To ring RSPCA?

Downstairs neighbour but along one has had a small dog barking away in the garden since around 5pm.

I've never known them have a dog before, never seen it before and I've lived here a while, like I said it's been there since 5pm, no shade, can't see any food or water out there either and it's been crying/barking since 5pm. Its really sad to listen to. I would go and talk to the neighbours but they're known for being horrible, aggressive and violent men and I think are the local drug dealers ( lovely, I know).

AIBU to ring the RSPCA as it's been stuck out there for 5 hours or will they not be interested as DP suggests it could be a friend visiting and they don't want the dog in the house. Am I just being a worried animal lover or does this not seem to you either?

Call the RSPCA. If someone sees an animal suffering and doesn't try to do something, then they are just as much to blame if the animal dies in the heat.

NancyDonahue · 07/07/2018 08:23

Time to call for help, op.

I'm wondering if it's stolen too. I guess rspca will scan It?

Tara336 · 07/07/2018 08:34

That either a chihuahua or Pomeranian but my money isn’t on chihuahua. It could well be stolen as there’s always posts on fb looking for them after they’ve disappeared. Call the RSPCA and local dog warden and be insistent they come out (I called dog warden a month ago for a dog running loose in the road he wanted me to dodge traffic to catch it or wasn’t worth him coming out apparently) maybe Dogs Trust is worth calling too? Poor little soul needs help

Tara336 · 07/07/2018 08:35
  • is on chihuahua
abbsisspartacus · 07/07/2018 08:41

Say you can't see any water and fgs do not tell them you might lower some down they will leave an animal in distress if someone else takes care of it

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 07/07/2018 08:50

My money would be on pomeranian. It's a fashionable breed that's particularly vulnerable to theft, and it's suddenly appeared. My money is on this being a stolen dog that someone is frantically looking for, and if I'm right the best way to secure that dog's welfare and reunite him with his mum is to find the actual owners. Otherwise it risks being sold to bad owners, ending up as a breeding machine in a puppy farm (if an unspayed female), or as a bait dog in dog fights.

Have you checked the websites I mentioned for lost dog ads? Dog Lost, Next Door, Facebook, Harvey's Army (Facebook)?

Have you checked to see if it's being offered for sale on Gumtree, Pets4Homes, Facebook etc? If it is I'd phone the police on the basis that the dog is almost certainly stolen property - the microchip will show the true owners

worriedupstairsneighbour · 07/07/2018 09:08

@AvocadosBeforeMortgages excellent advice thank you. I've checked Facebook and Gumtrree but will try the other groups now thank you

It’s a long haired chihuahua - I have chis. This breaks my heart. I’d guess it’s stolen. Please do something, OP. Call the RSPCA and also check on the selling sites. The dog is quite distinctive. PM some of us with the location if you want help looking on the sites.
The good news is the dog looks healthy and well cared for, but the bad news is that it’s likely not been cared for by the people in the house because they’ve done this to it.

TrudeauGirl · 07/07/2018 09:10

Please call the RSPCA. This has got me really sad and worried. :-(

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 09:12

Also note: little dogs like this don’t last as long in the heat, and at lower temperatures they will have problems. Currently my crew choose to go in the garden and sunbathe for about 10 mins then they either come back in or find a shady spot. Ten mins in the sun will also have them all running to a water bowl after. Chis like the sun but only if they have an option to move in and out of it as they wish.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 07/07/2018 09:16

Ah yes the rspca... had a rough ride in recent years. The zealots are running the show I think.

Angie169 · 07/07/2018 09:22

I think it might be a Pomeranians but it's a little bit difficult to tell from that angle I would phone the RSPCA and as anothers have suggested look on social media for lost or stolen dog in the area if you can put some water on the floor for it better still freeze some water ice cubes or if you can something bigger like bowl full. Then take the ice out of the bowl and chuck it into the back garden so it will have something cool to lick . You could even put some scraps of cooked meat / dog food in the water so when it defrost it's got something cool to eat as well

NancyDonahue · 07/07/2018 09:24

You could put that photo on your local facebook lost pets site, op. Chances are if it's been posted by the owner someone will quickly put the two together.

worriedupstairsneighbour · 07/07/2018 09:25

I'm phoning them now thanks for everyone's advice, I'm in Manchester if anybody wants to help with looking, thank you

Potential dog
www.doglost.co.uk/dog-blog.php?dogId=130658

Stolen a couple of weeks ago in Bury but it could have been passed around a bit or relocated - sounds like it's not that far from you.

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 09:31

Just had a poke on the main sites and can’t see it there.

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 09:32

Avocados - 99% sure that doesn’t look like the same dog. Similar colour but not the same face markings or bone structure.

SendYouUpInFlames · 07/07/2018 09:36

That dog looks like a Pomeranian.

They look like chiwawas but are very very fury.

Poor baby. A dog that small can NOT take the heat if being sat outside for 2 day You NEED to ring them NOW.

Good luck OP.

Try and throw some food over sneakily. Some sausages or some ham.

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 09:37

Please don’t throw salty meat over. Without water that’s asking for trouble.

SendYouUpInFlames · 07/07/2018 09:39

If they're drug dealers, and it's only just appeared I'd say it's been stolen.

It's a full grown dog.

We have pom poms and they're very attractable to people looking to steal them and sell them on quickly for breading or fighting. :(

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 09:39

As per above, different markings. Look above the eyes. Different bone structure too.

I wouldn’t worry about trying to identify it as a stolen dog - just get it safe. The RSPCA will do the rest (though it doesn’t hurt to draw their attention to the image)

TrudeauGirl · 07/07/2018 09:39

Hmm the nose area on the garden dog looks more white than the left dog. But it could be, it may just be the lighting.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 07/07/2018 09:43

I wasn't convinced in the first place but @Trudeau has a point. Still not ruling it out.

I'd still place a lot more money on this dog being stolen than England getting to the semi finals...

Writersblock2 · 07/07/2018 09:49

Have you been able to tell if it’s male or female, OP? Males generally cock a leg to pee and the females generally squat.
