To ring RSPCA?

Downstairs neighbour but along one has had a small dog barking away in the garden since around 5pm.

I've never known them have a dog before, never seen it before and I've lived here a while, like I said it's been there since 5pm, no shade, can't see any food or water out there either and it's been crying/barking since 5pm. Its really sad to listen to. I would go and talk to the neighbours but they're known for being horrible, aggressive and violent men and I think are the local drug dealers ( lovely, I know).

AIBU to ring the RSPCA as it's been stuck out there for 5 hours or will they not be interested as DP suggests it could be a friend visiting and they don't want the dog in the house. Am I just being a worried animal lover or does this not seem to you either?

Are they actually in the house do you know?

worriedupstairsneighbour · 07/07/2018 11:01

Okay I'll ring 101 and let them know, then I'll knock on their front door to see if they're in and if no answer I'll go and get the dog.

I'm not sure if they're in as they don't have a car so can't tell if they've gone out but no windows are open

Very worrying! Even at 5pm yesterday it was boiling hot. Shade should be accessible at all times during this weather.

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 11:04

Really well done, OP. You’re definitely going about this the right way and being very pro-active. I wish everyone was in situations like these.

rosylea · 07/07/2018 11:11

We have a bit of a crisis round here too. Neighbours parrot gone missing but neither RSPCA or Bird Society will help.

Botanicbaby · 07/07/2018 11:16

Thank you so much for caring about this poor dog OP and I hope you can get help wish more people were like you. Flowers

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/07/2018 11:20

Phone the police - in my experience the RSPCA are useless.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 07/07/2018 11:26

Please don't go and get the dog if they are dodgy people, you don't know anything about why it's there or the circumstances. You could also be accused of theft.
Leave it for police or RSPCA to deal with.
It is so sad though. That dog is the spitting image of my mum's old chihuahua who passed away last year.

HelloEllo · 07/07/2018 11:28

Any news, OP?

NancyDonahue · 07/07/2018 11:34

Are there any others nice neighbours you could get to help? If you had two stepladders, one ach side of fence you could tempt the dog to climb up and grab it.

NancyDonahue · 07/07/2018 11:34

*each

worriedupstairsneighbour · 07/07/2018 11:41

I've been on hold to 101 for 30 mins, still on hold.

Contacted a lady on Gumtree who's dog was stolen, I've just sent her the photos and it's responding to his name

OP posts:
crazycatgal · 07/07/2018 11:43

Does the lady think its her dog? Is she going to come down to see?

HelloEllo · 07/07/2018 11:44

Goodness, you're a star OP!

sunshinesupermum · 07/07/2018 11:45

What HelloEllo said

Huskylover1 · 07/07/2018 11:46

If he/she is left all day, I highly doubt it will be alive by this evening. I'm only letting my dogs out for 20 min walks. The local vets have been advising to avoid going out at all, if possible (but mine won't pee in the garden, so we have to nip out).

NancyDonahue · 07/07/2018 11:47

Bless you, op. I'm sitting here cuddling my cat, in tears about this poor dog.

Urbanbeetler · 07/07/2018 11:47

Oh gosh that would be amazing if she got him back

TrudeauGirl · 07/07/2018 11:49

I'm going to be glued to my phone all day to find out about this thread. Poor dog. He/she is lucky you saw them

needtimealone · 07/07/2018 11:49

Oh gosh, good luck op, please help him/her

ApolloandDaphne · 07/07/2018 11:51

Oh my goodness. I hope it belongs to that lady and you can go get it and return it to her.

adoggymama · 07/07/2018 11:52

@worriedupstairsneighbour I don't think it's the same dog- one has a full white nose & one a golden nose. X

silkpyjamasallday · 07/07/2018 11:57

You’re doing a good thing OP, I just wanted to warn you to check for CCTV before you go into the garden to get the dog. If you believe your neighbours are drug dealers then they will almost certainly have their own cctv to protect their stock. You don’t want to get into trouble with nasty people who know where you live. Good luck

adoggymama · 07/07/2018 12:00

@rosylea is it a grey one?? I saw a post on my Facebook about a random grey parrot with white feathers on its head that appeared? I can't find the post now :(

KitKatCHA · 07/07/2018 12:02

Be careful, you don't want any come backs if they're as dodgy as you say.
