To be pissed of with "I don't mind"

A little bit lighthearted, a little bit rant-y.

Does anyone else get pissed off with "I don't mind" answers to every single question you ask the family? What do you fancy for tea? .... I don't mind. What film shall we watch? ... I don't mind. How would you like to live your last day on earth? ... I don't mind. Seriously, a little clue as to what you fancy for dinners as I'm doing the weekly shop in Sainsburys (other supermarkets are available) would be nice, and then they moan because its the stuff stuff every time....!!! Ggrrrrr. Aannnnnd bbrrreeaaaath 😶

My husband does this with the tv and then complains when I pick something he’s not interested. Make a bloody decision or I’m picking and you can suck it up.

DH is the worst at doing this, but the first to then voice his complaints if once it’s been decided/eaten/completed, it’s something he didnt like. He says it’s because he’s a Libra, I say it’s because he’s an annoying git

If he says it now, I immediately announce “fine i’ll choose but you’re banned from passing comment”

I’m a don’t minder.
I genuinely don’t mind, but I don’t moan either... because I don’t mind.
I appreciate it’s annoying though and wished I cared a little more.

I don't mind = I'm not willing to make a decision (because I either don't care enough, don't think it's worth my time thinking about it, I'm too lazy to be bothered or I'm not willing to take responsibility for the decision)

I understand people sometimes don't mind, but maybe sometimes I don't mind either, or I just don't know what to cook for bloody dinner so need some inspiration. It is sooo frustrating

I asked my husband a while ago why he did this. He said he thought I was asking if there was something for which he had a particular preference (food, movie etc). What I actually meant was "Can you choose a meal/movie as I don't have time/don't want to think about it". So now I say what I mean so there can be no confusion and if he still doesn't choose then he gets whatever suits me. He has never been one to moan after the event though - that would be infuriating.

cmwife - I've similarly realised that when I say "what do you fancy for dinner?" I actually mean "I've been responsible for 27 breakfasts, 43 lunches and 65 dinners, it's someone else's turn to think about what we are going to eat"

DH and I will be chatting about, for instance, going out on a Sunday afternoon and I will ask him if there's anywhere he'd like to go. "I don't mind" he says, so I will then say what I'd like to do.
He then proceeds to disagree with my choice and finds any number of reasons why we shouldn't go there, and should go somewhere else instead.

Well just bloody say that's what you want to do in the first place then!

Happens all the time and really riles me.

One of DD's friends answers "I don't mind" to most questions...I think she's trying to be polite, but it's annoying when I want to find out what she'd like for lunch, would she prefer to go swimming with DD or hang out at our house, etc.

Someone has to make a decision!

Just fucking choose something. The freezer/supermarket/takeaway doesn't do 'not fussed'

I'm a don't minder! And I know it pisses people off - but, if you genuinely don't mind about something, what else should you say? (Please help me out as I am in this position often and always end up saying 'I don't mind' knowing that I am likely annoying the other person. I just don't know what else to say, if 'I don't mind' is a genuine reflection of how I feel

I don't mind "I don't mind" as an answer as long as the person genuinely doesn't mind.
Unfortunately it seems to be usually followed by a "but not that" to any suggestions. My df was especially bad on doing that for years until dm pulled him up on it every single time until he stopped it.

@sosofull you could maybe ask what the options are at least, or ask if (the other person) has a preference, then take it from there. It is so frustrating, sometimes we just don't want to make the decision anymore, or we just don't know what to cook/do/watch etc. 🙂

We are having to renovate our new house at the moment and my DH's answer to every question is 'I don't know, what do you think?'
Frustrates the hell out of me! Surely he must have some opinion on tiles colours etc???

Another one that annoys me. If I ask shall we watch a particular film I get 'If you like'. It sounds the same as 'I don't mind' when what I wanted was a definite yes or no. To me, 'If you like' means you'd rather watch something else but will deign to watch the film anyway.

YANBU!! My pet hate is people who can't make decisions. Is it a British thing?. I'm the opposite, I'll say what I want to eat/do/go to outright, which I think some people even find a bit rude!

I have a friend who I love dearly, but I sometimes feel like our friendship is hanging by a thread because she always says "I don't mind" when you ask her where she wants to go - so I'll say, for example, what about [insert place I know she likes]? And she always says "no I don't wanna go there. What about [other place]?". I thought you said you didn't fucking mind, why not just say [other place] in the first place
