To be really angry my DD took my coffee on a weekend away, without asking?

I’m an early riser. I have sleep issues (wake up and can’t get back to sleep), so I follow a fairly strict sleep hygiene routine. That includes no caffeine after 10am. I also have digestion issues and diverticulitis so I need to be “regular”, which routine includes my morning coffee. I look forward to my lovely huge mug of coffee every morning. This morning, it’s gone. Extra large jar of Dow Egbert coffee is gone. Hard to miss a jar that size. My DD left last night for a weekend away with friends, renting a large self-catering house. Dare I suspect she’s the culprit? If so, AIBU to me REALLY angry with her? (FYI, looked in bin and recycling just in case accidentally broken - not there).

Yanbu! She's a cheeky mare. I would have put some in a tub for my dd to take if she has asked me. I have routines too and get annoyed when people do things to mess them up.

YeOldeTrout · 10/11/2018 10:47

Don't come between a woman and her coffee. :)
Do you have no tea bags in house to get a shot of caffeine?

pasturesgreen · 10/11/2018 10:49

Being "REALLY angry" about this seems way out of proportion, tbh. It's annoying, yes, but not the end of the world.

Sure, your DD should have asked before taking the coffee away with her, but it's a jar of coffee, not the bloody family silver.

Antigon · 10/11/2018 10:50

How old is she? Is she usually so thoughtless/selfish?

TheABC · 10/11/2018 10:50

That is annoying! You need to grab another tub and get DD to buy a replacement as the new emergency stash.

Raised mug cheers.

SaucyJack · 10/11/2018 10:53

YADNBU!

Taking the entire jar is really bloody rude and thoughtless.

JaiNotJay · 10/11/2018 10:53

Jesus, just have a cup of tea instead!

HarrietKettleWasHere · 10/11/2018 10:55

I don’t think we needed a huge backstory about why you have a coffee in the mornings.

Lots of people do Confused anyone would be pissed off to find their coffee gone.

It was selfish but you tell it like she’s stolen life saving medical treatment.

mummyinmanchester · 10/11/2018 10:59

Those people saying have a cup of tea do not get it!
I suffer from diverticulitis too OP (only I still drink coffee all day because I'm shamelessly addicted)
Tea is not the same. Not everyone likes tea.
YANBU.
Probably a bit late now but are there any breakfast places that deliver and also do coffee? I would 100 percent be happy to waste a tenner on a sub par fried breakfast to get the coffee on a day like this.
But I may be slightly irrational before my morning cup of loveliness GrinBrew

bert3400 · 10/11/2018 11:00

I wouldn't classify instant coffee as real coffee. I think your daughter did you a favour 😂

yorkshirepud44 · 10/11/2018 11:01

Yabu. Douwe Egberts is foul Grin

SalemBlackCat4 · 10/11/2018 11:03

Can't you just nick down to the store and get another one?

Urbanbeetler · 10/11/2018 11:04

I would be as cross as you in that situation. You can come on here and rant like everyone else- ignore those who scorn.

YeOldeTrout · 10/11/2018 11:06

Only 2 of us suggested tea as OP seems to need the caffeine. Without caffeine, coffee doesn't have particular laxative properties as far as I know. Caffeine pills might do for OP, too.

I like tea. I quite loathe coffee. I'd cry if I was forced to drink coffee every morning to deal with some health problem. But I could choke coffee down as a one off, if that's what I needed to be comfortable.

Maelstrop · 10/11/2018 11:08

Being really angry is not out of proportion and coffee and a fag used to be my go to in the morning to help things along. Text and ask her. I'd be sodding cross. It's selfish of her to have taken the lot.

LockedOutOfMN · 10/11/2018 11:09

YANBU! Just hope DD remembers to bring it back!

Blanchedupetitpois · 10/11/2018 11:09

Annoying, yes. Your reaction is OTT but you are caffeine deprived Grin

this is, however, a good opportunity for you to discover that Douwe Egberts is horrible coffee and explore better options!

TatianaLarina · 10/11/2018 11:10

She is naughty, but instant coffee is grim and diverticulitis patients need to avoid caffeine while their bowel is healing.

Way over the top, you would be unreasonable to be mildly irritated but to be really angry is extreme. Jeez I would hate to see what you are like if she did something really out of order

YeOldeTrout · 10/11/2018 11:11

Use this event as excuse to treat yourself to a nice coffee option? Get a cafetierre or even your own grinder, explore the world of better quality. My parents fresh ground their coffee beans every day in the '80s. Which was kind of hell given how much I hate the smell of coffee. They have a huge percolated pot daily, now.

AdoreTheBeach · 10/11/2018 11:12

Thanks all who get it. I don’t like tea but did have a cup to help the “regular” issue. Didn’t work ☹️

I would’ve gladly bought some for her to take away with her - she asked or bought more for myself. When you only have a short window for your morning routine, it’s not a nice thing. She’s old enough (20’s) to know better, she works so her own money. She drove to this place too, planning to stop for petrol before setting off so had opportunity to get what she (they) needed. I’m very angry at the selfishness of it actually.

Treat yourself to a coffee machine (one that only makes one cup at a time) and some fabulous coffee pods, and tell DD she owes you the money. Early Christmas present maybe.

I'm another one who can't function without my first coffee of the day, but instant coffee just doesn't work for me.

happypoobum · 10/11/2018 11:12

Slightly miffed, fine

Really angry = Huge overreaction.

YeOldeTrout · 10/11/2018 11:13

Tea has half the caffeine to maybe have a 2nd cup, it's only a little later than your ideal time limit.
