To be topless around the kids pool?

WaitrosePigeon · 17/07/2018 16:23

Backstory...

On holiday at an all inclusive hotel with kids club etc. Got some tan lines from my bikini so this afternoon took the bikini top off to try and sort them out. DH comes over and says it is inappropriate near the kids pool. I said that he had his top off so why couldn’t I. He said because I was female.

I didn’t put the bikini top back on but is it inappropriate? It’s just boobs?

For the posters slagging you off. What a load of prudes. Your body, do what you want with it. Most of those complaining haven’t got the balls to do it.

otterturk · 17/07/2018 17:13

This is so weird.

How on earth is it inappropriate? I'm currently in southern Spain and most women are toplesss

Weirdly enough the men can control themselves, the teenagers didn't seem traumatised

User183737 · 17/07/2018 17:13

Not the balls. Just self respect. These are different things Smile

Bananasinpyjamas11 · 17/07/2018 17:14

I think your husbands right. It’s not essential, and people want to relax, including embarrassed teenage boys!

DuchyDuke · 17/07/2018 17:14

Most hotels have rules about topless sunbathing near the pool. Some European hotels will kick you out without a refund for doing this.

Myheartbelongsto · 17/07/2018 17:14

Attention seeking? What utter bollocks.

I always go topless on my holidays, if you don't like it you can move. Maybe I'm offended by your fat arse hanging out of a bikini or your husbands hairy back. Shudder. Live and let live eh.

Theknacktoflying · 17/07/2018 17:15

When we went to Thailand all the fuide books and advice said that the locals did not approve of topless sunbathing, but it still happened - nothing more than just being rude rather than prudish ...

Jolonglegs · 17/07/2018 17:15

I love going topless on the beach when others are and its warm, and completely naked on nudist beaches, but I would never go toples around a pool, kids or not. I agree with NotTaken..

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 17/07/2018 17:16

Wow what twattery you come out with Myheartbelongsto.

21jumpstreet · 17/07/2018 17:16

What a treat you are myheart. What a way to empower women 🙄

mostdays · 17/07/2018 17:16

I don't care but tbh, knowing how prudish so many people are (especially when omg a child may see an adult human body!!!) I wouldn't do that. I can't be doing with the frothing that ensues.

Wherismymind · 17/07/2018 17:16

Don't be ridiculous. Plenty of women wear bikinis of all shapes and sizes and are not all airbrushed and perfect. The issue is topless at a kids pool, not topless on a beach or a regular adult pool

Yes but we're told what is under that swimsuit is dirty and must not be seen, unless your a model and then you can splash it all over the Internet. Its a body, as the man commented upthread, its the context that makes the body sexual. Most of those kids will have been fed by a pair of boobs. Will have bathed with their mum and snuggled into her boobs. Why is it so wrong for them to see some boobs sunbathing by a pool? Oh and the teenagers have probably been watching hard core porn on their phones, boobs are not going to shock them.

If op was by the general pool and kids happened to be there would it still be wrong for her to be topless?

SleepingStandingUp · 17/07/2018 17:16

,, Im not sure my 13 yo would be comfortable with that, bloody males need to get used to it but hes a kid and its awkward. He would be v embarrassed
So he gets an erection and learns sometimes or bodies betray us and next time to look for less time. I'd say he's just as likely to have a similar reaction to seeing someone a few years older than him in a bikini if he's staring

TheHulksPurplePanties · 17/07/2018 17:17

Wonen dont get turned on by mens chests,

Yeah, I find this totally unattractive...Confused

TSSDNCOP · 17/07/2018 17:17

TSS rule of life:

In the anonymity of a large beach where it’s common (eg South of France/Greece) I’d go topless whilst on my lounger.

Standing up either at the beach or at the pool I’d pop my top back on.

Tops in for everyone anywhere need a restaurant/bar.

Disclaimer: lighthearted

User183737 · 17/07/2018 17:17

I dont have a fat arse thanks. But then i wear adequately sized clothes to cover my arse, which is also a non sexual part of my body, but one which others dont want to see.
Thong bikinis are also attention seeking. No need.

Myheartbelongsto · 17/07/2018 17:17

It's not my job to empower women.

User183737 · 17/07/2018 17:18

Me too hulks. Nothing attractive there at all. [Confused]

ProbablyABitOdd · 17/07/2018 17:18

Surely it depends wher you’re staying as to whether it’s appropriate or not. Most places in Europe (exc UK) seem fine with women being topless. If you’re staying in a more conservative country or the US then it’s inappropriate. I like sunbathing topless, but I’ll only do if there are a fair amount of other women doing it and it’s in a country where it’s not an issue.

Ginger1982 · 17/07/2018 17:19

*I don't sunbathe at home.
*
Nice way to avoid the question. In a heatwave would you go topless in back garden with kids friends around?

Just pull the straps down. Unless you're going to be walking around topless in general why do your whole breasts need to be tanned?

TheHulksPurplePanties · 17/07/2018 17:20

Surely it depends wher you’re staying

I'd say that's the big thing. If it's not illegal in the country your in, whip em out.

SpiritedLondon · 17/07/2018 17:21

Oh I used to love sunbathing topless - it feels great to have no top on. Much nicer than being encased in some damp synthetic material. Sadly it has become unfashionable and I don’t really know why. Clearly the upright brigade are going to have a problems with it because children must never be exposed to the human body under these circumstances. Actually kids are very accepting of these things and learn disapproval from their parents. So they see their parents huffing and puffing about it and learn the message that the female body is somehow shameful. I think In reality I would be reluctant to go topless if I was going to be the only one. If there were other topless women in the resort in that setting then I would feel OK about it.

NotTakenUsername · 17/07/2018 17:21

TheHulksPurplePanties Neither do I. What’s your point?

Myheartbelongsto · 17/07/2018 17:21

I would absolutely go topless in my own garden.

No difference to going topless abroad.

User183737 · 17/07/2018 17:22

Why on earth would your bikini top be damp london?
