to not want it to be made legal to vape on buses?

I've just seen an article on BBC where it is considered that vaping should be made legal on buses and other public transport. I am all for vaping. My partner vapes and whilst he has a phlegmy throat because of it, it's much better than smoking. He doesn't do it in the house, I'm 28 weeks pregnant and have suffered from morning sickness throughout (so may be slightly biased), but still, I hate the smell. It makes me want to vomit and when he did do it in the house it filled the room with vapour so quickly it's like being in stars in their eyes.

AIBU that we should absolutely be encouraging vaping, but there's no reason why it still can't be limited to outdoor spaces?

the idea of vaping is to help somebody to stop smoking - not to change the method of addiction. So why make it easier to maintain such a high level of dependence instead by enabling their need? Surely it helps to loosen the nicotine addiction by making them wait a while? The number of vaping shops & market stalls has increased exponentially especially I have noticed in deprived areas -as it is being used as a cheaper substitute for cigarette rather than as a way of getting off cigarettes which I thought was the whole point of vaping.

It's because gaping is becoming a big industry, and they want to expand and grow. And allowing people to do this but not smokers will entice more people to take it up instead of smoking.

Still yanbu,

Glumglowworm · 17/08/2018 22:33

YANBU

It stinks and there are too many idiots who insist on producing obnoxiously huge clouds of smoke.

My best friend vapes and frequently has a mild fog in her bedroom from it, that’s fine that’s her choice. But I don’t want that on public transport. Imagine it in the Underground where there’s nowhere for all the obnoxious smoke to go so it just hangs there.

I could understand the argument for aeroplanes more than buses, Although I still don’t agree with it, since people spend far longer at a time on aeroplanes. But again, there’s nowhere for the clouds of vapour to go.

Both me and my friends mum find that being in the car when she vapes sets off our asthma btw. Not as bad as when she smoked, but still unpleasant. I put up with it because I love my friend. I don’t want it from a load of strangers on a bus.

vivalafrida · 17/08/2018 22:39

It bloody stinks. Keep it off buses ffs.

ExFury · 17/08/2018 22:40

If people could be trusted to have manners it would be fine. My best friend vapes and uses one that doesn’t smell and doesn’t give off a cloud. You barely notice it.

My brother in law is the polar opposite. My DD said he’s like flying on a plane through the clouds, but only if the clouds smelled of berries. And he’s twatty enough to have no consideration if it was legal.

FesteringCarbuncle · 17/08/2018 22:42

No way
Some flavours give me terrible asthma. Perfumes are bad enough without more competing odours

megletthesecond · 17/08/2018 22:45

Yanbu.
No way should they allow vaping on public transport.

TooTrueToBeGood · 17/08/2018 22:49

Says who exactly?

TTEA · 17/08/2018 22:54

Can I just state that I'm all for vaping. People can do what they want. Couldn't care less if a person vaped 2 or 200 mls a day! I just don't think it should be inflicted upon other people. A number of people have already stated that it sets off their asthma. People clearly can't stand the smell. It can irritate your eyes, can't be good for newborns, and is disliked by many people. Vape wherever you want, I just don't see the need for it in small, confined, public spaces. I have no issue with vaping when I am able to avoid the vapour myself.

This - and yes sweet perfume stink does trigger my migraine. Just because someone said it's savER than smoking doesn't mean that it's completely harmless. (Just different, unknown toxins Sad )

MoorMummy · 17/08/2018 22:58

Ex smoker ( 15 plus years),I can’t bear the smell of vape orcigarette smoke . I run most days in the city centre and my pet hate is being downwind of someone who is doing either. I’d go mad if someone did it near me on a train/bus.

I truly believe that it must be harmful to inhale chemicals , even if not nicotine and that this will come out in years to come.

Atthebottomofthesea · 17/08/2018 23:00

I'd have to get off. They irritate my lungs and start my asthma off. Annoys the fuck out of me when people go "It's just vapour, love!"

My Mum doesn't drive and so goes everywhere by bus, she also has asthma. It could turn into a nightmare for her. She can't even walk past Lush so a whole load of sweet smelling vapour is going to be no good whatsoever.

I think vapes actually encourage people to smoke them more. I see lots of people around who seemingly can't put them down.

😂

ICantBelieveIDidThis · 17/08/2018 23:08

YADNBU

Allergy to certain perfumes mean I end up wheezing after some vaper wanders past

If I were trapped on a bus with one, they would have to call an ambulance...

ginandnappies · 17/08/2018 23:10

YANBU. I used to vape by the way.

TTEA · 17/08/2018 23:11

Have we also thought about the impact this could have on people who have given up smoking AND vaping entirely as well? Imagine you had given up vaping in an effort to improve your health and you had to sit on a bus full of vapour. Not good...

Love it 😂

FlorencesHunger · 17/08/2018 23:25

Yanbu op and I vape quite happily but I'm Conscious of doing it in public and in enclosed places as it doesn't half steam up the place. People would be inconsiderate and take liberties with it I imagine.

I was in the hairdresser this week and I went to go outside to vape he insisted I could do it inside but I barely did it at all.

nononsene · 17/08/2018 23:25

YANBU, I think vaping is great for people trying to give up smoking, but it really is fucking disgusting to breathe in and should be limited to outdoors.

PickAChew · 17/08/2018 23:26

YANBU. It stinks and people often vape dope.

GoneWishing · 17/08/2018 23:27

YANBU. I vape, and even I can't stand most people's vape smell (especially the sweet fruity ones). Any strong smells are rank in an enclosed space.

tor8181 · 17/08/2018 23:30

where are you from? here in the valley of south wales it is,they have new no smoking or vaping signs on the buses for months

also no shouting, feet on seats, loud mobiles and no alcohol
all with images, sign is that big it takes up half the first window

TTEA · 17/08/2018 23:31

@PickAChew whilst I agree that that's an issue, the vaping of marijuana is something different entirely. This will likely be illegal in the UK for the foreseeable future so I guess you would be within your right, even if this 'vaping allowed on buses rule' were to be implemented, to ask the vaper to stop. It's more the issue of vaping on public transport in general that bothers me (and clearly a lot of other people!). Never come across someone vaping marijuana myself however!

TTEA · 17/08/2018 23:31

@tor8181 it's the same here (midlands, England), but the report is looking to potentially change this.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/08/2018 23:33

yanbu. I can on,y think that the tobacco industry have been lobbying certain mps. I'm very cynical about all of this. It started as a step down from smoking, now they seem to be encouraging it beyond that.
