Wedding v missing cat - WWYD?

Twotailed · 23/08/2018 11:36

My best friend is getting married on Saturday in a town about an hour away and I am supposed to be travelling through this afternoon to help her with venue set up. However, my beloved cat has gone missing (totally out of character, very very worried). WIBU to not go until this evening or even tomorrow, so I can stay here to look for my cat?

I am MOH so I feel like it’s terrible if I don’t go today. I’m not the only person helping and I don’t think they strictly need me, but I know my friend is very excited for me to arrive and wants me there.

WWYD?

Great news....but as someone who loves cats myself they would eat your face if you died. Always remember that ...Grin

Yay, great news OP :)

So glad she's back. I've had homebody cats disappear, then turn up 3 weeks later skinny - most probably shut in a garage.

One cat went missing and was next door in an empty house (decorators had let her in accidentally). I spotted her on the Friday evening of a BH weekend after over a week. It was military housing so DH called the guard room and explained. They suggested she could wait another 3-4 days. DH relayed that to me. They heard my cussing rant about them being shut away for a few days with no food and probably drinking out of a toilet and see how they liked it, and came to help. The decorators had left an upstairs window open a crack and we utilised a ladder and an old-fashioned coat hanger to get in. Grin

I found a missing cat in an empty property (sitting in a window), and carefully lowered water and food through the letterbox for the Sat night/ Sunday. On the Sunday evening bumped into a lady who was looking for her missing cat and took her back to the house. She was going to call the estate agent for the keys to get kitty out, so that saved me a job.

bangourvillage If I was dead and my cat trapped in with me I wouldn't mins being eaten a bit. Sort of like organ donation, I don't need it and someone else does...

I’ve never been keen on Princess Michael of Kent, but changed my mind when I read that she left the wedding reception of William and Kate early because her cat was missing. Apparently found later shut in a cupboard at Kensington Palace.

I love a happy cat-comes-home ending

I was sooooooo pleased to hear your furry overlord has been found safe and sound. You do realise everything is all your fault and she will make you pay and pay and pay Smile Flowers

Nikephorus · 24/08/2018 08:07

Well chuffed there's a happy ending!

Hurrah, I'm glad she came back.

Whereismumhiding2 · 24/08/2018 09:27

Yeay!! Return of the missing cat! Good news all around. Great that your NDN spotted her. Does sound like Grumpy Ginger Tom might have scared her away.

I'm still chuckling at @UrsulaPandress's
Cats are evil bastards. Yours will have planned this meticulously.
Grin

And the other funny PPs!

I have four cats. 3 of mine take it in turns to go occasionally missing for a day or so, a) if they see any form of packing going on with suitcases (or they climb inside) b) if the hoover looked at them c) if they see cat basket in hallway which means vet trip imminent d) if I have a course of very important medicine to give them.

I've done all the leafletting neighbours etc when they've been gone more than 24 hours, but have spotted my cats >6 streets away either side so we're talking 400+ houses... (We still do it).. local FB groups are a lifeline.

So do my cats plan this?

Absolutely.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 24/08/2018 10:21

YAY !
Fantastic news OP, enjoy the wedding.🐈

ADastardlyThing · 24/08/2018 10:26

Deliberately looked for this thread this morning to see if puss had returned, so pleased op. One of my cats went missing for 6 months and strolled back in the open door in the summer like "bitch I'm back where's my dinner" really casual, I was crying and hugging her and she just had this benign indifferent look on her face. Cowbag!

Lweji · 24/08/2018 10:30

I hadn't posted before, but, yay, wedding back on and cat safely back home. Very pleased. :)

LuluJakey1 · 24/08/2018 13:46

Our cats are very welcome to eat my face if I die and they need food. I would consider it my last act of care for them. Grin

Yeah, I feel the same way, except at 3am when one or more of mine decide they can't wait until I'm actually dead and want to get started right away!

Great news that kitty is safely back home OP!

Samcro · 24/08/2018 16:29

so glad she is back.
didnt post as had only a sad story.
really pleased

BloodyDisgrace · 24/08/2018 17:03

Is MOH a mother of husband? Sorry, I'm new here.

I know cats most often than not come back after a good long bender. But I'd be worried sick if it were mine, so I'd phone, explain and bail out of helping in the knowledge that there are other people around. Whose cats are all ok :)

Good luck with the puss! Hope he/she is back safely.

User12879923378 · 24/08/2018 17:12

Hurray for her return!

For future reference, I would have gone. Not because I didn't love the cat to bits but because I have looked for too many cats and dogs in my time Grin and ime cats always either turn up on their own or are spotted by someone else. I don't know why, they just do.

Dogs are much easier to find (more conspicuous as humanless dogs are noticeable, tend to go in whatever direction they are usually walked, will be recognised by neighbours who have seen said dog with you), also are potentially a danger in traffic so need to be nabbed in a way that a cat doesn't.

So glad she turned up! It's hideous to be worrying about a beloved pet.

SillySallySingsSongs · 24/08/2018 17:26

@BloodyDisgrace it means Maid of honour.

Bodear · 24/08/2018 18:15

Your update that she’s back has made me burst into tears on the bus. And I’m a dog person. So pleased for you.

BloodyDisgrace · 24/08/2018 18:47

SillySallySingsSongs - thank you!! And the puss is back! Hurray!

pollymere · 24/08/2018 18:55

So pleased. My chief bridesmaid lost her dog the morning of my wedding, and I didn't think she was unreasonable to just go out and search for the dog. In fact, I helped look for as long as I could before getting ready. Luckily the dog was found before the ceremony.

andypandy60 · 24/08/2018 19:30

I would stay and look for my cat!

andypandy60 · 24/08/2018 19:31

She's back, hurray! After a certain amount of cuddling and spoiling you can go with my blessing Grin

NotUmbongoUnchained · 24/08/2018 19:35

Glad your cat is home but if you were my MOH and that was your excuse I’d never speak to you again!

flippyfloppyflower · 24/08/2018 20:04

NotUmbongoUnchained well since the OP wasn't and her friend was nicer than you it's not really relevant what you would do. Most decent folk realise that a wedding isn't the end and be all so would be sympathetic and not a diva.
