Wedding v missing cat - WWYD?

Twotailed · 23/08/2018 11:36

My best friend is getting married on Saturday in a town about an hour away and I am supposed to be travelling through this afternoon to help her with venue set up. However, my beloved cat has gone missing (totally out of character, very very worried). WIBU to not go until this evening or even tomorrow, so I can stay here to look for my cat?

I am MOH so I feel like it’s terrible if I don’t go today. I’m not the only person helping and I don’t think they strictly need me, but I know my friend is very excited for me to arrive and wants me there.

WWYD?

In situations like this, I tend to ask myself what would Audrey Hepburn have done?

Somehow (as I'm in the office and don't fancy trying to explain myself) I managed not to guffaw out loud at this!

WWAD is now my life's mantra for all dilemmas.

CheerwellMaker · 23/08/2018 12:11

I would have skipped my own wedding if my cat went missing, let alone someone else’s! I would be too stressed to enjoy myself.

daffodillament · 23/08/2018 12:11

rosewhitetips Rubbish. I would be well pissed off a wedding guest I was counted on sacked me off for a bloody cat !

daffodillament · 23/08/2018 12:13
  • counting not counted. Sorry.
diddl · 23/08/2018 12:14

I'd look for the cat-to set my mind at rest that I had done something-& go later, especially if she's not relying on you.

daffodillament · 23/08/2018 12:14

Aaaarrgghh.. Off to find my bloody glasses. Typo's all over the place. Blush I blame the cat !

Twotailed · 23/08/2018 12:15

Sorry but she isn’t a bloody cat - she’s my absolutely adored pet, and for her to be missing (given how shy she is and how close she always stays to home) means she must be hurt, frightened, trapped or dead. I won’t miss the wedding but I think my mind is made up that I will stay and look for her today and leave tomorrow for the wedding.

I am reassured from this thread that my friend will probably be understanding! At least I hope so. She’s not a bridezilla and she loves animals so 🤞🏻

Can I just clarify something OP please? What type of cat is it exactly? If it’s a lion or a tiger you do know you have both a legal and a moral obligation to call the police?

LucheroTena · 23/08/2018 12:17

Normally they’re stuck somewhere.

If it were my wedding I would be fine with you arriving late or even missing the wedding. I’d feel terrible about having someone there who was needed elsewhere.

ArmySal · 23/08/2018 12:18

Aww hope you find her soon OP, I'd understand if I was your friend, I'm sure she will too.

Curtainshopping · 23/08/2018 12:18

Key questions are:

Will the bride understand?
What can you realistically do to find the cat between now and when your husband gets home?

GreyHare · 23/08/2018 12:19

I would stay, I think you can tell a lot about a person from the replies on this thread, but you sound lovely OP, and you clearly care a lot about your puss cat so stay home and look for her, I hope she comes home soon.

CallipygousElephant · 23/08/2018 12:21

Any friend worth their salt would surely understand! Given you have no intention of missing the wedding I don't think you are even slightly U to go later than originally planned.

daffodill You are charming aren't you. Pets are family.

Please update us OP, fingers crossed you find her quickly!

MrMeSeeks · 23/08/2018 12:21

My pets take priority.
Ours turned out to be very injured.
I’d skip anything to look for my pets.

theliverpoolone · 23/08/2018 12:21

Good decision, OP. I think some people replied as if you'd said you were intending to miss the actual wedding! No way would I be setting off today if one of my cats went missing. I do hope she is found safe, soon.

Nesssie · 23/08/2018 12:22

daffodillament obviously not a cat owner...

I would ring her and say how worried you are and would like to spend a bit of time looking for her, until your husband/in laws etc can get there to take over.

Leave her litter tray outside with a bed/blanket/hide that she can shelter in.

Twotailed · 23/08/2018 12:22

Thank you all so much for being so kind - I will definitely keep you updated

Its not a ‘bloody cat’ it’s a beloved pet.
If someone was annoyed then i’d happily not speak to them again.

Hope you find her op, don’t give up hope!

daffodillament · 23/08/2018 12:28

Awwww. Sorry Op. I do hope you find your cat. I do actually have a moggy myself but he often buggers off, so occasionally if I go away for the weekend I'll leave a big bowl of food and water out and he's as happy as larry.

DollyWilde · 23/08/2018 12:31

Oh you poor thing. When ours goes missing it's the worst.

I wouldn't of course miss the wedding but I would stay back to look. If your friends isn't relying on you to bring something over today then I would hope she'd understand.

Hope DCat turns up very soon and is very apologetic x

DollyWilde · 23/08/2018 12:32

I guess the thing is, daffodil, everyone's cat is different and what's usual behaviour for yours isn't for someone else's. Our boy is never out overnight so when he's not home by bedtime I'm inconsolable. MIL lives in the middle of nowhere and the catflap is open all hours, she can go days without spotting the more adventurous of her cats before she starts to worry, he's semi-ferral Smile

MidnightAura · 23/08/2018 12:34

I hope your find her OP. We had a cat that disappeared for three days and waltzed in fine but I was worried sick as she had never done that.

When I got married I told one of my bridesmaids to skip out to go home and check on her dogs who wasn’t well.

Strawberrybelly · 23/08/2018 12:35

I hope she turns up soon.

nuttyknitter · 23/08/2018 12:37

Cats either turn up or they don't. One of ours went missing for nearly two weeks once - upsetting, but I wasn't going to put the rest of my life on hold for that long.
