To make DD go to school in socks tomorrow (she says she will freeze and be miserable)

She’s not 5 years old-she’s 12
She and her siblings have a few chores they have to do- you’d think I force her up chimneys the way she moans.

Anyway

She has 5 school shirts, 7 pairs of tights etc

Almost every other night or actually in the morning she will come in moaning about where are my tights/PE shorts/school shirts

She’s been known to shove clean ironed stuff in her dirty clothes hamper to avoid putting it away-

Yet again she’s come bolting down the stairs at almost 11pm asking where her tights are and can I put a wash on with ONE pair of tights ????

I’ve refused and told her she can wear socks and she’s raging.

Her dad has said I’m being too hard on her- I asked him to wash her tights by hand (he’s gone strangely silent and appears to be nowhere near a sink and a bottle of Persil)

I’m not being reasonable am I?

If she’s cold it might be the bolt up her bum she needs to look after her stuff

Tell the daft bugger I was washing and ironing my dad's work clothes for pocket money at her age.

She doesn't put them in the wash they don't get washed socks it is.

Presumably the routine if getting undressed and putting clothes I'm certain places has been the same her whole life so far?

She can hand wash them herself in the sink, then hang them up overnight (in the airing cupboard if you have one) and providing they’re the Lycra type they’ll be dry by morning. Or she can rewear. Or she can go to school in her socks. Her choice.

She wants a clean pair of tights for the morning, she can wash them by hand, roll them in a towel to squeeze out the water, then hang them in the bathroom overnight. If they're not dry by morning, tough.

I dont wash anything near the basket. It has to be in it.

My 8 year old would be the same I would make her wear socks if she can’t put her things away once washed it’s her own fault,

At 12 she is plenty old enough to do her own washing. Show her how and never wash another thing for her (but don't ever criticise how she does it)

She won’t rewear a pair- she’s really funny about hygiene- if she had to wash her own clothes I think she’d relax a little

Doesn’t help that her dad has told me I’m being really harsh

At 12, she should easily be able to figure out handwashing a pair of tights and then hanging them up, without asking you for help

I started taking my turn at doing the laundry around 10, using the machine
and the occasional item I easily washed by hand,
I had observed in earlier years what my parents did, so no help needed

Your DP is free to wash them, if he thinks your DD doing so, breaks her human rights

Yes BigChoc I mentioned this twice and he seemed to wander off to sit on his ass and surf the web no doubt.

There’s really not much to figure out about handwashing 1 pair of tights so I expect they’ll manage. I’d go sit on MY ass if I were you, OP!
