To be really angry my DD took my coffee on a weekend away, without asking?

I’m an early riser. I have sleep issues (wake up and can’t get back to sleep), so I follow a fairly strict sleep hygiene routine. That includes no caffeine after 10am. I also have digestion issues and diverticulitis so I need to be “regular”, which routine includes my morning coffee. I look forward to my lovely huge mug of coffee every morning. This morning, it’s gone. Extra large jar of Dow Egbert coffee is gone. Hard to miss a jar that size. My DD left last night for a weekend away with friends, renting a large self-catering house. Dare I suspect she’s the culprit? If so, AIBU to me REALLY angry with her? (FYI, looked in bin and recycling just in case accidentally broken - not there).

Does walking help with the regularity thing? Could you get out & get some exercise to, er, help things move along?

MaisyPops · 10/11/2018 11:14

It's annoying and thoughtless but it's not really angry territory.
Many people enjoy a morning coffee.

Fatasfook · 10/11/2018 11:15

Why does she still live with you?

RollerJed · 10/11/2018 11:16

Sleep hygiene is such a weird phrase. Of course I've heard it before but it makes me think were you a dirty sleeper Confused

YABU to be so angry. And if you have to be so strict with no caffeine after 10 am (WTF Shock) you should give it up totally for the sake of your sleep hygiene

theonetowalkinthesun · 10/11/2018 11:16

I wouldn't be 'really angry' per se, but I would think 'that is so selfish' because taking the whole jar of coffee (why couldn't she just decant some out????) and leaving the house with none is selfish!

mummmy2017 · 10/11/2018 11:18

Say. Nothing...
Seven weeks to xmas...
Coffee bomb her with gifts...
You can have so much fun with this...

EdisonLightBulb · 10/11/2018 11:18

I would be very cross OP, it's not the coffee it's the act of taking something that isn't hers to share with her friends and when she had the opportunity to buy some along the way if that was to be her contribution for the weekend.

I would give her a roasting (no pun intended)!

Flowerpot2005 · 10/11/2018 11:18

I would be angry too because it's clearly an important part of the day for you & you look forward to / enjoy it. It is selfish of DD especially as she was stopping off for petrol.

amusedbush · 10/11/2018 11:19

Instant coffee 🤮

I have nothing else to add.

Bellabonkers · 10/11/2018 11:19

It sounds like she has upset your morning routine which is very rigid.
But try to put it into perspective...its a jar of coffee which is easily replaced.

Firmly ask her not to do it again but please don't create a huge drama over it.
Life is really too short. Pop to the shops. Get a new jar and try to relax and enjoy your weekend Smile

legolimb · 10/11/2018 11:21

I would be angry too. She should have just taken some out of the jar - no need to nick off with it all.

On the other hand I don't like instant coffee so wouldn't only be upset if anyone took my decent stuff. (luckily I keep lots in and spare cafetieres, moka coffee pots just in case :) )

NotANotMan · 10/11/2018 11:22

I'd be angry too. How selfish and rude of her.

MrsStrowman · 10/11/2018 11:23

YABU dowe Egberts instant is definitely not lovely coffee, take this as an opportunity to treat yourself to something nice, and then ask your daughter for the money...

Nenic · 10/11/2018 11:26

I knew the coffee snobs would be out in force. Personally, I think ‘real’ coffee is disgusting

Olderbyaminute · 10/11/2018 11:27

Your daughter should’ve bought her own or brought some of the coffee with her in a small container leaving you the majority of it

rjay123 · 10/11/2018 11:27

Have you text and asked her why/if she took it?

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 10/11/2018 11:28

I'd be annoyed. It's not just about the coffee, it's that she's deliberately done something quite selfish. You're entitled to expect better from a grown woman in her 20s imo.

Juells · 10/11/2018 11:31

I hate tea, have never willingly swallowed a mouthful [yuck] I'd be pretty upset if I woke to no coffee in the house Angry

Treat yourself to a coffee machine (one that only makes one cup at a time) and some fabulous coffee pods, and tell DD she owes you the money.
Oh please don't :( I hate to think what all those coffee pods are doing to the environment. I have a DeLonghi coffee machine, it makes lovely coffee from grounds, though you can use pods in it if you want.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 10/11/2018 11:33

I really judge people who use coffee pods.

If you think they’re being recycled, they are most likely just filling up a landfill.

Decent ground and a cafetière is all you need.

AdoreTheBeach · 10/11/2018 11:33

Should read “if she asked”, which of course she didn’t.

OP posts:
NoSquirrels · 10/11/2018 11:33

I’d have texted her as soon as I realised, with an angry reaction, and checking she hadn’t taken anything else. She lives with you and is presumably very aware of your routine and needs. It’s selfish regardless.

I’d expect a sincere apology and I’d be asking for the money I’d spent on replacing it reimbursed.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 10/11/2018 11:39

A theft resulting in coffee deprivation??? Shock I say bring back hanging Grin

DarlingNikita · 10/11/2018 11:41

That's very ill-mannered and thoughtless of her. And she's a grown adult.

I'd let her know exactly how pissed off I was.

Bloomini · 10/11/2018 11:41

Jeez maybe the OP prefers instant coffee.

How patronising to suggest she saves up to treat herself to something 'better'.

Keyboard coffee "snobs" are the worst and I suspect likely wouldn't know their single estates from a blend anywayGrin

speakout · 10/11/2018 11:45

I would be annoyed, yes, really angry - no.

In the grand scheme of things it's not a biggie.

I like a morning coffee too, I keep spare supplies and there is different types of coffee in the house- 2 in 1 instant ( DD likes these) decaff, pods for the machine, instant, instant decaff, ground coffee for the cafetiere.

We are never without some type of coffee.
