at all times - they stand at the back door & bark when they want to go out. They are also walked twice a day!

LL83 · 08/01/2019 09:05

I would assume they also get walks and garden time is extra because the dogs enjoy it.

tryinganewname · 08/01/2019 09:06

My dog would stay outside all day if I let him, in all weathers!

You can't possibly know that they're outside all day long & against their will.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 08/01/2019 09:06

Yabu and judging on something you don’t know anything about. My 2 terriers stay outside in the garden is f I pop out as they hate to be stuck indoors (they do have proper heated shelter if needed). They can run around, dig and play rather than being stuck indoors. Maybe the two dogs you see are the same and walked regularly

BluthsFrozenBananas · 08/01/2019 09:07

My dog is currently out in the garden, it’s very much where she wants to be. The back door is open so she can come in if she wants, but she loves to be outside. If the dogs are safely enclosed in the garden and have the means to get inside if the want then it’s fine for them to be out.

Andjustlikethat · 08/01/2019 09:09

Hmm is this a serious post? Dogs like to pootle around in their gardens. Ours goes on a cat sniffing hunt, can spend ages out there and then barks at the back door when they require me to open it and let them in.

HoraceCope · 08/01/2019 09:10

no i dont go by at the same time every day at all

GalacticChickenShit · 08/01/2019 09:12

Jeez.
Nothing to suggest the dogs don't get walked.

longwayoff · 08/01/2019 09:12

My dog would happily spend all day outside. I wouldn't recommend anyone trying to steal him - or 'rescue' him - and I hope my neighbours would attend to their own concerns unless he appeared badly treated and neglected.

YepImafraidIchangeditagain · 08/01/2019 09:13

So...do they look malnourished or massively overfed? In distress? Dirty? Scratching at a closed door?

Yearinyearout · 08/01/2019 09:13

What a daft post 😂 My dog loves being in the garden, she pesters the life out of me to be let out. This is on top of getting amazing long walks through woods/on the common/along the river/having play dates with other dogs.

HoraceCope · 08/01/2019 09:15

did no one actually read what i wrote? Hmm
nope, you have all just decided from my thread title

Some dogs much prefer being outside. If the garden is fully enclosed then yabu. If the have a shelter and water then yabu. How do you know they don't have access to the house or a kennel outside? I have a Springer. He would probably quite happily spend the full day outside.

HoraceCope · 08/01/2019 09:16

I am not sure if it is fully enclosed, I did say, to me it looks quite open

OP posts:
Drogosnextwife · 08/01/2019 09:16

How do you know they are not being walked?

HoraceCope · 08/01/2019 09:16

I didnt say they are not being walked.

Yabu. Have you ever had a dog op?

HoraceCope · 08/01/2019 09:17

er, yes, I happen to be walking along the sustrans route

OP posts:
HoraceCope · 08/01/2019 09:18

oh yes, with my dog

YepImafraidIchangeditagain · 08/01/2019 09:18

You are worried they might get out or get stolen- but they haven't yet and I'm sure their owners don't want them to be and have put things in place to stop that happening.

If they look healthy, I suggest you just walk on by.
