to not want it to be made legal to vape on buses?

I've just seen an article on BBC where it is considered that vaping should be made legal on buses and other public transport. I am all for vaping. My partner vapes and whilst he has a phlegmy throat because of it, it's much better than smoking. He doesn't do it in the house, I'm 28 weeks pregnant and have suffered from morning sickness throughout (so may be slightly biased), but still, I hate the smell. It makes me want to vomit and when he did do it in the house it filled the room with vapour so quickly it's like being in stars in their eyes.

AIBU that we should absolutely be encouraging vaping, but there's no reason why it still can't be limited to outdoor spaces?

YANBU

CherryValance · 17/08/2018 21:21

Definitely NBU. It would be a backwards step. I can’t see it happening though surely?

Littlebelina · 17/08/2018 21:22

Yanbu. Hate the smell of lots of the flavours. Most seem to stink like the body sprays we used to wear when we were 14 before we discovered perfume!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 17/08/2018 21:23

Ugh, YANBU.

I’m the worst kind of smoker (an ex one Wink) but vaping is so gross. I don’t want to walk through your damp blueberry flavoured smoke.

Stuff like this gets right to the back of my throat. So irritating.

TheDairyQueen · 17/08/2018 21:24

YANBU. I don't care what some people say, there's a definite pong to the vapour that I find deeply unpleasant. There's someone at work who vapes in the toilets and everyone is complaining about the smell.

It's substituting one addiction for another, really. The cynic in me thinks the government would love for it to proliferate, because then they can tax fuck out of it.

Equally, when you got smokers going on about how much tax they pay, I can't help but think the NHS wouldn't be so fucked and need so much money if the various smoking-related illnesses weren't there to put so much pressure on it.

Bambamber · 17/08/2018 21:25

YANBU. And I say that as an ex smoker and ex vaper

TedAndLola · 17/08/2018 21:27

YANBU. It stinks.

Ginmakesitallok · 17/08/2018 21:27

It's not substituting one addiction for another - it's the same addiction, nicotine. There is no public health reason to ban
vaping in enclosed spaces. There is no evidence of any harm from vapour.

Jozen · 17/08/2018 21:28

YANBU.
Can imagine being in an enclosed place with several vapes on the go?
You'd be seeing Stars in your own Eyes let alone like being the show.

SlimGin · 17/08/2018 21:28

I don't understand how they've come to this backwards idea - I've not noticed a huge uproar that vapes are restricted on buses. Why buses?

BossWitch · 17/08/2018 21:31

Yeah I saw this too - hoping it doesn't happen. I find it really antisocial - it extends one person's personal space at the expense of everyone around them. I don't want to sit crammed in to a busy bus and then have someone start vaping next to me.

TTEA · 17/08/2018 21:34

I just hate the idea of sitting on a bus with a newborn and it being filled with vapour. I've sat on the top of a bus when a bunch of people have been vaping and it was absolutely full of vapour. My other half vaping in the bedroom is enough to fill it with vapour to the point it looks like the bed is on fire, and he stopped when I got pregnant so he now does it outside. It makes me feel sick.

I was on the train the other day where the conductor asked a woman to stop painting her nails because the smell was too strong and unpleasant. It may not be a public health risk however if you are paying money for a train or bus ticket you should be allowed at least to enjoy your journey. Just like if you play music on the train loudly you'll be asked to turn it off (on my train anyway!) - not a public health risk but definitely disruptive.

Completely agree

MsMaestro · 17/08/2018 21:35

Completely agree

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 17/08/2018 21:35

YADNBU. Okay some people have stopped smoking and started vaping and the general consensus is it might be better for you in the long term.

But it would still be a massive step backwards, it still stinks when someone blows a cloud of it out. The thought of being trapped on a bus with multiple vapers makes me feel ill

Disfordarkchocolate · 17/08/2018 21:36

I agree, nobody knows the long term risks yet.

DopeyDazy · 17/08/2018 21:37

completely agree I've seen cars with vapers in where it looks like they're on fire God alone knows what a few in a bus would be like. Once one starts others will quickly join in it will look like a steam room

TwistedStitch · 17/08/2018 21:39

YANBU. I'm very supportive of vaping- my DP does it and his health has improved massively since giving up smoking. But it stinks and other people shouldn't have to put up with it in enclosed spaces. Most companies don't even allow hot food on buses because of the smell!

Willofthesimpletons · 17/08/2018 21:42

Completely agree, it's bad enough unexpectedly walking through a cloud of what can be a disgustingly sweet, highly artificial smell, let alone having to endure a bus journey in an enclosed space. Christ. I don't think I could get on a bus ever again. I'm really sensitive to smells like this. Instant headache.

RedRedBluee · 17/08/2018 21:42

Yanbu it smells and makes me struggle to breathe Sad I hope they don’t do this.
I don’t want to breathe in your chemicals thanks.

swampytiggaa · 17/08/2018 21:42

I’m a non smoker. I would rather walk past a smoker on the street than a vaper because I loathe the smell of the vapes.

StoneofDestiny · 17/08/2018 21:44

Listened on radio 4 today about this. The vaping producers said you can use vaping stuff without having any steam coming out. So why do people go round with clouds of steam belching out of them?

UpstartCrow · 17/08/2018 21:44

Yanbu, I hate being caught in a cloud of vape. It stinks.

Branleuse · 17/08/2018 21:45

I think its fine. I would hope people would have some manners about it too, but i dont see the sense in treating it as if its the same as smoking, as it isnt

eurochick · 17/08/2018 21:47

Yanbu. I was horrified to see this was being suggested. It might be healthier but the vapour still smells fucking vile. It's bad enough walking behind a vaper on the street let alone in an enclosed space. It would be a huge backwards step.
