To wonder why so many people have joined this so called "hinch army"

My facebook seems to have been taken over by these people from my school days. I had no clue what it all was until I saw someone tag a women called mrs hinch on instagram and from what I can tell its just a woman who doesn't work who is massively obsessed with cleaning her house, calls her dusters and sponges by actual names and talks too much throwing in a a "maaaaatteee". every now and then. (which is really irritating)

These people actually watch her clean her home and then refer to themselves as the hinch army.

Just wondered if I am I missing something here or is this a ridiculous amount of effort from her to film herself cleaning every surface in her home, and a massive waste of time for those who tune in daily to see what she's cleaning today, then rush out and buy the same products, just clean your own homes instead of watching this woman do hers.

If I clean my house Ill say I cleaned my house. These people say they've just hinched their homes Hmm

One could challenge those trademarks.

Hincharmy could well be argued to be relayed to gold medal winning superstar hockey player Maddie Hinch. Who's been around a lot longer. She's had her army of followers for years.....

Satchez · 21/09/2018 17:11

I don’t follow her, but I follow other cleaning people, just the same way I follow cooking, exercise, organising etc yourubers and instagrammers, just for a bit of inspiration and motivation.

Zombae · 21/09/2018 17:13

OK Magazine did her dirty. Smh.

I find it a sad that there’s flocks of women proving their worth by how well and intensely they can clean. That’s with ‘well’ morphing into obsessively and ‘intensely’ mean multiple products.

There’s a photo on her Instagram that could be an artistic interpretation entitled ‘transfer of a woman, the chattel’ (i know this comment will push the army over the edge. I’m sorry about that, but publicly displayed art is open to individual interpretation.)

Zombae · 21/09/2018 17:29

@MissMarplesKnitting I think she may release her own Mrs Hinch cleaning products and sell merchandise, because her name trademark is in the cleaning products category and the #mrshinch one is under clothing category.

MissMarplesKnitting · 21/09/2018 17:30

Ugh.

That's seriously #naff.

Though predictable.

rainbowsandsmiles · 21/09/2018 17:33

I think a lot of people would want to make a bit of extra cash if they suddenly found their account to be so well known and had a sudden huge social media presence. I know I would, anyway.

DigitalGhost · 21/09/2018 17:35

Her house is lovely, clean & totally devoid of colour... It's so weird.

Nutkins24 · 21/09/2018 17:38

Urrgh. There always seems to be a certain % of the population that have to mount themselves into an ‘army’ at every available opportunity. It’s all a bit medieval.

YeTalkShiteHen · 21/09/2018 17:49

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan long story short, OCD (germ phobic rather than pretty house), and a need for things to be in their place (autism) which is kind of not conducive to 3 messy bairns with sticky hands Grin it’s better than it was, this is me AFTER CBT, before that I’d be ironing and cleaning until 2 or 3am.

I know it sounds pathetic, but it’s so much part of me now that I don’t know how to change it. If it gets too bad I get overwhelmed and can’t do anything. Like earlier.

venndiagram · 21/09/2018 18:13

I'm slightly curious as to how many of the "hincharmy" were also in "charliesarmy" and other similar social media campaigns.

To be fair to Mrs Hinch, she seems like a nice enough person, and I have had some good tips from her Facebook group. Her army do her no favours though. The pile on of anyone who dares to question or query is absolute bullying.

Amongst the frothing and batshittery, there are some really useful bits and bobs - nothing groundbreaking but useful to know. People need to engage brain before blindly following though, so far in the Facebook group in the last 24hours someone has ruined their floor using an inappropriate cleaner, and someone else nearly hospitalised due to reaction to chemicals. Thankfully there's a sane strand of people giving helpful advice too.

Oh i get ya!! It doesn’t sound pathetic at all. I have OCD too. But I hoard. I can’t explain in a way anyone will understand why I need a cupboard full of glass jars I will never use or why there are 17 sets of curtains in my spare room. (There are not 17 windows in my spare room Wink)

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 21/09/2018 18:18

Mine is always triggered by financial worries.

