To ring RSPCA?

Downstairs neighbour but along one has had a small dog barking away in the garden since around 5pm.

I've never known them have a dog before, never seen it before and I've lived here a while, like I said it's been there since 5pm, no shade, can't see any food or water out there either and it's been crying/barking since 5pm. Its really sad to listen to. I would go and talk to the neighbours but they're known for being horrible, aggressive and violent men and I think are the local drug dealers ( lovely, I know).

AIBU to ring the RSPCA as it's been stuck out there for 5 hours or will they not be interested as DP suggests it could be a friend visiting and they don't want the dog in the house. Am I just being a worried animal lover or does this not seem to you either?

Poor dog. Sad

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 12:05

I wouldn’t hold much longer, OP. As someone else said, the dog won’t last through until thus evening.

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 12:07

Also be aware if the dog isn’t having any attention I is likely to respond to any word if someone is calling it, regardless of what it’s name is. I really wouldn’t jump to conclusions about its origins yet, focus on it being safe.

Faez · 07/07/2018 12:11

Agree with Writersblock2, safety first

rosylea · 07/07/2018 12:14

No adoggy it's all green so difficult to spot in the trees. Missing all week, last seen at local shops yesterday so it's survived so far. But no one knows how to catch it which is why owners were hoping for help from rspca or bird society.

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 12:14

We are now approaching the height of the day. If you aren’t getting him out in the next little while, you need to get a hose in there.

Sallystyle · 07/07/2018 12:15

Yes, dogs respond to anything said in the right tone of voice.

I hope the dog is safe now.

Fivelittleduckies · 07/07/2018 12:16

Good luck OP I hope there is a very happy ending for dog and owner

itsBritneyBeach · 07/07/2018 12:16

This poor dog Sad hoping it gets saved soon OP. You're doing a good thing by stepping in, but stay safe!

CoatsDoRoam · 07/07/2018 12:18

Oh goodness. I really hope it's a good ending here

notapizzaeater · 07/07/2018 12:23

RSPCA are rubbish unless there's publicity in it for them

Poor dog, hope you can be it some help

NancyDonahue · 07/07/2018 12:25

A hose is a good idea if you can manage it? Or chuck over some soaked towels?
There must be other neighbours to help. Most people, even those without pets, wouldn't stand back and watch an animal suffer.

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 12:27

That’s a good idea, trying to get other neighbours involved - it would also spread the responsibility. However you really need to do something ASAP or you won’t have a dog to save.

Heismyopendoor · 07/07/2018 12:32

Are they in? Be careful, especially if you think they are the local drug dealers

rosylea · 07/07/2018 12:32

Well RSPCA will certainly have publicity if the poor thing dies and it gets known they'd been alerted by OP !

worriedupstairsneighbour · 07/07/2018 13:00

101 said not to go into the garden and that I don't know it's stolen, dog warden not answering phone, dog now lying in shade I've been throwing water into the grass around him so it's cool and there's a corner of shade. DP off to Tesco to buy some dog food and then I'm going to go and get him anyway, he's looking lethargic and I'm not leaving him there despite what the police say.

Sent gumtree lady a photo and she said " where is he" so I said rough area and asked if it was definitely hers but no reply

OP posts:
Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 13:03

I’m dismayed none of the authorities give a shit. I’m glad there is some shade but it’s vwey worrying nobody has bothered with it.

Leicesterpiggott · 07/07/2018 13:03

Good work OP. Poor little dog x

NancyDonahue · 07/07/2018 13:08

I would get him out if it's safe to do so. Stolen or not, he's not being cared for. I'd be worried if your neighbours come back and notice your efforts with water and food - if he is stolen they will move him elsewhere 🙁.

I would get him to a vets for a chip check. I don't think the vet will tell you the info on the chip but will contact the owner.

SplodgeBear1988 · 07/07/2018 13:34

Have you got any ice cubes you can throw into the garden?
That would cool him/her down and help with dehydration.

Discotits · 07/07/2018 13:36

Good luck OP

ShmooBooMoo · 07/07/2018 13:39

I personally wouldn't take my eye off the dog till your DP gets back with dog food in case they move him/ her. Tell DP to get wet food... I'm sure he would anyway but just in case. Thank you for all you are doing for this little dog. I'd say it'd be a miracle if she/ he is not stolen and being desperately missed by someone Sad

HemanOrSheRa · 07/07/2018 13:44

Have you got a local lost and found pets Facebook page? They are really good for this sort of thing - there will be someone local who will come and help you.

worriedupstairsneighbour · 07/07/2018 13:48

Hi everyone,

DP came back with food, we went down the back lane and when we stuck our head over the fence the dog came running right up to us and DP jumped over with a step ladder and we've got him now.

My cat has a harness that's way too big for him but actually fits this dog so I've put that on him and we're on our way to the vet hospital now.

The neighbours back windows were open and weren't this morning so somebody is in. I felt like a secret agent! I'll keep you updated

Well done, OP! Keep us posted when you get a mo!
