To wonder why so many people have joined this so called "hinch army"

My facebook seems to have been taken over by these people from my school days. I had no clue what it all was until I saw someone tag a women called mrs hinch on instagram and from what I can tell its just a woman who doesn't work who is massively obsessed with cleaning her house, calls her dusters and sponges by actual names and talks too much throwing in a a "maaaaatteee". every now and then. (which is really irritating)

These people actually watch her clean her home and then refer to themselves as the hinch army.

Just wondered if I am I missing something here or is this a ridiculous amount of effort from her to film herself cleaning every surface in her home, and a massive waste of time for those who tune in daily to see what she's cleaning today, then rush out and buy the same products, just clean your own homes instead of watching this woman do hers.

If I clean my house Ill say I cleaned my house. These people say they've just hinched their homes Hmm

She is entertaining in my opinion and I have cleaned more since watching her instagram. Maybe others feel the same.

Skyejuly · 21/09/2018 09:55

Its so weird. Its like 'proof' they clean or are part of something. Some sort of online validation.

I just find it odd that adults get caught up in this kind of thing.

misskatamari · 21/09/2018 09:58

There's a massive thread about it running at the moment - some of it is a bit bonkers! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3345891-mrs-hinch

It’s a hobby. For her and the “army”. Nothing more. Just like those people who can’t run somewhere without logging it in an app and publishing it on FB.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 21/09/2018 10:02

Just to clarify. It’s not my hobby! Grin

ResistanceIsNecessary · 21/09/2018 10:23

There's a big thread on here at the moment as a PP mentioned. I skimmed through. A load of her supporters joined MN specifically to have a bunfight about various criticisms that had been levelled at her by MNers on the thread.

In fairness there was some unpleasantness on there - comments about someone's accent and home decor which were very personal and came across as bitchy and snobby. However there were also some valid comments about the safety aspects of mixing certain cleaning chemicals. Also the concept of "hauls", where people seem to go out and bulk buy vast quantities of things simply for the pleasure of saying they have lots of stuff, seems bonkers, wasteful and environmentally questionable!

However if she motivates and inspires people to clean and tidy and feel better about their homes, then I don't see that it's a bad thing. FYI she does work - she's a hairdresser.

ResistanceIsNecessary · 21/09/2018 10:24

PS. I don't watch her because I don't "do" Instagram. I also CBA to spend all of my time cleaning Grin

Steelesauce · 21/09/2018 10:25

Mrs Hinch was great until she didn't ask her 'army' to lay off Gemma (the organised mum). Now I've unfollowed her.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 21/09/2018 10:30

Oh so there is “rivalry” between hinchers and TOMMers? How adult. Hmm

Skyejuly · 21/09/2018 10:32

Ive just seem someone has a story of how to fold boxers. Wtf

CaptainCorrigan · 21/09/2018 10:33

Not a rivalry, TOMM made a few videos about safety a few weeks back and hinchers took it that is was directed at Hinch and have been abusing her since

buddahbelly · 21/09/2018 10:34

ifiwasabird mine neither. I do whats necessary but wouldn't think to then take pictures of my clean floors and post them on instagram and tag in mrs inch.

Im probably old though and this is what happens these days!

I dont get the haul think though, And I do think she's rather wasteful in that she uses quite a lot of chemicals when one would suffice.

Because they are saddos who need to get a life?

Steelesauce · 21/09/2018 10:34

There was a drama about mixing chemicals and her 'army' has made Gemmas life hell for the past few weeks, Gemma reached out to Sophie to ask her fans to stop but she ignored her.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 21/09/2018 10:38

How ridiculous! It feels like something from the days when everyone had to be out scrubbing their front step by 8am or the whole street would be calling you a slattern Grin

OkMaybeNot · 21/09/2018 10:39

Not a rivalry, no.

Gemma, who started The Organised Mum Method regularly blogs about chemical safety and specifically not mixing chemicals (it can literally kill you) and one of these PSAs came about when this Hinch woman was raking in followers on Instagram. Her 'army', as she calls them, spent weeks messaging Gemma really awful, abusive messages - on all platforms of social media - because they took it as a slight against their leader. In reality it had nothing to do with her.

Gemma was really upset. She started the blog as a way to share her method that really helped her during a period of bad mental health, everything she does is for everyone else, not for followers or money. She didn't deserve it, it was horrible.

She publicly appealed to Hinch to call off her dogs, basically, because it was unecessary and hurtful. And she didn't.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 21/09/2018 10:40

Ahh thanks ok.

Tsk tsk hinch! Get your troops in line! Grin

Amaaaazing · 21/09/2018 10:45

Lord that is awful! Like school ground bullying! So not only does Hinch refuse to follow or mention safety guidelines, she also lets others who do get abuse?! I am unfollowing her. I was never a massive fan but I do love zoflora now purely because of the smell. So thanks Mrs Hinch for that!
I did know how to clean a house before watching her though. Won’t be watching anymore.

Amaaaazing · 21/09/2018 10:46

I will watch the organised mum now in protest Grin

yorkiepudsnutellaandicecream · 21/09/2018 10:51

I wouldn't call myself part of the "Hinch Army" but I do like watching her videos and have recommended them to friends and family maybe lacking motivation when it comes to cleaning like I do. Along with The Organised Mum, I think she's great too.

There's something brainwashing about watching them cleaning their kitchen sinks and and the insides of their washing machines that makes me get up and do mine too, and if I'm perfectly honest after watching their Instagram videos daily, my house has never been cleaner. Haha! Who would have thought.

I love seeing recommendations of cleaning products they use especially. There's definitely been an increase on my weekly shop spend due to this however!

xxx

PavlovaFaith · 21/09/2018 11:09

Just in Hinch's defence - she does work. Or at least did when I last checked. With her new millions rolling in perhaps she's retired Grin.

Rikalaily · 21/09/2018 11:21

I don't understand it. It's no effort at all to keep your house spotless when you have no kids and are out all day. I might take a look when she has a couple of toddlers running around the place all day and it still looks like a palace.

AgathaMystery · 21/09/2018 11:24

The sheer amount of chemicals and wipes used are mind boggling. I'm no eco warrior but I can't use wipes any more - they are so bad for the environment.

As for spraying upholstery with lenor and whatnot. The house must be noxious and unsafe, surely?

teaandtoast · 21/09/2018 11:29

What's a PSA? Thanks.

leeloo1 · 21/09/2018 11:41

Psa - public service announcement?
