To think it's not fair transwomen get hair removal on the NHS but women with PCOS don't?! **Title edited by MNHQ**

This is quite frankly bullshit.

Trans want sympathy from real women (I can't bring myself to use the c word) but wont' give it back

theOtherPamAyres · 03/01/2019 17:49

@janetthom

Are you aware of the prevalence of suicide and mental health issues in this group

Do you have any evidence for saying that?

The Tavistock Gender Identity Clinic says the opposite: suicide is very rare. The surveys that produced false suicide statistics (the School Report by Stonewall, and the Rare Research Report) have been debunked - but people (like you?) keep repeating the myths and lies.

Keep up!

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 03/01/2019 17:50

janet

There has been one trans suicide in the last few years if I remember correctly

Would be interested in seeing what actual figures you may have apart from the usually quoted 48% which is never backed up by provable facts

Jenny17 · 03/01/2019 17:50

who’ve already been invalidated and silenced

When did that happen? Or are you really talking about biological women?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 03/01/2019 17:51

Or more concisely...what pamayres said

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 03/01/2019 17:51

Excess hair can be embarrassing and horrible. It's removal shouldn't be paid for on the NHS though - for anyone. We need to pay for that ourselves. Too much pressure is being out on the NHS for non essentials.

Slothslothsloth · 03/01/2019 17:51

I am gender critical and have plenty of problems with current trans ideology, but I think BOTH trans people and women with PCOS should get NHS hair removal. It’s unfair that only trans people get it now, yes, but taking it away from them wouldn’t give it to PCOS sufferers.

MorningsEleven · 03/01/2019 17:51

"Transgenders"? YABU for that turn of phrase alone

I wholeheartedly agree.

This is a typical MN race to the bottom with a bit of trans bashing for good measure.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 03/01/2019 17:52

This post is not intended to spark informed debate

You are not wrong there

PlatypusPie · 03/01/2019 17:52

Because the growing of excessive facial hair hair in the female sufferers of PCOS is the result of a medical condition. They would not otherwise have this hair.

Facial and body hair in the male born is due to normal biological processes ie there has not been a medical problem or malfunction so performing hair removal is not answering a medical need.

Whether it should be funded in the second cases for psychological reasons is another matter.

Superpooper · 03/01/2019 17:57

If it’s available to one group it should be available to all (who medically need it.)

nailak · 03/01/2019 18:00

How do you define medical need?

How long does it take for a pcos diagnosis in comparison with transgender treatment

Superpooper · 03/01/2019 18:03

I don’t, the NHS/doctors should. What I mean, is hair growth happens to many women for non medical reasons. For example I trot off to get my upper lip waxed every few weeks. I don’t need the NHS to intervene. Women with PCOS should be able to access it if it is available to transwomen who have the same symptom. The symptom is being treated, not the cause - so anyone who has the symptom should get the treatment or no one should surely?

Augusta2012 · 03/01/2019 18:05

Don't be ridiculous. The NHS is short of money because of horrendous Tory cuts. The state of the government is to blame, not trans people.

Not true, the NHS has actually had its funding go up.

NOTthepinkranger · 03/01/2019 18:07

Augusta no it hasn’t it has cuts and then small amounts given back so it looks like there’s an increase

howrudeforme · 03/01/2019 18:09

Interesting. I have pcos - never knew hair removal available on nhs? Never heard of any pcos treatments either.

Augusta2012 · 03/01/2019 18:10

How long does it take for a pcos diagnosis in comparison with transgender treatment

Years and years and years. Usually if you present at a GP clinic with PCOS symptoms you’re told to put up and shut up and they won’t do anything until you want a baby.

Women are always sidelined and disregarded by health professionals while men get whatever they want. This is just another example of trans women cherry picking the bits of womanhood they want and not the inconvenient bits like losing male privilege.

TRAs also say that women with PCOS are not really women, we’re intersex. It’s just beyond offensive.

MumMumMumm · 03/01/2019 18:14

I remember feeling similarly angered that trans women are prescribed progesterone on the nhs whilst women having threatened miscarriages or at risk of having were often not given it despite there being evidence that Its beneficial.

No disrespect to trans women but if something is given on the nhs it should be given to all on the nhs, not just select groups of people.

LovesLaboursLost · 03/01/2019 18:15

So much buying in to the Tory austerity agenda on here. Does anyone really believe the fifth richest country in the world can’t afford to fund hair removal for people with medical issues causing excess hair? The UK can afford a full medical service, the fact the current government chooses not to fund it means nothing.

Hedgehogblues · 03/01/2019 18:18

None of the trans women I know have been able to get hair removal on the NHS but ok.

Cherries101 · 03/01/2019 18:20

I have PCOS. Laser hair removal isn’t a permanent solution. Only Metformin and support to combat the minor thyroid issues that cause PCOS can help with that. Yet you have to pay for a prescription.

McTufty · 03/01/2019 18:26

I disagree that it shouldn’t be available to trans women as it isn’t because of a medical condition - I can well understand it is important to their mental well being. However it is wrong if (and I don’t know if it is the case) it is available to trans women and not natal women.

BarbarianMum · 03/01/2019 18:29

You don't need to be a tory to think the NHS isnt fit for purpose and that perpetually pumping more money in with never a murmur is the answer.

sackrifice · 03/01/2019 18:34

Was unaware about Samaritans asking that. Will look up reasoning behinnd. I was only told of this fact recently and was shocked. Why are people not listening? What do trans people say about it themselves (trotting out the suicide line as you call it)

A - it's a lie
B - it's not true so you are shocked because whoever told you wanted you to be shocked.
C - it's a lie
D - why not use the information about it not being true to work that out?

Augusta2012 · 03/01/2019 18:38

Augusta no it hasn’t it has cuts and then small amounts given back so it looks like there’s an increase

That is absolutely and utterly untrue. Anybody can find the figures quite easily. Funding has been increased in real terms and as a % of GDP. Loads of evidence to back that up.
