To ring RSPCA?

Downstairs neighbour but along one has had a small dog barking away in the garden since around 5pm.

I've never known them have a dog before, never seen it before and I've lived here a while, like I said it's been there since 5pm, no shade, can't see any food or water out there either and it's been crying/barking since 5pm. Its really sad to listen to. I would go and talk to the neighbours but they're known for being horrible, aggressive and violent men and I think are the local drug dealers ( lovely, I know).

AIBU to ring the RSPCA as it's been stuck out there for 5 hours or will they not be interested as DP suggests it could be a friend visiting and they don't want the dog in the house. Am I just being a worried animal lover or does this not seem to you either?

Ah well done you! Smile

SuburbanRhonda · 07/07/2018 13:53

Even worse if there was someone in and they still left the dog outside Sad

POPholditdown · 07/07/2018 13:56

It’s so depressing that no one would help, and that the OP is expected to not do anything herself!

There’s been a massive thing in the local media about dogs being left in hot cars, police have attended to smash windows to get them out. I don’t see why this is any different, considering length of time and lack of food and water.

I hope the dog is ok and is chipped. Well done OP.

SchrodingersCaterpillar · 07/07/2018 13:57

What horrible pricks your neighbours must be. Well done on the rescue mission, I hope the poor wee thing is alright.

WineAndTiramisu · 07/07/2018 13:58

Well done, hope there's no come back on you for this. Hopefully the vet will scan the microchip and find out who owns it

Maskedsocialworker · 07/07/2018 13:59

Well done, the dog is lucky you were there to help.Flowers

DeepfriedPizza · 07/07/2018 14:00

Did you ring the doorbell first to speak to the people?

StyleOfTheTimes · 07/07/2018 14:01

Hope the dogs ok!

bluebellforest · 07/07/2018 14:04

Aww, OP, I think I love you! ❤

SleepWarrior · 07/07/2018 14:04

As lovely as it is that you've been this dogs rescuer, I'm a bit worried that you might get in trouble for taking it? It had shade and there had been water in the Tupperware. What if they claim that you've stolen their dog? The police might be more interested in that. Hopefully I'm overreacting...

SuburbanRhonda · 07/07/2018 14:05

Did you ring the doorbell first to speak to the people?

Do you mean the people who left a small dog outside with no food or water for nearly 24 hours on the hottest day of the year, all the while ignoring its constant barking? Those people? Hmm

NancyDonahue · 07/07/2018 14:06

Op you have quite possibly saved that dog's life. Well done to you and dh.

If your neighbours do own the dog they deserve to have it taken away. Maybe if the vet calls the RSPCA about this dog they will take it more seriously.

ShmooBooMoo · 07/07/2018 14:07

Thank God - I've been worried sick about the poor thing. Does s/he seem okay? I take it no sign of a collar under all that dense fur... Hopefully, s/he's chipped.
If not chipped, you don't have to let dog warden to take the dog away but I think you do have to register with the police. I'm sure (others may know more or better) that you can keep the dog while you put the feelers out for an owner. Saying that, might be better if you could put the dog with a friend or relative as you're a bit too close to home.
I'm so delighted you had the courage to go in and get him. Well done OP and your partner!
Ps. I think you were well-justified in rescuing the dog. You did the right thing by monitoring the situation for some time first and dogs do die in these temperatures when outside for extended periods, esp small ones.

BringMeTea · 07/07/2018 14:08

Omg! Well done OP. Stay safe. Poor doggy.

Littlejayx · 07/07/2018 14:09

Timeisslippingaway · 07/07/2018 14:10

Ah OP I love you. The world needs more of this. I think I would go back home and put a few bricks through their windows.maybe followed by some dog shit.

This has brought tears to my eyes, poor little dog. Thank you OP for watching out for the dog and helping it. Please update us on how the dog is and what the vet says.
I wish there were more caring people around like you Flowers

I love this! You're an actual superhero!

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 07/07/2018 14:20

OP as good as you're intentions are I think you have been a bit silly and let your heart overrule your head. Hopefully there is a good outcome from all this and nothing falls back on you as you meant well.

rosylea · 07/07/2018 14:21

Well done OP and DP Flowers
