To be unhappy to see dogs in the garden

I walk along a local sustrans route, there is a newbuild estate, lovey houses built on the site of an old farm, and a couple lovely springers.
I dont like seeing them loose in their garden:
they look like they want to go for a lovely walk,
they might be stolen
they look abandoned
They might take off of their own accord.

Anyone else curious about the 'sustrans' route? It's been mentionedtwice now, typo or an actual thing I've never heard of?

Op you really are talking nonsense btw.

Lovemusic33 · 08/01/2019 09:40

Springers often live outside if they are working dogs.

strawberrisc · 08/01/2019 09:40

We back onto a footpath so he does bark at passers by to warn them of said squirrels too

How lovely for your neighbours.

GalacticChickenShit · 08/01/2019 09:40

Despite what Facebook feeds would have you believe, the world is not filled with people who want to steal dogs.

InAPreviousLife · 08/01/2019 09:41

Dogs who want to go for a walk will bloody well go for one if the garden isn't secure. One of ours even managed to learn how to get onto the garage roof then play doggy parkour going from roof to roof down the street until he reached one close enough to the floor to jump down.

It's a shame this was before the days of mobile phones or he'd have been a You Tube star.

If the dogs aren't looking malnourished or uncared for they are probably happy they have a sane owner that lets them play outside.

If they aren't looking cared for then you call the RSPCA.

A dog isn't a baby, they are allowed to play unsupervised in their own garden.

ChrisjenAvasarala · 08/01/2019 09:41

There are some insane people on this site.

Dogs in the garden? Seriously? I have a dog flap in my back door; my dogs are always out there playing around. They still get taken on walks, they still get fed and cleaned and cuddles... But they love being outside.

Should the owner lock them up in the house for 22 hours a day and only have them outside when they get a long walk?

You're typing in half sentences with no information. Explain your concern in full sentences which contain your concern and the reason for that concern.

My dog spends a lot of time in our garden he loves it

HoraceCope · 08/01/2019 09:42

Unless they look weally weally sad at getting fresh air in an enclosed space and you think you might be able to just hop over the fence and 'rescue' them, aye OP?

Then you can take the for loads of lovely walks!

Andjustlikethat

Sustrans is a cycle route network, short for sustainable transport, I think.

ChrisjenAvasarala · 08/01/2019 09:43

If someone is stolen the dogs, then they'd be kept inside.

How on earth do you connect 'dogs playing in garden' with 'those dogs must be stolen'.

Are your dogs kept indoors? Do you not understand that most people let their dogs out to play?

wheneverythinggoestitsup · 08/01/2019 09:44

What a very weird thread!
My dog loves the garden - if we go out and he's left at home he has indoor access to our utility room, but he mainly just stays outside chasing the birds and what not. It's enclosed.

In answer to your question... YES YABU

HulksPurplePanties · 08/01/2019 09:45

But the big question is, do the dogs go trip trapping over bridges? Wink

strawberrisc · 08/01/2019 09:46

Let them. I dog-sit on a rota for about 10 dogs. I'd have one of my own if I could. However, I also live in a cul-de-sac of dogs that bark continuously while their owners are a) at work and/or b) never walk them. When I dog sit the dogs don't need to go into the yard (except first thing in the morning for a wee). I walk them all the time. I adore dogs. What I don't adore is the 'yap yap yap' all day long from people who can't be bothered looking after them properly. When I was ill recently I couldn't sleep for the noise and it's not fair on dogs to be turfed into a garden all day to bark. Chances are, if they're barking they're not being exercised enough. The dogs I sit/walk have a long sleep when they get in then I walk them again.

HoraceCope · 08/01/2019 09:46

aw well i will continue to be concerned for dog's welfare, that of being stolen/abandoned, and wishing to run away, but I wont worry mumsnet with my thoughts, insane as they are

I think in this case...they do.

Kahlua4me · 08/01/2019 09:47

strawberrisc I meant it as a joke, he only occasionally barks at passers by and we don’t have any neighbours to be disturbed 😊

YepImafraidIchangeditagain · 08/01/2019 09:47

and wishing to run away,

That's okay! It's different in my road. They are two terriers who run to the end of their garden (next to a manky shed that's meant to be their kennel) and they bark all day at passers-by and dogs in the cut through. I live in a built up area and I just think it's unfair that we have to put up with that noise. I was recently ill and I couldn't sleep because their barking is shrill and constant. From 4AM!

Andjustlikethat · 08/01/2019 09:50

Yep that made me snort too. Not sure ours has enough energy to consider running away when I won't give her treats on demand 😂

Thanks User I've learnt something new today!

longwayoff · 08/01/2019 09:51

Ohhhh. And it's not even 10am yet.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 08/01/2019 09:51

“Nurse.”

HoraceCope · 08/01/2019 09:51

dogs do run away, dont you know? they might come back, or they might get run over/be stolen.
but you all carry on

YepImafraidIchangeditagain · 08/01/2019 09:52

That must be what's happened!

It was my dogs birthday recently, at the end of the party, and during the obligatory candle blowing, he shared his wish with me. (Because you mustn't have secrets from your mum)
He said he wished he could run away, just occasionally because I let him out to play in the garden too often!!!
He said there's a lady who creeps down the lane to talk to him, she passes chicken through the fence (he prefers salmon but chicken will suffice) and she has promised him a world of wonder and lovely walks.
