To Not Want England To Win The World Cup.

I am not English I am Welsh and rarely support English teams, but I have got caught up in the excitement of the teams achievements and until yesterday thought it would be fabulous if they did actually win the World Cup.

Then I saw the damage caused across the country but so called fans so called celebrating the quarter final win and thought God forbid they win what the hell will happen across country when the yobs celebrate that!

I also think that 'young lady' photographed jumping on an ambulance along with her companions and the ones photographed on bus shelters should be named shamed and charged with criminal damage and the same goes for anyone else who does not know how to celebrated in decent law abiding way.

This is a very disappointing reaction to what should be a happy and proud celebration

I think lots of us do Nancy certainly most welsh I know do but we banter of course. That’s part of it. Scotland too. Most people are supportive of each other there’s only a tiny minority of sour pusses and out right racists.

Been years since I have been to Scotland but I do remember they had different news reporting. As you say that may well be regional news but either way I am sure there would be plenty of match reports in Scotland had they made the semis.

I’m please England have reclaimed their St George’s flag. But can we get you a separate national anthem rather than using the same one as GB

We get half an hour after the main 6pm news CantSpell and 5 mins after 10pm. Oh and there is the awful Sky Scottish channels that are so awful I don’t think anyone watches them

If England we out and either Scotland or Wales in i would be supporting them. I could never support France or Argentina. If we go out to Croatia then I will give them my support for the final.

I think "Three Lions" is England's unofficial national anthem at the moment...

cantspell there is NO such thing as English tv (apart from regional variation). I’m talking about BBC Breakfast Telly which is broadcast to Scotland as well as England Exactly

I’m all up for a new national anthem God Save the Queen is boring, I’d happily watch the team sing vindaloo before the match

I don't agree with OP but I understand where she's coming from. And I'm not sure it's a tiny minority either. Hundreds of people were cheering as the ambulance was destroyed. And more hundreds of British people in Benidorm were threatening Police trying to control the crowds, some with children on their backs. Hundreds more rioted in Nottingham. It's not a minority, unfortunately.

I'd still like England to win. They've done well to get this far. Plus, them loosing would cause damage too. It's a shame the drunks and louts have to spoil it for the rest of the country.

Oh yes we still get plenty of Scottish football shown but I’m talking about the World Cup coverage- even though millions of English folks would support Scotland I’m betting the media wouldn’t spend as much time talking about Scotland.

Frequency I was in Spain a few years ago when they made it to the final, the initial feeling straight after the match was brilliant but it did start to take a turn after a while, we were out with our daughter who was quite little at the time so we went back to our house. In the morning there was definitely a lot of damage to windows & cars, so yes I think it does happen with other fans

I am Scottish and not the slightest bit offended by the England flag. Its the Union Flag that has been taken over by idiots.

Scotland keeps telling us that they are a separate country to England so why would they expect English telly to give the same level of reporting to a non English event?

It's the BBC, not the EBC.

Usually when I hear English people complaining that Scots don't support the English they follow it up with "I'd support Scotland if they got further than us...not that the Sweaty Socks ever qualify." Frankly you can keep that support.

I have not read all the the thread but if the English were out and the Welsh were in I would love to support the Welsh team! Why wouldn't I?
I'm English first, yes, but I'm British. I love the British culture, I celebrate our differences but I also celebrate all we have in common! We have so many more values in common, which we need to recognise. Do not let politics divide us. We must recognise our core values.