YeTalkShiteHen · 21/09/2018 18:44

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan I get it, I’m the total opposite but I get the fear behind it. People don’t realise how debilitating it is!

I have routines and if they’re knocked off I have to start all over again (not sure if that’s OCD or autism or both to be fair) because I get muddled.

It’s feckin exhausting!

So I get why you need the jars and the curtains.

YeTalkShiteHen · 21/09/2018 18:46

DS1 contracted sepsis as a tiny baby after gastroenteritis (he caught it from XHs DD before we knew she had it!) and a nurse said “oh we never got tummy bugs because my Mum kept the house clean.”

I wish I could find her and tell her that that one throwaway comment has affected my life in ways she couldn’t imagine 10 years later. I’m terrified of germs. Especially germs getting to my kids. I work very hard to make sure they’re not affected by it. But my coping mechanism is to minimise germs at home, a safe place.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 21/09/2018 18:49

Sad yep. Silly comments that people don’t even remember saying. Got those. Exhausting is right.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 21/09/2018 18:51

I do have cleaning routines too that have to be done a certain way but not sure if that is OCD or just because.... umm I don’t know why really Grin I just have to do them that way.

Zombae · 21/09/2018 18:51

That nurse was ignorant. My home is very very clean, but my child has managed to get a stomach bug now and then.

I understand how hard it is, an old friend of mine had OCD and washed her hands so much they were raw. It prevented her from doing a lot of things. @YeTalkShiteHen have you tried CBT for it?

Zombae · 21/09/2018 18:53

Sorry @YeTalk - I see you had CBT. I'm sorry that she made that comment and how it affected you.

Beargoesgrr · 21/09/2018 18:55

It’s so fucking weird.

In real life for calling your sponge Mavis and your bog cleaner Mark and your mop Betty you’d be sectioned. Nope instead she’s got an “army” talking about how she’s saved their mental health. I’m literally waiting for “Dr Hinch “ to start trending.

Yes I’m a grumpy fucker but it’s all a bit sad.

rainbowsandsmiles · 21/09/2018 18:59

It's putting a bit of fun into it. Just having a bit of a laugh with it. Seeing as cleaning is literally the dullest chore there is I'm all for someone making me want to do it instead of ignoring it like I usually do

YeTalkShiteHen · 21/09/2018 19:17

Zombae thanks Smile I have scars on my hands from scrubbing them with raw bleach (I was really ill mentally at the time, just after DS1 got out of hospital) Sad

I know my way of doing it now sounds properly batshit but compared to how I was 10 years ago I’m positively lazy so I’m happy to have it relatively under control if that makes any sense at all.

I love that we all have differing ways and routines in the last wee bit of this thread, but totally understand where the others are coming from.

I like the solidarity!

nicebitofquiche · 22/09/2018 06:12

I follow Mrs Hinch on instagram and I think she's funny and I find the videos strangely relaxing. I haven't bought a Hinch haul, although I have bought a couple of things she's mentioned and found them to be useful. I also don't mix lots of cleaning products because I know it's dangerous and unnecessary. I think some of her house is lovely, other parts of it are not to my taste. I'm on the fb group and have got some useful tips for getting stains out of things. The fb group is like all large fb groups, it has all sorts of people in it. Some of the Mrs Hinch followers seem pretty vicious but so do some of the people criticising them. Someone made a nasty comment on the other Mrs Hinch thread about some of the FB group being barely literate. If you don't like Mrs Hinch fine, don't read or follow anything about her. If you do like her great but don't get upset about anyone who doesn't like her because it really doesn't matter.

Skyejuly · 22/09/2018 10:46

Clean doesnt mean people wont get ill. Especially school age kids!

YeTalkShiteHen · 22/09/2018 10:54

Skyejuly thanks for that. I do realise it’s irrational. It doesn’t mean I can help it. Confused
