To ring RSPCA?

Downstairs neighbour but along one has had a small dog barking away in the garden since around 5pm.

I've never known them have a dog before, never seen it before and I've lived here a while, like I said it's been there since 5pm, no shade, can't see any food or water out there either and it's been crying/barking since 5pm. Its really sad to listen to. I would go and talk to the neighbours but they're known for being horrible, aggressive and violent men and I think are the local drug dealers ( lovely, I know).

AIBU to ring the RSPCA as it's been stuck out there for 5 hours or will they not be interested as DP suggests it could be a friend visiting and they don't want the dog in the house. Am I just being a worried animal lover or does this not seem to you either?

To be honest if you don't get any joy from the RSPCA I'd call the police. If next door are drug dealers they'll be well known to them and it won't be a hard crime to detect if the dog is microchipped, as it must be by law. Handling stolen property is an offence, even if they didn't originally steal it.

From that photo on the woman's advert, she says it responds to ALFIE.

Try calling it ALFIE

See what happens.

sunshinesupermum · 07/07/2018 09:54

Call RSPCA now please

SendYouUpInFlames · 07/07/2018 09:57

Found this advertised on a missing dig site in Manchester.

Look alike?

It's called TIA. Try shouting tia..

To ring RSPCA?
NancyDonahue · 07/07/2018 10:00

Thanks for caring op. I really hope the dog gets some help soon.

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 10:07

It’s definitely getting hotter. :( This is so sad.

Scotstar · 07/07/2018 10:13

I second calling the police (101) too as you suspect the dog to be stolen

WTFnnoh · 07/07/2018 10:15

If RSPCA do not attend (which they may not) you’d be better to call your local dog warden who you can find a contact number for through your council’s website. They are much more proactive.

SendYouUpInFlames · 07/07/2018 10:18

Where abouts in Manchester are you OP?

worriedupstairsneighbour · 07/07/2018 10:25

They've said it's not against the law to keep the dog outside but I explained the dogs got no food or shelter and they said that someone would go and visit, they didn't seem that bothered.

I'll find the dog wardens number now.

worriedupstairsneighbour · 07/07/2018 10:25

@SendYouUpInFlames not far from the centre

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 10:30

Yes, try the warden and also try any local dog shelters. And the police.

Lepetitpiggy · 07/07/2018 10:30

Fucking RSPCA. Seriously I have rarely heard a good story about them if it doesn't involve celebrities or tv cameras. I hope this is solved soon. Poor little dog

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 10:32

I’d be taking matters into my own hands after speaking to the police tbh.

Here's another OP

Dog wardens direct number.

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 10:37

I’d treat it the same way as you would a dog in a car - we are told to take evidence it’s happening (this thread is your evidence) and then inform the police. So I’d be calling them up and telling them how hot it is and how long it’s been and that you will be rescuing the dog as the bloody RSPCA won’t. And maybe get a local no-kill shelter on board if you can do it quickly enough.

worriedupstairsneighbour · 07/07/2018 10:43

Ringing the dog warden now. DP is up for helping rescue him, can't bear to hear the dogs crying anymore. I'll have to go down a back lane and jump the fence into their garden

TrudeauGirl · 07/07/2018 10:45

OP you are doing such a good thing

TrudeauGirl · 07/07/2018 10:46

Please be. Careful though don't get hurt

CraftyNestUK · 07/07/2018 10:47

Good luck. Let us know what happens

sunshinesupermum · 07/07/2018 10:48

Phone the police - don't put yourself in danger

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 10:48

Yes, do tell the police first that you’re doing this (don’t ask them, tell them). Good on you both!!!

TrudeauGirl · 07/07/2018 10:50

Oh god yeah other people have a point about telling police first. I didn't even think about that.
