To think if you call you child such a ridiculous name

They will get mocked at some point.

The child in question is called Abcde, pronouced ab-city.

Whilst it was very unkind to do it so the child can hear, I think it is the most ridiculous name I have ever seen.

YANBU.

Caprisunorange · 29/11/2018 15:59

It’s not in this country though, so hard to say how ridiculous it is. But a professional representing a company shouldn’t have commented, no

ALemonyPea · 29/11/2018 15:59

That's a ridiculous name! It's not even a name though is it.

WorraLiberty · 29/11/2018 15:59

I know a boy named Living-Proof.

I have no idea why anyone would name a child that.

JacquesHammer · 29/11/2018 16:00

However ridiculous the name, an employee representing a company shouldn't have mocked a child's name.

GhostSauce · 29/11/2018 16:00

Poor child.

ChodeofChodeHall · 29/11/2018 16:12

Very unprofessional behaviour from the airline staff.

But the family do need to start getting used to this kind of pisstaking: it's a daft name and people can be mean.

ChodeofChodeHall · 29/11/2018 16:13

Not the most ridiculous name I've ever seen, though: there was a kid on Cbeebies birthdays the other day called Sonny Jim.

southnownorth · 29/11/2018 16:16

I don't mind the name Sonny actually Chodeo, it's when it's combined with Sonny Jim Grin

How do you get AB City out of it, I really don't understand?

southnownorth · 29/11/2018 16:20

How do you get AB City out of it, I really don't understand?

Exactly!

Sounds more like the local gym.

SpottingTheZebras · 29/11/2018 16:26

It’s not a name and I think the parents or whoever named her were being cruel as she will have a lifetime of bullying ahead of her unless she, understandably, changes her name.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 29/11/2018 16:33

Is her sibling called Fghij, pronounced Fig-Hidge?

TheFrendo · 29/11/2018 16:33

Unlike OB City, which is not a gym.

MoaningSickness · 29/11/2018 16:33

How do you get AB City out of it, I really don't understand?

They're American so 'city' is more like 'cidy'
Ab-c(i)d-e.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 29/11/2018 16:34

I can see how you get the pronunciation - abcde - ab-sid-ay. Still utterly ridiculous.

VeggyGravy · 29/11/2018 16:36

It doesn't really matter, it's not hard for grown ups, actual adults, to not mock a five year on social media or in front of her.

Bluerussian · 29/11/2018 16:36

YANBU - at all!

VeggyGravy · 29/11/2018 16:38

A Southwest Airlines gate agent at Orange County's John Wayne Airport posted a photo of a boarding pass on social media to mock a 5-year-old girl with a unique name, Abcde.

I do hope the person in question is sacked and they really should have their name out for everyone to know. Not fair on the child at all.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 29/11/2018 16:38

I knew an Alpha Bravo Charlie Delta - he called himself Pete!

PiperPublickOccurrences · 29/11/2018 16:40

If they were really wanting to be yoo-neek they should have spelled it Ab'siddaye.

spanishwife · 29/11/2018 16:41

@WorraLiberty How are you connected to 'Living-Proof'? I know there are some crazy names out there but always wonder how people know them

MissionItsPossible · 29/11/2018 16:42

It will be confusing for her when she begins to learn the alphabet. AbCity F G H I J K...

Horrible choice of name from the parent(s).

Theimpossiblegirl · 29/11/2018 16:47

Fig-Hidge Grin

I might call my next YABU pronounced Yahbuh.
